New Sub here. I've been enjoying your reactions and commentary. I appreciate your perspective. I'm over 50 white and from the south so obviously you and I have different life experiences. That being said I love that you're a deep person and willing to get clarity on issues. If we could have important conversations with the willingness to hear instead of just waiting to talk we could gain understanding. I agree with alot of the things you say and disagree with some. That's ok. When they talk about CRT or DEI I can understand why but disagree with the solution. Often times society all sees the problem just 2 different extremes trying to offer solutions. All of society would agree that school shootings are horrible and needs to stop. Some feel the solution is gun control. Others feel its arming teachers and posting armed security at the front door. Sorry for the long comment just had my own thoughts

Absolutely. We don't really try to understand each other often. Debate is a good thing, and you should be open to ideas you didn't arrive to the conversation with. School shootings is a good example. Neither side wants them to continue but the solutions they come up with to the problem are very different. Love one another. Especially those you disagree with. Hate only leads to bad places.

I fully agree with this statement. I think when mixed with this context to ignore one’s skin color is to say I don’t see something you’ve been fully aware of your whole life and treated different because of. It’s just not honest in my opinion. But I’m open to learning and listening to other people perspectives

Think you mean someone culture. Skin color is just some way to describe someone and in way they reflect who they are. Versus culture is customs , arts and etc of social group. While being black in America fall in to Black American culture not all do. And to assume that they do is not right and can be offensive or a complement.

@@TayStephthat’s the point I think your missing about color blindness. People who talk about color blindness what others to stop seeing race and to judge people after meeting them. Color blindness is the exact opposite of CRT that says everything about a person is dependent on their race. I don’t know about you but I’d rather live as MLK suggested and judge people on their actions.

Saying you have a history with slavery means nothing. If one goes back far enough in their lineage, you will find slavery. Every person on Earth is somehow related to someone who has been enslaved. It's been the scourge of humanity since the very dawn of it.

I grew up in the 50s and 60s. The conversation today is more intellectualized than it was back then. Back then discrimination was the norm and somehoe we got through it, now racists (those who attribute merit to skin color) are breathing new life into racism. THAT, is not colorblind.

I have met a lot of people from a variety of countries and I can tell you, the color of a person's skin does not tell you anything useful about their culture, personality, creed, principles, or upbringing. For example, a black person from the Bronx is not going to be the same as a black person from the Caribbean or the UK or Latin America or Africa. It does not tell you if they were raised in a poor, working class, middle class, or wealthy environment. A person born with wealth does not behave the same as a person born in the ghetto. Black people can be one of many different cultures, or be a mix of cultures. So skin color by itself does not tell much about a person.

Let me see if I can simplify the first 30 seconds. Every white person in America has not had the same experience. Some have been very privileged, some have not. Some are men, some are women (leading to very different experiences). Making any judgements about them (except they might be susceptible to sun burns), you can't be sure you're right. By extension, making assumptions by a person of color simply based on their skin color is making assumptions about their experiences. Some have grown in the hood, some grew up in Bel Air. Some grew up with only a mother or father but some grew up in a 2 parent household. Some like rap and some do not. Some like bling, some don't. But making any of those assumptions, none of them necessarily negative, still creates an unfair basis of assumptions. Its 100% unfair to assume that skin color 100% does tell you something. That is the very definition of racism.

Parents pass down hate, and they pass down hate to their kids. Children don’t understand race more than he is a different color. I was kicked out of a black friend’s house on his birthday, and he was told to not be my friend anymore. I didn’t understand why I wasn’t allowed over, and he didn’t understand why he wasn’t allowed to be my friend. We were still friends we just had to hang out at another friend’s house after school.

I listened to your statement and the one thing was consistent is that you were saying that I would probably assume something about you based on the color your skin, not that I would know. I think people who see me ( a black man 65 years old) would not assume that I was brought up as a vegetartian. Nor does my skin color tell you that I was brought up un a household where both of my parents in the inner city were great lovers of classical musc, which I still love today.

Every time I hear this implication that skin color provides the perspective of an experience no one else has, it truly puzzles me. That is not something that is related to skin color at all. Do you all think white people have the same experiences in life? all hispanics? This is a train of thought that makes no logical sense because humans as individuals don't share experiences.

Seeing people by the color of their skin is racist. Because it's the same as judging them by the color of their skin and not by their character or by who they are or what kind of a person they are. And when you see people by the color of their skin, you will never see them as your equal. When people say they don't see people by the color of their skin, they are saying that they don't people by the color of their skin they judg them by their character. Like for example have you ever hered some say I don't want to be seen by the color of my skin I won't to be seen by who I am. Your character and your personality is what makes you who you are not the color of your skin.

"If skin color isnt important than why are there different skin colors" Im sorry, that was the most ignorant (i dont mean that as an insult) Skin colors exist based on localized evolutionary adaptations to environment. The closer your ancestors lived to the equator, the darker your skin. And no, i wont say anything around people of my skin color that i wouldnt say around another person of a different color. Because im not a racist. If i wouldnt say it to black people i wont say it to white people or mexican people.

