I used the GoPro HERO 9 Black's TimeWarp 3.0 feature to capture a recent bike ride on the
Mt Vernon Trail in Arlington, Virginia. The Mt Vernon Trail is an 18-mile trail that stretches from George Washington's Mt Vernon Estate to Theodore Roosevelt Island (I technically ended my ride a little further north near North Rosslyn). The trail is paved, but there is a stretch starting in Alexandria that requires you to ride on ~1 mile of active roadway (low-density traffic).
I started my ride at Mt Vernon and parked at one of the parking lots near the estate. I went on a Friday morning, so parking was not an issue; however, Mt Vernon gets busy on the weekends (so plan accordingly).
The stretch of trail from Mt Vernon to Alexandria winds through woods, marshland (over wooden bridges), and neighborhoods - I also noticed that this part of the trail had a lot more pavement damaged by roots than the northern section (so be on the lookout to avoid popping a tire).
Once you get to the I-465 overpass south of Alexandria, you need to take a hard right - this will take you down a path that leads under the overpass and eventually outputs you on S Union St. Once you are on S Union St, it is a ~1-mile ride through Old Town Alexandria until the trail begins again near Alexandria's Washington Monument.
The trail then continues through Arlington, passing sites like: Ronald Reagan Washington International Airport, Gravelly Point (close of views of landing aircraft!), the Navy Merchant Marine Memorial and Theodore Roosevelt Island. The trail ends at the N Lynn St intersection - if you want to keep going, the Custis trail begins directly across the street (links the Mt Vernon Trail to the W&OD Trail).
The beginning of the video is a bit faster than I intended (I messed up the Hyperlapse settings!).
Overall, my ride came out to ~36 miles (out & back).
