How many miles is this trail, where does it start and end?
@cjones5vt
@cjones5vt 2 күн бұрын
The trail end-to-end is 14 miles; however, if you are doing the whole thing as an out-and-back ride it comes out to 28 miles. The trail starts in Falmouth and ends in Columbia.
@distler37
@distler37 2 күн бұрын
@cjones5vt thank you. I'll only have time to do the 14 miles. Where would I start then if I want to end in Columbia?
@cjones5vt
@cjones5vt 2 күн бұрын
Will you be driving yourself? Or will someone pick you up? If you start in Falmouth it is about 14 miles to Columbia (I.e. the whole trail). To do that though, you’d need someone to drop you off in Falmouth and then pick you up in Columbia. If you are driving yourself, you will just have to park in Columbia and ride 7 miles out on the trail and then 7 miles back to Columbia. 7 miles out from Columbia gets you to about where East Donegal Township Riverfront Park is.

@cjones5vt I would most likely drive myself. I plan on biking so I can probably make it round trip. I'm guessing Falmouth to Columbia is downhill? Or is most of the trail flat
@cjones5vt
@cjones5vt 2 күн бұрын
Yes, you are correct. Falmouth to Columbia is slightly downhill - only a few hundred feet of elevation change over the length of the trail so it is effectively flat. Falmouth to Columbia and back (or vice versa) will come out to ~28 miles total.

It unfortunately doesn't go out that far west! It starts in Glen Burnie and takes a southeasterly path all the way to Annapolis (does not pass through Crofton unfortunately!).

One thing I noticed you did but did not mention was when you put the film back onto the body you pushed the button over before putting it all the way into place. That helps reduce wear on the tabs and the back.

Helpful video for someone looking to load a Rollei 35 for the first time. One thing I would’ve pointed out is to make sure the film is loaded and advancing properly after loading by watching the center of the rewind crank. If loaded properly it should turn as you advance the lever just as confirmation you’re loaded correctly for a frame or two. Good habit with any manual film camera. Thanks again.

That is great! You will love it - there are dedicated trails in Rock Creek that run up to the zoo and beyond you can access any day of the week, but I definitely recommend going on Saturday or Sunday too because they close down sections of Beach Drive to cars so you can bike uninterrupted on the road without cars too!

Hi! Yes, I have a peak design tripod mount on the bottom that has worked pretty well. Just make sure if you put one on to tighten it down very well (the Hasselblad is so heavy that if it is loose it can come undone easy if things get off balance...shouldn't be an issue if you just make sure it is really tight). The little plastic beads on the side are also for a peak design sling ("Peak Design Slide Camera Strap")...to be honest, I haven't used the sling much. Normally when I shoot with the Hasselblad I either have it mounted to the tripod that I am carrying around or just have it in a small sling back for quick access with a basic wrist strap on it. The little metal things I attached to the lugs for the peak design beads I just got on Amazon and they work well (just search "Hasselblad Strap Lugs").

I see this video just for curiosity, and i view is a PERFECT explanation of how to put and remove the 120 roll, i have exactly this camera and enjoy to much taking pictures with this piece of technology, just to think a little bit on this the camera does not have a single battery and works perfectly and you also get incredible images

With these old manual film backs, there is no need to align the black arrow that is on the paper backing. On the automatic film backs, you will have to align the black arrow with the marks on the film back insert. One more point, you can load the film back while still attached to the camera if you don’t feel like messing around with the dark slide.

Exactly! If (like me) you only have 1 back for a 500 C/M, it's better to just remove the internals with the back still on. You aren't gaining anything from taking the back off completely; it only puts more wear on the camera.

Do you feel comfortable going full speed on this course?
@randallstewart1224
@randallstewart1224 10 ай бұрын
My initial reaction was another pointless "how to load your camera" video. However, it is a very well organized and presented video on the process of loading one of the fussiest 35mm cameras ever made. As a Rollei 35 owner for decades, I'm long used to its peculiarities, but you can end up wishing for three hands when first introduced. My offer: The most troublesome aspect of the loading or unloading process in my experience is reinstalling the back. The fitting tolerances are very tight, and you have to start the back in the grooves at the sides, not just slide it up from the bottom of the body. Otherwise, it tends to jam when you try to slide it up and closed. Takes a bit of practice. Overall, nicely done.

One could ride (paved portion) Rock Creek to/from Lake Needwood. To do it only one direction, one can metro train from anywhere DC metro area, red line to Shady Grove. From there, roll out the parking garage side to Redland Road. Left on roadside trail, go past Crabbs Branch intersection, next light right turn is Needwood Road. Paved trail there to Lake Needwood entrance. Right side of the lake is dirt trail, left side is park roads. Far end of the lake starts Rock Creek trail.

Hi Francis - I use the timewarp feature because even though it is quick, it still gives you a good idea of what the trail looks like while also reducing the total duration of the video (normal speed this video would be several hours and take up a lot of hard drive space/bandwidth).

Yes, good eye - I had to tweak that part of the video because this was my first time riding the trail, and I took a right when I should have taken a left. I quickly realized my mistake when I came to the roadway so I turned around and resumed the video (stitched it back together when I edited the video so that is why there is the slight gap). Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you found the video helpful! I hope your ride was nice!

Our first ascent to the top of Telescope Peak was February, 1972. We used 12 point salewa adjustable Crampons and a aluminum Ice axe. No need for rope. Very icy and windy on the final trek up to the summit. Steep slopes on both sides up the final leg. Then the proverbial signing of the climbers log on the summit. It was windy and cold. Our thermostat read minus -10 F with the wind chill factoring in. So cold that one of our polaroid cameras froze up the shutter mechanism. Great views of Death Valley Below. Subsequently through the years we climbed Telescope Peak three more times, twice in the winter and one in the spring. Back in those days the Wildrose Ranger station was still occupied, but closed during the heavy winter period. I remember also signing in at the Wildrose Station as a courtesy for the Ranger that we were heading up the road to hike up to Telescope Peak.
