A little while back my tachometer ceased to function. I tried to see if I could make the tachometer work again by performing simple, inexpensive tasks up to more complex and expensive tasks.
Theses efforts are chronicled in a four part series of videos. This video is part 4 of 4 and the last in the series.
I finally found success when I put in a replacement tachometer and it worked. Success proved that the old tachometer had finally failed after 43 plus years of service covering 374,000 miles.
Thanks for watching these videos. I hope you found them educational and a source for ideas into the future.

Mine has not worked for 20 years so today after viewing your four videos I'm going to go straight out to the workshop and getting to the the bottom of why it is not working, the pin numbers and what they do is the useful bit for me. Very many thanks from the UK,

Hi George, Thanks for the visit. I hope your efforts will be successful in getting your tachometer to start working again. If the tachometer needs to be rebuilt, Palo Alto speedometer repair has all the parts needed for full refurbishment. I am sure you can also find the service available in the UK and Germany for sure. Narrowed it down to US electronics and will now get that sorted will be nice to do that as it is useful when tuning the carbs but it packed up 20 odd years ago and I just lived with it. I'm giving the bike a birthday and it is up on the lift at the moment and separated from the sidecar to make life easier to do stuff like change the pushrod seals and tubes as they were rusty and leaking, thanks again. @@richardryer3412

Good to hear. Happy birthday to the bike. Mine turned 44 in May. Part of the family now. My speedo died many years ago and I used the tach for speed control. Both units have gone through Palo Alto and the instrument cluster is now like brand new. We're ready for another 250K. Good luck with the rest of the service.
