It's implied that Sky Beak and Ocean Flow are separated and not in a relationship anymore, but they're on good terms. So it's like Terramar is dealing with a divorce problem.

I really liked the episode. Since most of the lesson remained unspoken and subtext, it really helped the episode, because now it can be interpreted in many different ways. The most obvious is that it is about divorced/separated parents, but it also works if you interpreted it as bi-national/bi-cultural parents or families living in different countries. On a (very far) stretch , one can even read something about gender-identity into it, if one wants too and likely many other things, I cannot think of at that moment. Bringing attention to Scootaloo's disability is also nice and sad. I totally loved Twilight in this, mostly because she totally reminded me of myself. When I go to a conference/business trip to an exotic location, I behave pretty much like her and try to make the same excuses (even use some of exactly the same phrases) for enjoying my research trips.

Aw so much cuteness in this episode.

I like how Scoot's and Sweetie's song was basically a flashback to the fight that led Terramar's parents to break up in the first place. He even reacted to the fight in a congruent manner.

I have been waiting for the CMC's to get called by the map, so I was extremely happy by this. I know some people think that the map should be only call the mane six, but I have been on the firm believe that anyone that the mane six know could potentially be called. And since Starlight and Spike have been both been called, that furthers my belief, and now of course the CMC. And Scootaloo's line about the swimming being close to what flying probably feels like, that line got me. And as a episode it was a lot of fun. Really enjoyable, in my opinion.

I am noticing that each of the races seem to have some major sin that seem to be slowly overcoming. Griffons are greedy, dragons and yaks are wrathful, hippogriffs are prideful. Changelings and ponies were both at one point very envious, but seem to have gotten over that near-completely.

Scootaloo: For all intents and porpoises. Raritydash: Wow. I don't know why that was funny.

I LOVED Twilight here, just, so happy and eager and curious, while still staying responsible. As to the Map thing, I figured she felt it was alright given, the CMC really did need an adult with them, and Twilight wasn't actually helping them with their mission.

Finally, an interesting episode.

Poor Scootaloo. First she's a chicken, then she's a dog, now she's a fish. Why must you do this to her, writers? The question is, which does she taste like? ...I'm a terrible pony.

Felt like one of those episodes where all Terramar or the CMC's had to do was talk to the parents about the problem almost immediately. Though if they did that, it would be a really short episode. Aside from that, the world building was good, I liked how the CMC's ruined their own song, and Oceanflow was cute, so I liked it.

So far, I’ve got two things I wished for in S8, from this episode; the CMC being summoned by the map and learning more about the hippogriff’s/hippocampi, like how the pearl was shattered into fragments and given to the residents of Mnt. Aris. I think it’s pretty cool that Silverstream has a brother and I do like Terramar, as well as their parents. I really do like the song in this episode, one of my favorites sung by the CMC. Even though I agree with Sweetie that Harmonizing Heights is an amazing place, I also relate to Scootaloo living in Seaquestria because I have a fascination for ocean life. All in all, this episode is a S8 highlight for me, next to “School Daze.” Very nice reaction, I enjoyed this one!

I’m sensing a divorced parent theme here, with how he had two houses and had to choose between his mother and his father.

I guess we can call them CM seaponies.

I like how, despite the implication that they’re divorced and not romantically involved with each other anymore, there’s no hard feelings between Sky Beak and Ocean Flow. There’s no subtle glares, no passive-aggressiveness, and no trying to turn Terrimar against the other parent. They’re not in love anymore, but they’re still good friends and good parents.

In case it wasn't obvious: The strong implication is that Ocean Flow and whats his face are amicably divorced. Got together, realized they didn't work out as a pair, and split up but remained friends.

Starlight should've been there. She'd do some magic shit and fuse the air and sea together into some floating water palace, but then mess it up by flooding the world. Maybe she could fuse the two species instead. Into some kinda mutant Seagriff. That'd be Starlight.

I love how the episode pretty much is similar to a child struggling with their parents being divorced. They dont know who to stay with. Which is a serious struggle to them mentally.