I appreciate your intellectual honesty 👏🏾 it's a breath of fresh air. About this color blindness topic, consider the fact that there are white Africans, black Asians, etc. On this planet. MLK put it best speaking of what he wished for his daughters...that they be judged by the content of their character. It takes time and it requires openness, listening, and a little bit of self-forgetting but assuming nothing about a person because the color of their skin is the ideal. Not their IQ nor learning. Not their income, Political values nor party affiliation. Not their ancestry, religion, nor their aspirations. Keep exploring! You're on the right path.

That still falls into stereotypes, we all have different qualities in an average sense, and should all be taking humanity to the next level, but as long as we stew in division... it does "nothing" but hold humanity back as a species, on a universal scale... racism is in my opinion a trait of a primitive mind, and a defeatist mindset 🤔

Acknowledge that everyone has their own unique look, ethnicity, culture, likes and dislikes. But we should all acknowledge basic commonalities. We all want to go home to our friends and family each day. We all want to be treated with respect. We all dont want bad things to happen to us or each other. Love and kindness should be on all our hearts. No matter how we look. Everyone eats at the table all the same. The ones that want to divide us will use our differences as their weapons.

That's not what he means by immutable traits. Immutable traits are traits that are common to all humans across national, geographic, and color lines. Skin color gives you ethnic knowledge to draw on. But that kind of knowledge is learned. Immutable traits are human traits. Imagine if you only talked to a person on the phone. You wouldn't know his skin color or his nationality, however you would have traits that you could bond over just by being human. Those are immutable traits.

No one is color blind, not even the blind, and everyone is racist, it is in our nature, and for very good reasons. This of course has nothing to do with intent. You can be racist without any malice, and it really means is that you are weary of those who are different, and it is perfectly natural. Only someone who can admit to these simple truths, will I accept as being even remotely color blind, though obviously they're not and presumably would never make such claims

Personally I hate the term colorblind. I see color, but color is beautiful. I do believe the color of skin is far less important than most immutable characteristics. I mean height should truly make a bigger difference in someone’s life than the color of their skin. It would be a pretty boring world if we all looked the same.

Great video- Keep it going. Our country has been going downhill since 2021 and it's sad.. When I was a kid, my parents said the democrats were for the blue collar workers. Later, when I was in my 20's , I started listening to Rush Limbaugh on AM radio. He made sense and that changed my opinion. I focus on the Policies, over their personality. The policies of the two parties are complete opposites. Make a choice. Every vote counts. Conservative speakers that you can watch and learn from include- Glenn Beck, Dan Bongiono, Charlie Kirk, Clay & Buck, Sean Hannity, Larry Elder, Candice Owens, Dr. Thomas Sowell, Office Tatium, Ben Shapiro. In my opinion, the Democrats want the illegal migrants to vote for them so they can take over the entire country. Democrats have taken minority votes for granite for many decades. Most of what they accuse the republicans of doing, they are already doing themselves. Main stream media hides the truth. Many big corporations donate to the left. Don't donate to ivy league colleges. Its super important to vote. Let's turn it around.

(Response to minute mark around 15:40 of video) Of course you can listen to someone who is speaking about diversity equity and inclusion. Or critical race theory. I understand that you want to hear information before you make a judgment. Go for it. We’ve just already heard what they had to say and even better than that, we’ve seen all their actions and how they fail to do what they say they’re attempting to do. And instead, promote racism. So… We don’t need to hear any thing else from them on the subject. But I applaud your effort and your drive to want to hear it for yourself. That’s important. You should do that. I’ll leave you with one personal belief. Real Evil wears make up. It disguises itself as something pretty. Or as something that sounds sweet. Love doesn’t have to look pretty or sound sweet. It’s shown and felt through action.

I liked what you were saying about seeing the beauty in what someone else is doing, and I agree with you. But what if once you understand what someone is doing, like you have thoroughly listened to their perspective and see their aim and you recognize that what they are doing is actually destructive to themselves and to you and your family. How do we respond then? Like in your analogy you said that you like to invest and she likes to spend to buy things for her family- what if you are investing money that your family needs to utilize for other needs in the moment, or what if she is over spending on frivolous things when you have more consequential needs, so yes we need to understand their perspective but we also need to hold them to account for irrational and irresponsible behaviors that we recognize as harmful for all of us. So again, how do we respond to that in matters of society and coming together as a community to say wait; this isn’t objective anymore, this is actually harmful. I’ve enjoyed watching y’alls videos and I love seeing different perspectives on things. I subscribed, and will keep watching!

we were all slaves sold all over the world so your skin tone has nothing to do with the person as much as their ancestry untill their actions show you the type human being they are. I"m a white man married to a black woman with 5 beautful adult children that had to deal with ignarants alot so i taught my kids to never judge peopleby the color of skin but by how their treated.

