If Thomas DeLauer is an expert at anything it's stringing together a bunch of words that make him sound smart to the average person when in reality he can't even grasp the most basic nutritional concepts.

Hi Sean, I'm subbed to you both. But yeah Thomas can blind us with science and bodily chemicals we've never heard of but I always recommend real world experience. ie: viewers should experiment with their diet to find what works for them. As for me I do IF (2 meals a day max) because it helps more with my hunger/appetite rather eating little and often and I have a ton of fruit and veg each day. I've leaned out very well doing this. Proof positive that not everything you read or see it necessary for fat loss.

@@kamo7293 “Ezekiel 4:9” is a brand of bread made from a variety of sprouted grains and legumes (the name refers to a Bible verse where they talk about making bread.) One of its most noticeable quirks is that it has to be kept frozen because otherwise it goes bad within a few days. Ezekiel bread does have its benefits: the combination of grains and legumes provides a more complete protein than regular wheat flour breads, and it’s a good source of several micronutrients. As often happens though, fans crank the claims up to the extreme, like if you’re going to have bread it *must* be this kind or you should just start digging your grave now.

Nah... The physiological burn energie (food energy) is not the same as the physical (Ws=J) or the measured ones with a Bomb calorimeter. The physiological burn energie datas (the ones printed on the labels) are over 100 years old measurements, done with pigs and humans, sealed in containers etc..etc... And for carbs they could have gigantic uncertainties. If you look at the label for beens...they don't distinguish if cooked or raw...or whether you have the right bacteria to help with digestion...

It still makes sense to go by calories in vs out. If you eat the processed sandwich, your calorie count is just slightly lower. It also is negligible. People aren’t good at tracking their calories within that small of a range anyway.

I like to think of CICO as a gas tank on a car; If you drive 10 miles everyday to and from work and fill up your "gas tank" with just enough to cover that distance the "gas tank" will never go up or down but if you put in enough gas to go 15 miles a day your gas tank will eventually overflow and if you put only enough gas to go 5 miles it will eventually be empty.

The utility of seeing weight loss as a CICO is the problem not that energy isn't going to matter. We simply can't reliably calculate how much energy expenditure we are having or the EFFECTIVE energy that we are consuming. You know for example that hormones like leptin and insulin have an impact on expenditure, so the main take-at-home message from people criticising the CICO method is that food QUALITY is the main thing not the amount of "CALORIES" on the nutritional label. I for example was fat eating around 2400 kcal at 235 pounds now I'm down to 190 pounds and eating 3-5 k kcal per day, but still losing fat since im not consuming carbs, also my activity level is the same.

I dont think i agree with thomas either. So what causes higher thermogenic effect in whole foods ? I am just thinking if maybe fiber requires more energy to be broken down. Less processed foods are more likely to have more fiber in them thus they have a higher thermogenic effect. Maybe fiber digestion requires those extra calories for the creation of the appropriate enzymes. Also, we know that protein has a higher thermogenic effect and more whole foods tend to have more protein as well so maybe that might contribute to this effect. (Just claims i am just thinking out loud)

This is all clear, conservation of energy and metabolic adaptation. But what if some part of nutrition therefore that part of energy doesn't get absorbed. Like insoluble fiber and too much fat that has a laxative effect. Keto: 1. Fat gets absorbed and used way more gardually than carbs, insulin doesn't increase that much so you get satiated for a longer time and you get more stable energy. 2. Part of fat doesn't get absorbed cause of fiber or it comes out as a laxative. So on keto you basically get into a caloric deficit without realizing it.

Processed food that spike up insulin makes you want more of it specially white sugar you, and you end up eating more like the studies you mentioned! But doesn't it require more energy to digest fiber specially if their hard like broccoli? Same goes with a protein source like from a stake that is harder to digest? Because I think that's what Thomas means.
