In one of the most powerful interactions of the BizNews@10 conference, ’Kasinomics expert GG Alcock unpacks South Africa’s informal economy, booming entrepreneurship and out-of-touch government policies. He says this illustrates the massive disconnect between the ANC’s socialist beliefs and the capitalist evident everywhere in the country’s townships. It’s a wake-up call for the ANC leadership, its Blue Light Brigade whose distance from daily reality has caused them to act and legislate as though the country were still in the pre-1994 era. - Alec Hogg

The Stats Gen recently encouraged people to approach & challenge the unemployment rate calculation. Biznews, please have a debate between GG & the Stats over their formulae

This man is an extremely good man who genuinely loves his African people. How i wish we can get many of these kinds of people.

I would suggest major Tax reform not only in SA but everywhere. The simple tax system where your income is no longer tax - earn as much as you like. You are taxed only when you spend.

This economy is far more efficient in their use of capital than the formal sector. The state turns its Income every year or 2, the formal business sector faster, while these spaza shops every few days. This means ones profits are realised and reapplied much more quickly. Also the fact that there are no regulations to throttle their initiatives. In comparison to obtain a license for a food truck in Portugal it can take 5 years and it’s sewn up by a small coterie of people anyway. The informal sector in SÁ is thus the very opposite of socialism.
