I watched this the night it was on TV. Remember, no internet then so we couldn't rewind and watch it again. Everyone was like, "What the hell was that? Is he magic?? How did he do that????" And, I'm terribly sorry about your mom.

In 1971, my brother bought me The Jackson 5 Greatest Hits album (I was seven at the time) and I cherish it to this day. I loved their music and had such a crush on Michael Jackson. The talent he possessed was amazing. And that he was able to evolve and grow was even more so. That moonwalking...first time seeing it, it left you speechless.

Welcome back, Emily! You know, I've only visited the USA one time but by some strange coincidence, I happened to be in the same state as Michael Jackson on the day he died (California) MJ was a controversial figure, but there can be no denying that he was an incredibly gifted performer

Fun fact: after this performance,he went backstage crying cause he was so disappointed that he didn't stand longer on his toes. A little boy came over and told him how magical he was in there and that he want to dance like him when he grows up. From that moment on he knew it wasn't bad. I subscribed and I'm looking forward to more mj reactions!!

It's not the first time it was ever done, and although everyone called it the moonwalk after Mike did it, it was a move called the back slide (kind of makes sense, huh?, lol). Here's a link to it being done 30 years before that (1955) by Bill Bailey. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r51hoc2hqa6Xk6M.html

@@Snyper1405 You know that move Michael does along with the moonwalk, but he's going in like a circle? That move is actually called the Moonwalk.

@@Snyper1405 When Michael does that floating thing going around in like a circle... that's what the moonwalk actually is. Michael was better at most things. Cooley Jaxson (Pro Dancer) says he was one of the people that taught him, I feel Michael does it better. I believe Michael saw Jeffrey Daniel (Shalamar) do it, and they hung out together getting inspiration from old movies (Fred Astair, Sammy Davis Jr., etc.). Michael wasn't happy with his first public dance, although it was awesome. He didn't set out to be better, but he ended up that way because he always added a bit of himself into it.

Sorry everyone micheal wasn't the one who invented the moonwalk, it was first done by Bill Bailey in the 1950's, just search for bill Bailey moonwalk 1950 and there it is, I'm afraid micheal had a great voice but everything he did he copied, right down to elvis's black leather suit.

Sorry to tell you, Michael did not originate the Moon Walk nor did he do it first on T.V. the Singer and Soul Train Dancer for Shalamar Adapted the Moon walk, but the story of the dance go back almost 90 years to a Black Tap Dancer in the 1930s.... In fact we were doing it in Los Angeles long before Michael did the Solo Album Off the Wall... :D
