Hoping Kikuchi can consistently pitch like this all season! He turns 33 in June, so he might get a nice 3-year deal in the offseason, perhaps with options for another year or two.

Kikuchi is from the same high school as Shohei (Hanamaki Higashi) In fact Kikuchi is his senpai, and back in high school Kikuchi was already super talented, I remember watching a Japanese interview with Shohei, according to Shohei, he idolized this senpai back in high school. (by the time Shohei started high school Kikuchi was already about to graduate, but of course back then even Shohei probably didn’t know how much potential he himself possessed) I really like Kikuchi, back in NPB he was dominant, and still in MLB you can tell how crazy he can get when he gets into the zone. I don’t know if it was psychological issue or not, I really hope this season we can see him start turning things around and become consistent. Even during the off season I watched some Japanese analysts saying Kikuchi is actively making adjustments, and we may see him doing something different this season. I hope he can keep this momentum going.

I always liked Yusei even as a Mariner. The way he hides the ball is a complete mind f**k. Add to the fact that he can hit 98 mph and locate now… CY YOUNG if he can continue

I have a bad suspicion that BJ management will not renew the contract with Kooch. While I'll be disappointed, I won't be surprised. It will be another missed opportunity to see what could have been.

More important than adding in the curve was getting rid of that awful sinker. He had trouble locating it. When it was a strike it was down the middle and it was getting SMOKED! I started yelling at the TV for him to stop throwing the damn thing. A lefty with a 95-96 mph fastball is a rare commodity. Once he started throwing it more he became effective. Like Gausman during his last start vs the Yanks. Why was he starting them off with his out pitch? His forkball is effective down and therefore later in the count when the hitter has to expand the zone. Besides that no one was getting near his fastball!! Great start of the year for Kikuchi. Gausman started off the season like he was still in spring training. He will come around soon enough.

He was injured during spring training and they just had him rehab at training camp. 😊

I highly recommend you remove that Vladdy jersey off the wall, he is worse than mediocre, he SUCKS, and yes Kikuchi is kicking ass right now.
