I am starting this week with the swap, hope to see the video before, this already helps a lot!. Maybe is it possible to share the raw footage already? Thanks for this video, this BMW is really well build to work on. I already replaced the gearbox on my R 1200GSA, that was way more pain in the ass, and way more work. haha

Hi Tijmen, thanks for your comment. I have a very big ride coming up this weekend, but I will try and get the second part of this video uploaded over the weekend mate. Thanks for watching. You may need to swap the original plastic gearbox cover onto the new gearbox if you are upgrading to the 1300s gearbox so the potentiometer hole centres are the same. If you are replacing with the same type of gearbox you shouldn’t have to make this small adjustment.

Where did you get the manual? I found a bunch of scetchy web sites when trying to find it. Great video by the way. I just bought a 2005 and love it! Just trying to fully educate myself on the ins and out. From tire pressure to rocker clearances

Hi Mac Sorry for the late reply. I ordered an online version. It was not the most user friendly manual, but it did allow me to zoom in on things. I will have a look on my laptop and get back to you on which version it was if I am able to. All the best with your bike mate. Stay safe, have fun. Thanks for watching my videos and commenting, I really appreciate it. Hopefully I will be getting back onto my own projects this week and will get back to uploading more content. Cheers Nuffy

Besides the plastic cover, the timing chain seems to be loose. Did you replaced the hydraulic chain tensioner? I am working to install a manual tensioner in replacement of the old original one. Thank you.

Soy for the late reply, and thanks for your comment. I’ve only owned this one and not sure I would be rushing out to buy another one unless it was new. I’m currently looking at a lot of bikes on the second hand market and I’m leaning towards the Yamaha MT10 or something from Kawasaki. BMW parts are expensive and often more difficult to get hold of - for me at least… The BMW engines seem to do really well for longevity with quite a few of the K1200’s exceeding 500,000 klm. Happy Hunting, all the best. Thanks again for watching and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.

What is the tool you used to brace the engine with at 9:55? You called it the big Bertha tool later on in the video.

Hi Simon, it was during Covid so I made a clutch holding tool out of 4mm plate steel. You can buy them online. If you have a welder and a bit of flat plate and 10mm x 10mm bar stock you can make it…. But a clutch holding tool is what you are after. Hope that helps. Let me know if you need some photos of the tool and I will email them to you mate. All the best Cheers Nuffy

@@nuffysbuilds3750 Thanx very much for that. I'll most likely buy one online as I've never tried welding and don't own a welder. My nephew may well do. If he has we could give it a go.

Mine had some metal on the drain plug but they appeared to be a bit finer than yours. How many miles on this bike?
@nuffysbuilds3750

Hi Paul, thanks for the comment. My bike has around 116,000 klm on it. The fact that the shift fork is so worn, I am told the amount I had on the magnet was ok. But, I will see how it looks on the next oil change. It seems to run better and better every time I ride it. They are just not designed to sit idle. Merry Christmas to you and your family mate.

@@nuffysbuilds3750 I hope it looks great on the next oil change. Picked my K1200R Sport up with 2,600 on it, 20k miles now. It's been clunky since day one. Heard this is just the way they are. Fingers crossed. Merry Christmas and Happy new Year to you and your family too my friend.

Hi Paul. Sorry for the late reply. The bike definitely has a clunk between gears. I am learning to rev match better between changes particularly on the upward gear changes. I think I can make some improvements, and will try to find some inexpensive remedies. All the best for the New Year. HAPPY NEW YEAR, I hope you enjoyed the videos so far

@nuffysbuilds3750

Hi Mehmet, sorry for not replying sooner. In my opinion, the biggest issues with these bikes are the electronics. Electrical or computer issues can be difficult to diagnose on older bikes, and expensive. Mechanically they are excellent. Most problems can be fixed at a reasonable cost with some general tools and basic mechanical skills. In most cases, you can buy a very capable bike for not too much money. It is the problem that many of us face, we don’t want to spend a large amount of money buying a new trouble free bike, so we have to compromise and get the best value for our money……. I think the K1200 is a great place to start looking. All the best my friend, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.

Hi. Very good job. What year is your K1200S? And from what year you got the K1300s parts from?
@nuffysbuilds3750
@nuffysbuilds3750 Жыл бұрын
Hi Kiryani, thanks for watching and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. My K1200s is a 2007, the 1300 gearbox came out of a 2009 K1300s. You MUST keep the original gearbox, because you will need the gear indicator piece off the original gearbox so the electrical plug is compatible. Very straight forward job to change. The 1300 gearbox is definitely a bit clunky compared to the 1200 because it is designed to have the quick shift setup. You just need to change gears quicker and it is best to preload the gear selector and just tap the clutch. Very smooth gear changes once you get used to the slight difference. All the best, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions at all. Thanks again Nuffy (Paul)

@@nuffysbuilds3750 Thank you for your quick answer and the details. I wasn't able to find a k1300s gearbox so I got one from a k1200s with 20,000 miles on it. Hopefully it will last a little bit until I find a better replacement. Great videos!

@@kriyani I think you will find the 1200s gearbox smoother and more enjoyable. Perhaps check the shift forks for ware before you put it into the bike. It should only take 10 mins to do the check, at such low mileage, I expect it will be great. All the best, stay safe, have fun and thanks again for checking out my channel it really is appreciated.
