@@rcajavus8141 I agree... the e-Golf/GTE 2018 way of toggling regenerative braking is perfect. In most EVs (incl. ID.3) the switch is too far away from the center armrest. But Peugeot has wisely adopted the gearstick switch (but then again lacks the AUTO-HOLD feature)

Bjorn, turn on the turn signal and look at the bulbs from the outside, they look like a heart beating. Mazda has a division called jinba-ittai or man and horse in one. They tune little things like gas pedal angle, brake feel, steering wheel, angle of the head rest, the little things that make a good car great. That’s why you like it so much because Mazda tunes every little thing so the car drives as naturally as possible.

@@rcajavus8141 sorry but actually not every manufacturer cares about these little things. Some cars are still made with inadequate headrest height and angle, inadequate steering column adjustment, putting brake pedal too high which makes throttle-brake transition a hassle, unlinear pedal mapping, and some expensive German ones don't even bother to make the steering wheel centrally aligned with the seat and pedals.

I actually enjoy the fake engine noise; it may enhance the driving experience in the same way some app UIs provide audible clicks and even tactile response when scrolling in lists, for example. But it should be customizable with downloadable sounds: Suzuki Hayabusa, F-16 jetfighter, bigblock V8, 2-stroke moped... 🤪

My favourite one is actually the pedestrian warning sound on the i3 and i8... it's so eerie and ethereal. And I agree - with an internal combustion car you can basically know your speed by the pitch of the engine noise. Silent electrics have you looking at the speedo more often. Which my driving instructor told me off for back when I was taking lessons! "Keep your eyes on the road, not on your speedometer", he said.

It would be fun to see a regular-ish feature where you review cars from a "city car" perspective. It would be a mostly like this review. Driving around town and talking about the +/- of the car in the city environment would be a major part. Maybe there could also be a few specific tests like Wh/k used in city driving conditions, tightness of turning circle, ease of parking, acceleration for getting into traffic from a stop or from a highway on-ramp, and overall size vs storage capacity (can it do IKEA?). Anyway, you produce a lot of great videos. Thanks for the information and entertainment!

Hi Bjørn. I like your car tests. Been watching many of your prevoius videos too. I feel that maybe you have misses a few things about this car. Like the regen. Paddles behind steeringwheel with 5 settings. It does not have autosteer. But Lane Assist system. That means that it keeps you from driving over centerline or shoulder on the road. It seem to activate when you get past 60 kph. The rattle sound must be a fluke that it is on your exact demo car. I have this car myself. No rattling anywhere. Neither on the democar at the dealership i have driven. Or from people i know who also own this car. Bad luck that you got the ‘only’ one that does :) Wheelspin is because of the studless Conti tires. I have driven this on summertires and then it has better grip. Also i felt it was a tiny bit more quiet. But this car has very good noise dampening. One of the better one i have driven. I am a car guy and has driven alot of different cars trough the years. So here Mazda have done right on the MX30, and on the more recent models from them. I would like people to take a test drive with this car before judging it online. Because you get a hell of a car for this price. Premium quality sensation when you drive and looking at the build quality in general. About the range i have about 170 km average now in lower temp. It seems to be stable there on mixed driving. Wintertyres are friction tires, and will always make range shorter on EV’s. Or more fuel consumtion on a fossil car. Summertires are better for the range. I believe that range is very close to the WLTP of 200 km in warmer weather and on summertires. If people need a car with more range, ok then dont buy this one. But if you drive up to 150 km per day and can charge at home over night, i dont think you can get a better and low priced EV as Mazda MX30. Just a sidenote from a Norwegian MX30 owner. I will recommend curious people also to visit MX30 owners Facebookgroup. Lot of information there from owners. Congratulations on 200k subs BTW :) Regards Øyvind

Maybe somebody mentionned this elsewhere but I just got some Conti VikingContact 7 on my M3SR+ and they do spin and trigger traction control even on dry asphalt. I believe this is the reason this Mazda spins when flooring it. Might not be just because of the power of this particular car. BTW, I lowered my acceleration to Comfort just so I don't wear out the rubber too quickly...

