I'm a huge sabbath fan (albeit only getting into them about 5 years ago) and always underappreciated Iron Man because of how commercial I always considered it, hearing it in movies, video games and TV adverts my whole life (I'm 27). It's only after thoroughly listening to all their albums over and over that I now have a whole new appreciation for it, especially that epic outro! As well as the fact it has not 1 but about 4 very memorable riffs/guitar parts throughout the song. Both Iron Man and War Pigs are in my top 10 sabbath tracks despite Master of Reality being my favourite sabbath album

I can't remember my first time hearing this... however I will tell you all about my most memorable. It was ozzfest 1997, my 21st birthday (no joke) at old mile high stadium in denver. The ticket was a birthday gift, I had over $200 spending cash, was able to get 9 doobies in thru security. I was looking to have a good time. They had the stage set up in the south end zone. My friend and I were about 30 yards away dead center. Ozzy did a set of his solo stuff then came out for Black Sabbath. I was super stoked to see they had Mike Bordin (Faith no More) as their drummer for ozzy and Sabbath. To the point..... it had been lightly raining the entire time, and when the drops were hitting the laser beams they would light up, a visual I will never forget. Which then led to this... when Ozzy stepped up to up to mic and said "I am iron man" and just as he started a huge bolt of lightning went of many miles away but to us it was directly in line with center stage. The crowd erupted and with the camera zoomed in on his face, you could see Ozzy smile so big in delight. Sorry so long... us old guys tend to ramble on when high!

My father, clearly a man of infinite wisdom, got me a cassette tape with Paranoid on one side and Heaven & Hell on the other side when I was about 5 years old (currently 31) and it was without a doubt the thing that as shaped my taste in music the most. I wore that sucker out man. My poor mother would go insane on long car rides because her sweet little boy would just want us to listen to Black Sabbath the whole way. I can hear the differences in this remastered version so clearly because the sound from that original is burned into the oldest parts of my memory right along with how to ride a bike (and I actually rather like what was done to bring out the sound of the bass more for this remaster). And of course Iron Man was my favorite song off the album, cuz it was so cool to 5 yo me. Love what you do Geebz, looking forward to the black metal! \m/

Sabbath was one of the few bands of this era, that wasn't really played in my house. My family listened to a wide range of musical styles and my 2 brothers both listened to rock (mainly). Oh MAN Geebz, you're gonna bring this one down when I'm at work?! I feel that Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Dio, etc... are quintessential bands for any metalhead to call their top inspirations or reasons to get into music. I had their greatest hits of the first 8 growing up, and probably put down over 500 listens front to back on it! Each album is a wall of crushing vocals from Ozzy, masterful just brain melting riffs from Tony, smooth and clean drum work from Bill, and next level talent coming from Geezer. They have so many albums where each song could get radio play. As you can tell, Sabbath will always hold that special place in my heart as the band that started my soundtrack of life, that no matter who I may be listening to at the time, they will always be my "favorite." Thanks Geebz for the great vid (at the end of a pretty bad day, too!) _How'd you know I needed this tonight?_ I know you will get around to them again, so can't wait to hear _Snowblind,_ _Supernaut,_ _War Pigs,_ and so many others! Maybe a quick dive into __Perry Mason_ from Ozzy, _Burn_ from Deep Purple, or practically EVERYTHING from Dio? Love ya, man, thanks for all the work you do for us! Awwwright!

Tone that twists your brain. It’s elemental. I’ve been tentatively been chasing this sound for the past ten years. I do a lot of researching but can’t seem to pull the trigger. “Oyster on the half lung!” I used to to use floor standing Marantz speakers as headphones in the mid 70’s. I miss it all….of a time, with the ability to heal. I love how the drums keep the beats and other times they a part of the melody. A low end masterpieces! Very few instruments and just as few tracks but they have choice frequencies throughout, giving an illusion of time and space. So much fun!

Thanks so much for all your cool insights! Hearing how some of my favorite songs are put together from a composer/engineer point of view is really rewarding. If I might suggest something you've not touched on yet, its the discordant/a-harmonic side of death metal. Many bands have played with the style over the years, but the groundbreaking album in most people's opinion is Gorguts - Obscura from 1993. The way they weave a melody out of dissonance is absolutely groundbreaking. Kinda like listening to Edgar Varese after years of Mozart. The song I would suggest is "Sweet Silence" because it also includes a kind of cascading rhythm that seems almost impossible. Once again thanks for your great work!

