In this video with the 1994 we fix the blinking d4 or drive 4 light. I also show you how to replace your ECU or TCM ... I of course call them everything but what they are! lol AMAZON Honda Accessories: amzn.to/3GURbTH

What symptoms other than check engine light and flashing D4 were you experiencing? Did you try resetting the ECU before replacing it?

There are several capacitors on the board. You can buy a repair kit if you are good with a soldering iron. But, yes I believe it will. Although, obviously I can't be 100% sure. (D or S). I assume D
@watershed44 Жыл бұрын
The actual cause within the ECU are dried out or leaking electrolytic capacitors. They are replaceable and it's cheap to do if you can use solder and a soldering iron.
@MyLooneyBin Жыл бұрын
I might take a look, I can solder alright. just have to find the replacement parts ... I miss being able to run down to radio shack!!

@@MyLooneyBin I'm really interested to see what you find with your project. About the only source for what you need is Mouser or Digikey. I hope you follow up with the results. Thanks.

Boy am I glad to see this! I was a hsm radio operator, followed by becoming a geophysics professor running an experimemtal lab. Found so many electronic equipment failures due to dead electrolitic caps that were easily fixed as you describe. Never thought about it in ECU's. Thanks so much for reporting this to us! It likely will save my beloved 1998 Odyssey from the scrap heap. Will let you know.

Did u change any solenoids b4 jumping to the computers?
@MyLooneyBinАй бұрын
no, I did not, new ecu corrected issue

Did you happen to pull the ecu fuse at any point between diagnosing the ecu and tcu? Wondering because im throwing a code 14 on the TCU end and a 4. The car doesnt shift out of park, when it does or use the key to manually slide it on the shifter console. While driving, car takes off in second or third in either D3 and D4. Parked now until i do more research and start swapping solenoids and ecu/tcu 🤦. Thank You!!
@MyLooneyBin Жыл бұрын
I did not, .. that problem definitely sounds odd? did you already replace the TCU? they are relatively inexpensive. ECU's are a bit more expensive
@mannynieto2110 ай бұрын
Just read your post. Your problem with it not shifting out of park is your tcu. I had the same issue.1992 honda accord... If un plug a good working tcu from the car you will not be able to shift out off park until you plug the tcu back. Hope it helps. 6:51

I have a code 14 on the TCU. The check engine light comes on and limp mode kicks in, then the d4 starts flashing. D4 doesn't flash right away when the key is turned... a little different from your symptoms here. Either way, it looks like the common fix is to replace leaky capacitors on the ECU board or replace it with one that is still good. Going to try both options, ordered caps and ECU. If I can pull it off by replacing the caps I'll return the ECU I bought. If I can't, or the board is too badly damaged, I'll keep the functioning ECU I bought and call it a day.
@MyLooneyBin5 ай бұрын
I am interested in what solution you find. either the ECU or TCM is what it sounds like
@Cloneme5 ай бұрын
@@MyLooneyBinI installed the “new” ECU/ECM and it ran fine, no codes and no limp mode. So I opened up my original ECU and saw that the C17 capacitor was completely shot and leaking all over the board. I removed it, cleaned it up, and soldered in a new one. No issues since. Might replace the other “caps” since they’re so old at this point and either they’re not running as efficiently as the day it was built or will start leaking and fail soon. It’s a lot easier to do than it sounds.

Are the ecm and tcm plug and play ??
@MyLooneyBin10 ай бұрын
yes, ... kind of ... you should disconnect your battery when replacing the unit. this triggers a learning process in the car (but technically I think it happens when you unplug the ECM. Technically any time the ECM or TCM loses power, it starts a relearn process

I have a 99 Honda accord and the code reader state I need a ecu but I was told that I had to get the ecu reprogrammed for my car and when they just switched them out the car didn’t cut on at all. So was it a bad ecu? Or it does have to be reprogrammed because it’s not a old model well the 94. Please any help
