Thanks for the review! A condenser microphone is actually the most common type for vocals in a studio setting. Dynamic microphones are actually used a lot for drums as well as guitar amps and such. In a live setting dynamic microphones are used pretty much exclusively because of the fact that they have a very narrow pickup field which reduces the risk of bleed and feedback.

I truly hope you reply, I plan on buying either this or the yeti pro as my first mic for my first home studio set up, which do you prefer? It depends on wether you will be screaming a lot or not. If you will be screaming a lot I would recommend a dynamic mic such as the shure sm58 because it can handle higher sound input.

The Blue Spark Digital has a much better shock mount. Although you can't mount the actual shock mount to a boom arm but it still is a great mount.

Why would you say yeti pro?

Confused as to what you mean when you refer to dynamic mics? A Condenser uses power (either phantom power or battery) (AKG C414 for example) and is commenly used in a studio environment. A dynamic mic (Sure SM58 for example) does not use phantom power and is commonly used in Live environment (but also studio).

Which one is good? Shure pg42 or Blue spark ?

I always thought about dynamic mics that they are best for live situations where lots of feedback needs to be eliminated and condensers are best for studio situations to pick up even the subtlest changes in voice. And dynamic mics are good for vocal and also for drums. Shure MS57 being one of the most popular one. Lots of drums are recorded with that and also Obama speeches are recorded with that. So I disagree with You about condensers not being best for vocal. I would say that condensers are best for vocals in studio (quiet) environment and dynamic mics being better for loud or noisy environments.

The Bluebird is essentially the very next step above the Spark. It's does all of the same stuff, but with slightly better quality. Also, it doesn't come with the stand and filter, so you will need to get those yourself. Overall, it's a better mic in every category, but it costs a lot more ($299 for mic alone), and in the end it all depends on preference. I would imagine there are people who prefer the Spark over the Bluebird and vise versa.

Hey Quinn, i don't pretend to know all their is to know about audio equipment like this, But what i can and will say is that the audio from this Spark Mic was fantastic when listening to your most recent video's, i did here a vast improvement to the overall audio experience, So in saying that $200 is not a lot to pay for a mic, I'm sure that you know already without me telling you, That this is very good for the price, Fantastic Ending to the video BTW, Loved the Drum's Part, ha ha :)

Yeti, the spark doesn't really justify the huge jump in price. Just remember you'll need to buy a shock mount and a pop filter for the yeti.

The spark is a good mic...But, the pop filter mount sux. The mount is single screw that screws to the mic... and it strips easy. Had to take it back twice. So I paid the extra $100 for the blue bird.

I'm sorry, did you just say that A condenser mic isn't as good for vocals as a Dynamic? I would beg to differ, sir. Of course, it's totally dependent on the voice type and the vocalist's style, but I would take a condenser over a dynamic on vocals anyday.

@Protocal477 Rap is a lot like spoken word microphone-wise, so it'd probably be great for rap. You'd just need a better pop filter.

There's no way a dynamic mic has better response for vocals than a condenser. You really cast this mic in a poor light by calling it entry level or semi pro. Price isn't as big an issue today, as quality control is MUCH better than it used to be.