I can't even remember when I first heard this song, but it was some time in the 90s. It was either a car ride or at home, and both parents were keen on playing it. I started actively appreciating them during my teenage years. I was taking deep dives into different bands, putting names to the music in my life up until that point. First it was like System of a Down and Slipknot because it was new. Then Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Etc. Black Sabbath and solo Ozzy were in there for a few weeks before I overindulged. I change the car's radio station any time I hear the hour's Sabbath song*, but I have the utmost respect for them. They really did usher in my favorite sounds. *Guns N' Roses, too. Terrestrial radio plays the fuck out of Sweet Child o' Mine and I'm forever put off of it.

Geebz, love you man! Been binging your backlog for the last couple of weeks. Wanted to drop in a unique recommendation: Villagers Of Ioannina City, their a Greek rock band that adapts old folk music to psychedelic rock, but what I think you might find most interesting about them is that their main solo instrument is a clarinet. They have a few songs with bagpipe solos too. They’re really neat and think you might get a kick out of them. anyways, keep it up man! 🙌

Oh how I remember listening to this masterpiece as a kid... I had this MP3 player, which was pretty much a brand new thing back then. I got it for christmas back then and was so damn excited that I could now listen to my favorite music even more comfortably than walking around with an old walkman. Yeah, I had quite shitty earphones back then, but I was still happy to have it. And what I always remember the most was listening to this song and other similar masterpieces while laying in bed at our summerhouse and my grandma yelling at me to turn down the volume. And what I would also do was that I wore a hoodie to school for just one reason - so I could basically have one of the earphones cable run through my sleeve and I would rest my head on my palm, which was covering the earphone in my ear. Nothing genius, but got the work done. Oh well, good old times.

1st music album i got at age 10 back in 1976 with some good help from my fathers wallet. A national acrobat from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath would be fun to see you take on.

I really miss guitar and drum solos. Just found your channel and I'm guessing we're about the same age. We have similar soundtracks lol Don't hate on Big Wheels! Lol. I was cruising on one in the 70s🤣

I'm surprised they remastered the bass with those clicky frequencies left in on the hard left. Would have assumed that could have been eq'd that out slightly more. I love a buzzy string vibe but it's slightly invasive in my opinion. Great song and review though! Keep up the good work Geebz

For me an older kid introduced me to records though this and Elton John, they were his big brothers; he’s about 12 and I’m 11-ish. Didn’t get into this but I still think Daniel was my first sang to off of a record. Later I did pro sound and toured as Soundman and spent much geld on stereo stuff. I soon found I liked jazz (parents) but also enjoyed Stairway To Heaven and some Creme when they came on the radio, later as a senior in HS it’s was all Prog. In fifth grade A kid brought Chicago 2 to class and I dug that and I think that’s when I got the bug for stereo and records. I mention my sound background because I think had we had a good system Metal might have impressed me more, you can’t really get much from a kids player. I have an Evanescence CD prog-metal and a good option for a reaction. The first record I played on my first serious stereo was Chicago 7. Later that year Boston came on the scene - wow. So I start in about ‘70 and spend more on a stereo than my car by ‘78.

When talking about Planet Caravan, which they made just jamming with Ozzy singing improvised lyrics that they tightened up into the final product, Geezer Butler said that whatever songs they made, Ozzy had a knack for finding the perfect melody to sing for it.

66 year old disabled "used to be" self taught drummer\took piano lessons\messed with bass, guitar old guy here. I have a 2 song request you will not get from anyone else unless they see this by blind luck. I believe the album is 1970-'71 "Cactus"- "Parchman Farm" and "Oleo. The skill that "Carmine Appice" has as a drummer and "Jim McCarty" as a guitarist are pathetically ignored and it's a shame. "Rusty Day" the singer had a great rasp to his voice and "Tim Bogert" on Bass was a match made in heaven. Rusty and his daughter along with his brother were murdered over what is believed to be 200 dollars and Tim died earlier this year. I wish SOMEONE with musical knowledge and appreciation would do these 2 songs for those of us who grew up (trying) to play them. Thank you for your channel. We have the same sense of humor (pretty much)(I'm Autistic) :) Edit: If you do you will want the studio versions

I think the contrast between the lower, bass tones of the music and the higher pitch of Ozzy's vocals are what makes these songs work.

As a contrast to what we all expect from Black Sabbath, listen to "Caravan". It us so different than what you expect. 🤔
