Due to popular demand, by at least 1 KZfaq viewer........I have finally got round to uploading Bill McKaig's first couple of rounds in his record breaking Maximum 433 score on 15-1. Majestic stuff from Bill here. Mind you, the contestants were dropping like flies! Notice how Martin, (the Hugh Cornwell lookalike), manages to avert his gaze whenever anyone was nominating. What makes the achievement more astonishing is the difficulty of the questions in the first round, two-thirds eliminated from the game right off the bat....and Bill was just one of two to survive without injury.

I don't think it was particularly tough but was one of those unusual cases where most contestants picked the wrong seat for them. I'm sure if you shuffled it around to suit everybody then it would be 0 down, 15 to go after the first round.

This was the best quiz show in the history of broadcasting, it had a broad spectrum of both audience and contestants (who were not dependent on having a clasical education). The show should be brought back and replace Noel edmands...

there was another episode with 10-player demolition, it was from series 15 in 1995 . Its available on youtube. You can find it on Daniel Carter's channel but he has tons of episodes on there.

Nope, apparently 11 went down in an episode in about 2000.... or 2003 Im not sure.

Late 2000... Only 4 contestants survived the first round - 11 were eliminated

@@davidjatt3251 just imagine if one more had gone out, they'd have had to jump straight to the final but fill the massive amount of time out with something. Not sure what they'd have done in that situation though haha

I think when Bill returned the next series it was actually 11 down 4 to go after the first round. He again got to the final with 3 lives but on that occasion there were too many popular culture questions that didn't suit him and he lost with about 103 points.

I loved this show, always switched this on when I came home from college. Can't stand the show channel 4 are playing now. Deal or no deal has to be the most boring game show in the history of TV. Bring this back!!

@@christycooper5263 yeah they did, nowhere near as good though unfortunately. The biggest disappointment was them stretching it out to an hour long, it ruined it. The quick fire half hour format was what gave the show it's charm

@@nialldavidson197 not to mention the person who presented the show, sandi tolvig. I cant stand her she was so annoying as the host. William g Stewart was the best as he had a no nonsense attitude to the show. Sandi was just trying to be funny but was plain annoying

ooh geez, looks like Channel 4 have taken down the actual final round clip. As well as the Millennium quiz which took place later in the year (in which our pal Bill only scraped into the 2nd round)

👍🏼 It IS Channel 4’s property after all mate. And they did allow my recording of it to appear on YT for a good few years. For which I thank them. On the plus side, I do still possess my original vhs copy. (For my own enjoyment obviously🕺🏻)

I have a funny feeling they purposely made the questions in the final so easy to the point that Bill could get all 40 right only because so many were eliminated in Round 1 and they wanted the final to last all 40 questions to fill out the program.

Hmmm.....I don't know about that. The show seemed so genuine and honest, I don't think they'd have sunk that low. William g wouldn't have allowed the show's reputation to be tarnished

There was 2,265 episodes of the show during the William G Stewart era. So there's no reason to believe the feat was easy or the show was rigged.

I don't believe that at all but I do have a suspicion that in the following series they made the questions in the final more difficult for Bill so he couldn't repeat it.

People on the new version with Sandi Toksvig seem to be obsessed with nominating in the finals, you rarely see a top score even near 200 let alone 400+..

Always wondered what would have happened if more than 12 players got eliminated at the end of round 1, would they have just replayed the game?

From what I've heard, if more than 12 people were eliminated in the first round, they would have scrapped the round and started again from the top. I'm not sure how accurate this might be though.

I think Channel 4 have actually reclaimed it mate. Fair do’s I guess🤔 I mean, it is their ‘intellectual’ property after all. And, I did have a good run with nigh on 150k views. Enjoy the opening round while you can👍🏼

Ahhh that would be the day. Get Mr Stewart out of retirement or whatever he's doing now, if Nicholas Parsons can still host Just a Minute aged 90, I don't think William G Stewart would stop at 78!

@@kaitlinbilous4605 Very sad. I try watching modern 15 to 1 now and then and get so aggravated. What took ten minutes for rounds 1 and 2 back then now takes 45, no need for it to be an hour long.

Dont really watch the new version rubbish but i think there is no prize for top of the finals board, may be wrong as dont watch but if so it explains low scores as doesnt matter if you are 1st or 15th so not as much point in taking a risk. Just gotta get a score around 150-180 to be 'sure' think in the first revival series there were only 25eps? so top 15 make final so any old tactical score likely to be good for a shot at 40k. Think there are more eps in later series but compared to the 60-70 eps of original you've only gotta get a higher score than half the field.
