Unique Maximum Score on 15-1

16 жыл бұрынIn 1999 (I think?), Bill McKaig, a Presbyterian Minister from Scotland, recorded a maximum score of 433 points. He answered 40 out of 40 questions correctly. This was never beaten and is never likely to be, seeing as 15-1 vanished from our screens a few years ago. Don't ask me who the bloke with the pseudo 'Hugh Cornwell' haircut in the middle is though???? (more)

I am that 'Martin Penny'. Uploaded this ages ago and now at 150k views. Bill was a lovely fella and drank me under the table in the hotel the night before. Lifetime ambition fulfilled thanks to Swanny..., a mention on TMS. Albeit in a round about kind of way.....x

Bill sadly passed away in April 2021. One of the all-time greats of quizzing. RIP Bill

Great thing about 15/1 was that there was no pissing around asking the contestants a load of questions about themselves, they just got straight into it!!

Scoring the maximum score at this is incredible. The first and only person to do it on this quiz show. Probaly no one will ever do it again.

Daphne Fowler came close to doing the same. Just one point off having missed a question in round 2.

This is why 15-1 is the best. When the two other contestants are left standing there, William G. Stewart straight up invites them onto another show to have another go.

It's a real shame they axed Fifteen to One. It was a great no-frills general knowledge test. Modern quiz shows try too hard to be cutting edge, but this was what it was all about.

I've always considered myself a good quizzer; but for one man to have so much knowledge across the board like that..? Incredible!!!! Truly Amazing. (and after a night on the beer too? doubly amazing)

literally one of the best - certainly most underrated - UK tv moments ever. absolutely legendary. thank you Martin for posting this and preserving the legacy.

Watching this couple hours after Polish version of the show, "Ten to One", saw their first maximum scoring contestant in history. Artur Baranowski scored 803 points in the final round, answering all 40 final questions correctly by himself.

Now that is something special. We have this format ( bit changed ) in Poland since 1994 and it is called One out of ten :)

Thanks for posting Martin. My late father used to watch this a lot, and got quite a few questions right I'm proud to say. If you were going to lose to anyone I'm guessing it would have been someone like Bill. Also what a gent William G. Stewart was on air. I hope he was as genuine and decent off camera. May him and Bill rest in peace. Best wishes to you.

I remember watching this when it was aired. I was an apprentice at a newspaper so the hours were 6am till 3pm so was always home in time for it.

Yesterday, the maximum score was achieved in Polish version of this game show (1 z 10). The winner contestant, Artur Baranowski, scored 803 points, because in final round, each correct answer for the "self-nominating" question is worth 20 points!
