Billy himself was only 14 years old in 1963. This song, and the whole album, is an homage to the songs of the 1960s that he remembered growing up.

A lot of the recommendations I've seen on this thread are.....let's say, those of peripheral BJ fans: but you need to be a proper Billy fan to know and respect this masterpiece. I, for one, applaud you. We Didn't Start the Fire wouldn't be in my top 40 BJ songs. Sorry people.

Truer words have never been spoken....Billy Joel had bops. Especially in the 70s/80s, growing up listening to him was just an invaluable treasure. Still listening to Mr Joel decades later, and never grows old ❤️

The song Marty sang in Back to the Future was "Johnny B Goode" by Chuck Berry. And they weren't parodying anything with the performance, that's just how concerts looked in the 50s and 60s

This was off the album "An Innocent Man"(1983) which was Billy Joel's tribute to the music of his youth: Late 50's-60's. Great tracks from start to finish!! My personal favorites are "The Stranger", "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant", "Zanzibar" and "I've Loved These Days".
@seanscanlon9067
@seanscanlon9067 4 жыл бұрын
The album this song was on was a homage to the music of Billy Joel's youth and this song was a nod to Motown and The Supremes or The Temptations, whereas Uptown Girl was to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and each other track was to a different sound from that era. The album was released in 1983 but the video was set in 1963.

That was an imitation of the old Ed Sullivan Show on CBS in the 1960's. He brought on a variety of acts. In 1964 he had The Beatles on American TV for the first time, the start of the British 'Rock & Roll' invasion. I like the way the show was recreated for this video.

Every song that people have recommended so far is amazing, but I'll throw in my favorites (that you haven't already listened to anyway.) "Downeaster Alexa", "And So It Goes", "She's Got a Way About Her", "The Stranger", "We Didn't Start the Fire" (make sure you have the lyrics handy, or that it's a lyric vid. *LOL*), "Shameless". Loving these Billy Joel reactions! He's one of my favorite musical artists and his voice is just amazing! (Still amazing too! Was fortunate enough to see him preform live a couple years back and his voice is going strong.)

Hey Billy In 1963 I was not even a thought …...it was another four years in November of 67 for me . In the 80's my mother actually took me to a Billy Joel concert and now in 2020 I still remember that concert as one of my favorites . Billy Joel is known as "The Piano Man" for great reasons . Much appreciation for this reaction here Billy .

This scene was common in the 60s and Back to the Future parodied it just like Billy Joel is doing in this video. This was made in the 80s. There are modern bands that still imitate it. You might check out the Regrettes video for "Hey Now"

He was in the hospital for brain surgery and heart surgery to follow and Norm asked how long do they say you'll be in and Rodney says " Well they tell me if everything goes well I should be out in 5 or 6 days, if everything goes badly I'll be out in 20 minutes.
