If you are trying to find the relay for the fuel pump on BMW e46 this is the right video for you. If the fuel pump relay is bad your car will not start. We demonstrated where the fuel pump relay is located on a 2005 BMW E46 330CI but it should cover the following models:

Better to check which relay it is yourself by starting car and feeling which one clicks, or taking 1 out at a time and trying to start car. I didn't and wired a kill switch to the wrong relay. My fuel pump relay was 2nd from the right, next to the orange one, different location to the video.

I have a 2006 325i, have replaced fuel pump…both fuses are good. Where the f is the relay? Glove box removed and no relays there. I’ve removed the 5 block fuse panel all good, just can’t find the relay. Light green, already purchased just can’t find???? Help

Did u find out? I having some issues with. My engine starts a little hard (delay) and runs badly (like in 3 strokes). On tester shows me faulty pump relay. But testing it my relay îs fine. I even change fuel pump and still same issue and error

Its actually the fuse in the middle just replaced mine and car started rite up and heard it prime soon as replaced that 20amp fuse

Same here on my 2004 E46 M3, convertible so I don’t these guys are correct or providing all the information needed as I believe the fuel pump relays are located behind the passenger side, trunk panel and there are two of them a black one and light green one.

My BMW e46 has a strange problem. When turned on, it works normally and runs quite well. Around 30 minutes later, the engine turns off and I can only start it again around 2/3 hours later. When it cannot start, there is no fuel in the system, there is a fuel cut. Could it be a relay?

Hi would a relay be the problem if my car is intermittently not starting. When I turn the ignition on and I hear the fuel pump priming after the whirring sound, the car starts no problem. Other times I turn the ignition and there is no noise coming from the fuel pump and the car does not start.

You totally ledt out a step. You removed a black plastic bar to get to the 10mm screw to pull down the white tray to reach the relays

WTF!! mine did this last night e46 328, been stood for 2 years, started it up, walked round to inflate the tyres and the engine cut off. We found the fuses and it just keeps blowing them everytime turn ign on. Disconnected the fuel pump, still blew fuse so not pump...back on it tomorrow, never done this before and now I see the vid...fuse in car does NOT blow, just one under bonnet, 20amp. UK

Something could be seized perhaps from from underuse, creating a high current draw, or the wrong fuse is used, or there is a short circuit perhaps from water ingress or a chewed wire from an animal.

@@dantheman1337 I found it eventually, the inlet cam CPS was just a piece of bare wire when I finally got to it, the fkn engine still ran though because it has two sensors!. It would not show a fault on a scanner, drove me nuts for 2 months. No one had a clue what was wrong with it......till I told them, then "everyone" knew what "would" of been wrong", fkn idiots

Please note: Make sure you also check the fuses inside the glove box in the event the fuses inside the engine bay are good and the car still won't start.

Easiest way is to test from the plug which connects to the pump itself (passenger side under the rear seat) you put your tester leads to the two upper left corner connectors and you should get voltage for a short moment when turning the key to final position.

@@Bemaritohtori how many volts should multimeter show , i have problem with my car e46 '99 m43b19 engine , i tested the plug under the seat and when i put the key in the ignition position it shows only 3volts and then goes to 0 .

lesafighter should be at least 12 volts for a few seconds then 0 volts

It might be the glow plugs need a clean or a replacement. Especially if it cranks slowly and the exhaust gives white smoke before its warmed up. Did you find a solution? I have the same problem.

@@bimmerfan2672 It might be the starter motor, mine was dead. Key signs of starter motor failure: -It slow cranks. Or, if it doesn't crank at all, it would slow crank when you used to start it. -You can push start/ hill start it and it starts up fine and runs smooth. It cost around £250 at my local independent garage to replace. It starts perfectly every time now, even in the cold. The starter motor can only be accessed from under the car, so its a bitch to do without the right equipment, but its not the end of the world and takes an afternoon.

@@eml9147 don’t think that it could be the starter…. The car just shut while giving a little bit gas to start from a traffic light…. I could start the car a second time, but as soon as i gave a little bit of gas and let go, the rpm are dropping slowly and the motor stops running! After that, I couldn’t start the car anymore

@@bimmerfan2672 Hmm. I'm no expert. But maybe something to do with the fuel? Ie fuel pump or fuel injector. Sounds like its stalling because its not getting enough fuel into it.

That's what I'm about to find out today after a bit I have a 01 330ci died doing 50. Checked the fuse in the 5fuse block it was burned so replaced it still nothing next it relay then pump wish me luck