I don’t think your traffic light analogy is a good comparison at all. The point of a traffic light is the color is the entire point of the traffic light. The issue I have with your saying is that in your mind everyone in the world who’s black has had the same experiences. I know Black people from different parts of the world that don’t one thing in common with you. but you’re saying I should still have the same apprehensions with any person that has skin color close to yours

Have you ever met a Hispanic black? They can be found in Latin America. They have dark skin but culturally they are Hispanic and have more in common with Latinos than American Blacks. Judging them based on their skin color would never tell you that. You have to actually get to know them to find out their culture and personality. Their culture and personal values tell you more about them than the color of their skin or "race." This is what they are referring to when saying skin color or race does not tell you much about a person. You may make inaccurate assumptions about someone based on the color of their skin.

Character not color. Being respectful of other people's ethnicity is what you mean, but if you are assuming (which is stupid to do) just because of the color of skin, that's a very shallow or superficial way to look at others. It seems to me you're just being respectful of other people.

I think you're mixing things up. I think you're talking first impressions where this video is talking about a generalized judgment of people based on immutable characteristics. For example, as a white man I would never use the N-word, nor do I have the desire to ever use it, around black people. That is a generalized rule among most in society and is a decision made based on skin color. That would be a first impression. If I saw the same black person and instantly thought they be a thug that wants to attack me, that is generalized judgment, which is racism. The differences are very subtle, but they are there.

I think you are confused - IN NO WAY can you look at a person and by the color of their skin determine who they are what they may or may not be sensititve to in your way of speaking or your subject matter or anything else. That is what is meant when they say the color of a person tells you nothing of the person. YOU are looking with Prejudice Eyes my friend - you have been taught to be prejudiced because if you say that by looking at someone you can tell their upbringing, history or background. This is the problem - you have decided that skin color tells you these things. So if you look upon a Man who is black and you decide those things you mentioned you neglect the fact this man was raised maybe in Japan, Vietnam, Sweeden or England .... all places where persons of Color might be raised and would be (are) completely different in their likes and dislikes, in their mannerisms, their food choices, their speaking from one another (America is the only country where Blacks speak differently than the majority of the country the standard lingo if you will). You are incorrect and this video I hope will help you see it. Determine a Persons Personality and who they are after you have encounters with them - after you know something about them. Not before.
@jeanb.5405
@jeanb.5405 18 күн бұрын
Also - HOW can race tell you about a person lets say who is Black - since Blacks come from all over the world and their behviors, mannerisms, life styles, religions, are ALL different. Africa Alone has so many different Cultures within itself! Cuban Blacks differ greatly from American Blacks, Australian Blacks completely differ from other Blacks say from South Africa than from Egypt. Get real you cannot determine anything about a Black Man just because you see he is Black! Same for every other race. You cannot determine anthing about a Vietnamese person just by looking at them - there are many differing cultures in Vietnam. And so on.

I like your reactions but i think you both missed the idea on this video. The tone of your skin has nothing to do with someone's character, or socio-economic status. For example, a Zimbabwean has almost nothing in common with an american of african descent. And both with have almost cothing in common with a dark skin Tamil. It is more about cultire than skin "colour". Sadly, many americans do no get this. And by saying it is relevant and certain things come to mind when you meet certain groups, sounds a bit racist. We as humans need to stop focusing on it, to most it is irrelevant. Culture however can change & we should focus in that. However....I agree 100% of what you have both said, re: hate and discriminate against "white" people and keep doing it, and every failure is about race/ever success is also about this. You madd some very good points. But I must say that a lot of the "Anti racism" movements, including BLM, were socialist & violent in nature, and actually made things in the US worse. And this doesn't help african descended americans at all. It creates a divide. Thanks for your comments, ideas & watching these videos. Fascinatingly & interesting to watch. Hi from Australia

I agree with the statement about the color of your skin tells you nothing important about a person. I love that you are stopping to think and discuss it. In America a Black American is likely tied to slavery. With immigration though it is less true. There are many direct African immigrants and their descendants now. It is not correct to think all white people are privileged English immigrant descendants who had it easy and privileged, or that all white people owned slaves or were racist in the past. White people come from different countries and cultures and lived different experiences, just as a Hispanic person from Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, or Argentina have different experiences and pasts. American black people, while not entirely monolithic, largely share the history of slavery and the fact that their unique history and culture from where they came in Africa were wiped out by being slaves. They have that shared history of slavery and the culture they built here in America building lives beyond the repression they were forced to live under for so long in the south. African immigrants today retain their national heritage/identity which is different from those African Americans descended from slaves. Where was I going with this? I don’t think you can tell as much about a person from the color of their skin as we think it does.

Black people from New York City are not the same as black people from South Carolina. A Latino from Colombia is different from a Latino from Mexico. Your skin color doesn't tell me ANYTHING about you. I have to get to know you and what you represent. Judging your character rather than the color of your skin came from MLK. I don't need to know about slavery to know you, just like you don't need to know about Nazis to know Germans.
