Actual story from one of the song writers, he got a call about 10pm one night and his songwriting buddy gave him the line caught my wife with another man and it cost me 99. His friend said I got him in jail you get him out. The rest is a hit song

Thank god, you understood this one from the get go. I have watched too many people react to this video and the purpose of the female dog go over their head. I mean seriously, it is a vital part to his plan and the story he's telling. At least you got it, didn't even have to think twice about. And yes, young Blake was long haired Blake. It's been a minute though since he's had the curls though, like early 2000s he did away with the hair. Others have already recommended some good songs of his but I'll throw them out there as well. Some Beach, which perfectly fits this whole Covid mindset going on right now. Austin, a cute little love song that made Blake into a heart-throb back in his long haired days. Hillbilly Bone, it features Trace Adkins and is just a silly sort of funky song. The Baby, personal favorite of mine because it reminds me of my baby brother. And so much more, he's been doing this for almost 20 years and has remained current in the country scene so he has plenty of songs for you to listen to.

I assume that the walks he took Red on were not that long and he would be missed rather quickly. By keeping Red away for 3 or 4 days and then running Blake got a little more head start, probably as much as a couple hours. But the main reason? Because if he did it your way there would not have been much of a song :)