Use Apple car play or Android auto instead usb to smartphone. Problem solved. 2 Touch screen. Mazda feels its unsafe during driving. Ok, maybe, the round, solid i Drive like thingy you get used to it. 3 Range, OK. The thing is it really depends on driving style and loads of stuff you already know. Bjørn is having fun. Using the regen paddles helps. Eco driving helps. You can easily eke out more range If you try. 4 E sound. Mazda claims its a safety feature and they are right in my opinion. Almost lost my licence in an eerily silent etron. Gives the driver a sense of speed. Dont get paid by Mazda to post this just really like my MX-30

The main design issue with the MX30 are the suicide doors, which only have disadvantages. 1) Although getting in is OK, once in the back you are at the mercy of front passengers who must open their doors first. It makes you feel unsafe in case of accident or when the car gets in the water, not a hypothetical risk in NL. 2) It is also claustrophobic with small space and those very small windows. 3) Due to the huge B style in the suicide door, visibility, looking for cars coming from behind, is very poor. Luckily the car has blind spot monitoring - you need it. Visibility around the car is poor in any case. 4) When you park in a parking garage between two cars, the passengers sitting in the back can impossibly get out - the space between the front and suicide doors is just too narrow. 5) Somebody may accidentally throw the suicide doors on the front doors if the wrong order of door closing is followed. For these reasons the MX30 is a poor choice as a family car. Mazda had better opted for a conventional door layout.
@DidesCharlie
@DidesCharlie 2 жыл бұрын
I have bought the car partly as the door configuration is excellent in helping access for my elderly mother. She is not so able as she used to be, and the wide open space allowed for by the lack of pillar is a huge help in allowing her to swing in from the side with no restrictions. They're also really good for strapping in young kids without being awkward. I appreciate these might be niche uses but please don't presume that the doors ONLY have disadvantages.

Mazda have said they will consider an option to disable the engine noise but at the moment it cannot for "safety reasons." That statement was made almost a year ago so I wouldn't hold my breath of them listening to potential owner feedback and acting on it.

The engine noise is not VESS. It's still audible at 60-80 km/h. VESS is only for 0-30 km/h.

Looks like the Honda E finally has a rival when it comes to really good looking, compact, short range, high end EV's. Pretty sure they will sell more of this than the Honda E since people still remember that Mazda exists, unlike Honda, and they actually advertise it, unlike Honda...

Yeah but you get a worse car. With the Mx-30 you have to stop driving after an hour because it’s going to run out of range. With a e-208 you want to stop driving after an hour because it’s crap lol

'Born Rex' - if that is true and Mazda actually put a Rex into the car, then I would buy it (I really liked my Mazda's). BMW i3 REx was the best compromise for carrying around unnecessary (for 99% of the time) batteries, and yet giving great comfort that you can go anywhere at any time. However, as it is - there appears to be way too may compromises with this Mazda (and the very annoying engine noise).

It's essentially the opposite of Rapidgate, which is what happens when the battery on a car (like a Leaf or a Golf) overheats due to repeated fast charging, severely limiting the charging speed. Coldgate: same problem, opposite cause.

Whereas I find Mazda rather disrespectful in not giving car owners the choice in whether they want to hear an artificial sound or not, we should not exaggerate it now. I have driven 1500 km in the MX30 now, and I do not notice the sound much. Bjorn found the car to make 64 db in noise, quiet therefore, so the artificial sound is apparently not that deafening. But it might be quieter still without that artificial sound.

dont know why electric adjustable seats are one of the main positives... who cares? you set the seat once and thats it...no big deal if its manual
@Bertvanmanen602
@Bertvanmanen602 3 жыл бұрын
Well, if you have two drivers you can programme the seat and mirror adjustment for each driver, and connect it to the keys. So if Wifey uses car Key 1 and Husby uses car Key 2, the car will immediately set up the chair, mirror and even head-up display when they open the car with their respective keys. That I call clever thinking.

I'm shocked that after years of marketing their cars to have un-distracting interiors, with physical infotainment and climate controls, they would then put the climate controls on a hard to see screen while keeping the infotainment wheel. It makes zero sense.
