We are spending some time in the kitchen today! I recently harvested some ground cherries from our garden and I have been wanting to experiment with making a jelly / jam / preserve with them. It turned out so good! I hope you guys give it a try yourselves, let me know if you do in the comments.
Thanks for watching!

Wait!! why are some of your ground cherries green? Do I not have to wait until they are perfectly ripe and yellow? I was going to try making some ground cherry preserves but can I just use it like jam? Like maybe on some sourdough?? Listen - we've never even eaten ground cherries until we grew them this year. So I don't know what we're doing. Although, honestly I'm not sure we'll have enough to make preserves because I harvest them, put them on the patio table and then when I come back they're mostly gone (Clive and Jason enjoy a couple every time they go past). Please tell me more! Also, how long did you cook that ground cherry one do you think? And the sink faucet is amazing! I love that Better than Bouillon stuff. Also, not weird to wash hands after raw meat. Sushi and shashimi often contain raw fish that has been frozen (which kills bacteria) and you likely only eat it from places that follow good food practices and keep it clean, so it's cool. We've made sushi at home, but we don't do the raw fish kind. And the bacteria in fish is not the same as other meat, usually. Cheers, Colleen
@bluebirdhomestead
@bluebirdhomestead Жыл бұрын
Hey Colleen! Yes you can defiantly use the green ground cherries. I would not do all green however, maybe no more than 50/50. It would be optimal to have them as yellow possible though if you can. I was just impatient waiting fro them to yellow up. Once you add sugar and mash them up you can't tell the difference though. I cooked the ground cherries for about 10-15 minutes maybe. If you have a thermometer that would be best though because it all depends on how much you have and how big your pot is too for the cook time. Just stir it and check the temperature until it reaches 220 F. We have been eating it on toast and biscuits too ;) Thank you, if you can't tell we love our faucets and better bullion base haha. Good to know about the raw fish! I have never tried to make sushi before at home. How did you make yours? -Cara
