740nm of torque?! Absolutely insane! This engine seems purpose-built for the Touring bodyshell; just love cars which have relatively dull exteriors combined with titanic powerplants. Understatement and discretion is always the gentleman's way forward.

@camryt for a more liniar power delivery. You could get the power/torque figures with probably just one turbo but it would have a huge turbo lag which would make it much less usable.

For examle a V8 engine has 4 cylinders at both sides. Twin Turbo are 2 turbo's in series to all 8 cylinders and biturbo is one turbo per 4 cylinders.

Thats not with all engines, its mostly with V8's, they dont give the most power and torque at really high rpm, but engines such as V10s and V10 do continue goving power to high revs such as 8000rpm

@secarianu It's always odd. The 116i, 118i and 120i all have 2 litre engines. They're like mercedes where numbers just give you an idea of the performance. Anyway, diesel is the way!!

I wish this car was available for the US market, only 2011 335d and 2011 X5. The problem with BMW of North America is that they're not going to have a vehicle which embodies a M Badge and throw in a Diesel and have a max MPH of 156MPH, however they will give you the option of buying the "M Sport Package" as with most of its vehicle line-up. I just wish that they would release to the American auto market more Diesel engines. I would also add that this M550d can use better M Wheels not standard.

I smell them, hear them and suffer them everyday because they are everywhere!! I wish in Europe there were as many diesels as in Japan or the U.S. lol.

A bi-turbo is basically when there are two turbos, one spools at a low rev range then at high revs the other turbo cuts in for most efficient power. As a result there is no ''turbo lagg'' most turbocharged cars have. ;D

I'm not a fanboy, I just love cars, good cars. I don`t care about numbers that much, I do care about the "feelings" driving the car, and all diesels feel like a tractor... I prefer a gasoline V8 over a tractor engine with three turbos because I enjoy driving. Maybe you enjoy saving some ridiculous money on fuel after spending thousands on the car. Do you?

i actually think its a really good car which comes exactly on the right timing. gas price is insane and diesel is a 'wiser' choice, but still u will smoke most gasoline car with those 720nm!\

Well, if you've ever been to the Netherlands, you'd know you CAN buy anything in the Netherlands, when you speak English. Dutch people speak perfect English so that's not a problem. About half of the country also speaks perfect German. But yes, our language is indeed the bridge between German and English.
