Excellent Video. You have the patience of a SAINT and did a great job of explaining as you went.

Thanks for the video.. I was able to skip taking off the fuel manifold. Instead I was able to just unplug the fuel line and that gave me enough clearance.

Thank you very much for your time to shared this video, it is very helpful. Not the best way to do it but it was very detailed and will give me a lot of confidence to do this job. Not done this job yet, hope I can finish it one day. My starter is still good. Thanks.

Allan Did you figure out the reason why it did not start after changing the starter? I'm having starter issues with my 2008 X5 3.0iS. Any help will be greatly appreciated anybody. Thanks!

Very nicely done. How long did it take you?

It seems like for ever 🤣, I did the repairs in about 8 hrs. It was the first time for me and because I couldn't find anything online that could help I desided to do the video, I had about 10hrs worth of footage and it took me an other 8 hrs to edit the video down to one our. It was a huge undertaking. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for the comments.

Greetings, I installed a new starter on my 2004 BMW X3 2.5. When i put back everything back together and turned the car ignition, it did not crank the car except it only made a clink, clink noise. Any ideas, would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Allan I'm not sure how the starter looks in a 2004, at the beginning of the video I show a way to check if is the starter motor will turn and also if you are getting power to the starter, don't know if you had the old starter checked were you bough the new one. My recommendations are first to have the old starter checked to see if it turns, then go trough the diagnosis steps detail in the video, Need to make sure it is the starter the cause of the problem, if it is the starter, then need to trace the connections you made, make sure all the clips are all the way in. Good luck, keep me posted with your progress. Thanks for the comments

Hello my friend why didn't you replace the manifold seals with new ones ? or torque the starter bolts?
@zumo54025 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments, I did replace the seals to the manifold, did not included on the video because there were videos on seals out there, I did not have a tork wrench, but I do recommend torking the bolts to the starter motor.

The dealers up here in Canada wanted $600 for the starter, $155/hr for a 3-hour job. So I said screw them, I'm a mechanic in the military anyways so I'll do it myself. Would rather have had someone else do it because at the end of the day, I'm too tired to do it myself. But I'm saving myself $1000 doing it on my own. The electrical component you removed from the right side of the manifold you didn't have to do. The small electrical cable going into it could be removed instead. Wondering why you didn't replace the 6 gaskets for the manifold. As well the tightening torque for the starter mounting bolts is 20 Nm and the bolts and nuts for the manifold is 15 Nm. Really good video though.

Jose, thanks for the comments, I'll keep the info in mind next time I have to do it, I did replace all six gaskets.

ZUMO any problems with the small damage to the rubber hose at the throttle body?
@zumo54029 жыл бұрын
+Jose Mendoza. I just damaged the rubber o rings to the injectors when I try to insert them with out any lubricant, the hose was ok.
@jpm46109 жыл бұрын
ZUMO I managed to do it without pulling the fuel rail and left the manifold moved to the side without removing it completely. Really appreciated your video.

why did you take the fuel rail off? How did you get the plastic electrical juntion box off?
@zumo54029 жыл бұрын
Hello John I took the fuel rail off because in my BM the fuel line going to the manifold was tight over the manifold and when I pull on the manifold it hit the line,(video time line 13.19) and I could not separate the fuel line from the fuel rail, it just made it easier to remove and re-install. The electrical box is being held by two #30 torks screws need patience for these two screws (video time line 46.25 to 47.55) to me they were the most difficult of the entire operation. Good luck. Let me know how you did. Thanks for the comments.

ZUMO got it. I am part way through and now I am debating removing the fuel rail. the connection is not coming apart for me and I don;t want to break anything. That electrical box, as you said is supposed to come off the metal tabs. Another brilliant BMW design that does not work. I went to the store and bought a ratcheting handle for the T-25 to get on that. Thanks for posting the video and responding.

ZUMO my car is a 2008. I got the starter form Autozone (142 plus tax and core), it is the same rebuilt one carried by the dealer (280) and the foreign autparts store nearby (205), It is the right one, I guess they updated the part numbers. Had to get the bolts at the dealer $16 plus for both
@zumo54029 жыл бұрын
John Murdock I have a 2007, there might be a few differences between the parts, are the new bolts also aluminum? you could not use the same bolts? just curious.
@johnm9489 жыл бұрын
ZUMO finished. the bolts are aluminum. short one goes in from the front long from the back which you cannot get a torque wrench on the BMW manual says 20 N-m with a plus 90 degrees on the short one and plus 180 on the long one. those torx bolts holding that bracket on were a major headache. that junction box should have been mounted to a body part. I disconnected the fuel line to the rail. It takes two people. bush the connector together and have someone else push the plastic insert towards the line. the injector did not want to separate. the new starter works better than the old one ever did. I bought the car used in 2010 with 37 k miles. the old starter was weak then I think

Sorry dude, your video is partially useless cuz half of the stuff(especially the cables underneath the IM) is not in the video. I'm just in the process of replacing the starter on my 2007 x3 3.0 si

CeCO Jr. This video does show everything in detail that I had to do to replace the starter on my 2007 X3, including all the wiring related to the replacing of the starter, I'm no expert on the BMW X3 and there may be other ways of doing the same thin. hope it helps. Thanks for watching
@cuneytmenekse99806 жыл бұрын
David Gil Look up the video "BMW 3 series starter replacement" from the user Nicoya. Different model but it's almost the same parts around the intake manifold, including the IM itself.