I think this episode has a hidden message about divorced parents with the family being in different places.

Also what with you and the moon xD While i like this episode the recent map episodes are kind of a let down. The other map episodes had what seem like a simple problem affect the entire community but they are not doing that anymore :/ though I do like the allegory for a child with divorced parents even if these actual parents are probably still married but just love their land and sea life style but the allegory to divorced parents is still evident and while the resolution seemed obvious i feel it works. Talmar NEEDED to hear he didnt have to choose especially from his own parents. To a kid that helps a lot.

The relationship of parents is up to interpretation either two of them are still together but live separate they could be divorce but are amicable exes where they aren't together anymore but are still have good friendship or they are still lovers but they never got married.

I kinda like this episode, I find it kind of relatable because my parents are divorced and live in different places. I felt sort of the same way as the little hypogriff character, forgot his name.

Think about it too. Both Terramar and Silverstream are Princess Skystar's cousins. And confirmed it's the mother Ocean Flow that's Queen Novo's sister.. ;) Also like how this works as from between two divorced parents without mention it, and of when it's a good kind of divorce, where the parents stayed friends and live close (enough) so the child don't need to descide who to be with, and have the children foremost in mind. That last one reminds me of me and sis when our parents divorced. Only different there was not living close to eachother (though that's what they wanted, as they both thought os us the kids foremost, though other things made it be different cities). So of that kind, this episode I adore.

Fun fact: the writer of this episode was born in my hometown of St. Louis and was a Film Appreciation teacher at my college, Webster University.

I think as long as you know one of the Mane 6, you can be called by the map. Which, honestly I think is a better idea than just them solving problems. Shows that friendship issues aren't just exclusively solved by the Mane 6.

So, the CMC got called, and BOY not only that but they went FAR! Since Starlight's call (or Spike's) we've been wondering who else the map would call outside of the mane6, and if it were the CMC it would be places like Manehattan (visit Babs) or Canterlot. But all the way out there? And I definitely just LOVE how Scootaloo mentioned the part about flying in water. Not just for the fact of her handicap, but it feels like a nod to The Cupcake Chronicles where Rainbow Dash has lost her wings and Scootaloo mentions to RD that swimming is like flying.

I am shocked that they talked about the Divorce and that is impressive how they handle it.

Frankly, since my parents live apart, I can relate to Tellmar

What I disliked: Twilight annoyed me in this episode. Using the cmc's mission as an excuse to be lazy, and just procrastinating on her "research". This doesn't help, because I already don't like her. That and she's in it. New character: I like him. He sounds like Steve- I mean Thorax. The song: I loved it. Overall: really loved it. One of my new favorites.

Good news: The CMC finally got called by the map! But Twilight ended up having to step in to help them out, and since she had to go with them anyway, it might have well called her too. And unlike back when Starlight and Spike got called, which made sense for them to be picked because of the exact nature of the problem, It don't seem like the CMC was that much more suited for this mission for them to be picked over one or two of the Mane 6 (it could've been say, Twilight and Applejack.) But Hasbro have new toys to sell i guess, so... But i liked seeing Twilight step in to help solve this and be the MVP again. If you ask me, since Starlight started trying the take that job away, Twi's been overdo to get back to saving the day again lol

The one thing that bugs me about this episode is that its plot seems to just go in a circle. Terramar has been going back and forth between his two homes, which is fine, but then suddenly thinks he needs to make a choice for some reason. After some infighting amongst the cmc, Terrarmar eventually learns that he can just do what he was doing at the beginning of the episode. In short, I didn’t feel like there was a clear reason as to why Terrarmar thought he needed to make a choice even though everything was going smoothly.

Situations like this, makes me wish there were more students from the other races, or having those other races move into Ponyville and other pony towns so we see some in the background. Like how we at times see Gryphons in the background at times. Would make the world feel more filled and lived in instead of just the master pony races and every other race being forced in their 1 city kingdoms. Or 2 cities for Hippogriffs.
