The show never talks about Data Dogs again. They said at some point this episode that they are genetically altered to be incredibly smart is all so they have a dog that is a super genius now.

But there is a scene in a later episode where Ein (more or less in the background) does something that might be exactly what he was designed for.

@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps I never saw it that way. Like yeah he is smart enough to do it but I think the project was just making animals capable performing many tasks that require immense intelligence and that was just one of the examples of their application.

@Drew Ward Sure but let's for the moment assume data dogs were in fact specifically designed to do exactly what Ein does in that scene, what more would the show talk about data dogs for? In relation to the rest of the show, I mean.

@MUNCH IEZ I am saying that the crew kept saying "I can't wait to hear more about this Data Dog stuff and learn what that means" but this episode is the only one that actually says the term and they say in the episode what it means.

@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps I took it to mean they were genetically engineered to smuggle sensitive data, and the higher intelligence was a side effect of having a bigger brain to hold the information...kinda 'anime' biology logic but that's how I saw it

its funny how they mentioned the cabbage merchant from Avatar, Cowboy Bebeop was one of the biggest inspirations for the Avatar show. The Cabbage Merchant from Avatar is based on the 3 old doods from the start of the series, Spike and Jet inspired the character Jet and Spikes voice actor was Amon in Korra

Fun Fact: Hakim is modeled after Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Spike uses Jeet Kune Do so this is a homage to Game of Death. EDIT: JK they talked about it haha.

Edit: You guys should definitely watch the movie after the series. Seeing the series in its entirety gives you a more rounded appreciation for the movie. Especially with how Spike's character arc goes. Once again, I can't emphasize how glad I am that this won the poll. More poll options should be like this show: short but sweet. I can't wait until they get to episode 5. Fingers crossed that the next winner will be Steins;Gate.

I'll back this up! Personally, while watching the movie while keeping to strict chronological order isn't necessarily bad, I always tend to watch it afterwards. It has a better feel that way, IMO.

The Steins gate 0 anime is a horrible adaptation of the visual novel. It's better to just skip it. If you want the Steinsgate 0 story you have to play the visual novel. The anime skipped 80% of the story. And combined the two completely separate world lines from the VN. The anime focused almost exclusively on the light hearted moments from the VN and left out almost all of the parts of the VN that are actually extremely dark and intense.

Well to be correct 'Ein' means more 'a' like in "a nice dog". The number one is called 'Eins'.

I always say watch in release order. The movie came out after the show and was made for people knowing how the story ends. I've seen reactors figure out the end of the show just by watching the movie because it echoes the themes of the show so well. It's also fun to figure out for yourself where the movie takes place in chronology of the show from the subtle hint and the cameo.

@@helljumper9828 thats fair, i watched the movie after the series (cuz i didnt know at the time there was one). But the majority of episodes are largely self contained with bits of the overarching story. I always saw the movie as a stand alone episode of sorts. But as long as they watch it i doesn't matter when.

I don't think it's ever been confirmed, but I believe Mr.Briney in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald is a reference to the guy with the bird in this episode because he has a Wingull named Peeko.

My personal favourite thing about Bebop is the ever changing tone present throughout, typically reflecting the film genre/directorial style the episode is paying homage to. The horror tones of the 'Fridge' episode (a homage to Alien) are off-set by the highly stylised 'Ballad of Fallen Angels' where the show apes action movies, while this episode has a wonderful Turner and Hooch type of tone to it. Having each episode use film genres/films/series as a basis for its plot allows for each episode to feel fresh and new. Genres are reused here or there but overall, the series feels fresh each time you view it.

please watch the movie in between the episodes. Timeline over release date...I would say watch it even earlier then when it is set, just to give yourself an episode or 2 before the final chapter to not be so jarred by the animation difference ect.
