Two star boar absolutely will break through these small fences when taming. I use house walls as taming enclosure, which have the additional benefit of breaking Line of sight.

If you are gonna use the name Boris, the mate should be Natasha… So I had just gotten Two Pens of Two Star Boar going, five pigs in each, mixed adults and piggies. I moved out the next morning to chop wood and hunt Deer/Birds. I hear all hell breaking loose, no Raid message. As I’m running back I hear the Stompy sounds of a Troll. I draw the Troll off and kill it, and return to see Broken Pens with hides & meat Everywhere. I was Pissed! As I cleaned up I thought, I’m Not going to start hunting Boar Stock today… As I walk around the outside of my base I find a Single Loose Two Star Piggy… Salvation!!!

I control my spacing when planting by adjusting my view to be just over and a couple meters back from my avatar, turn "Walk On" (C key, I think) and then while holding the cultivator and planting, the "next plant" will roll up and over the hit box of whatever you just planted, and wherever your carrot icon turns green, plant another one there. Works for all of the plantables so far (trees require a MUCH larger area 2m x 2m, I think).

I've always placed my Beehives right next to each other, touching. I place the first one just far enough away from a perimeter wall to make the bees Happy, then lay the others in a row to create a parallel line to the perimeter wall. It makes harvesting very quick and doesn't affect production. Although Honey plays a less prominent role now. I used to need 4-5 Beehives to sustain Honey. Now I need only 2 or 3 tops. It's weirdly coincidental that Kysen's Boars got attacked by a Swamp raid. Today I've been testing a method to use livestock farms to reduce damage during raids. It's complicated but it exploits the unusually high priority that monster targeting AI places on tamed animals that can be sensed but not seen behind walls and under roofs. So it entails placing a fully walled and roofed livestock farm to essentially switch off aggro for all melee monsters in the vicinity. I have still to test fully but all tests thus far, including 'A foul smell from the Swamp' raids, have worked as expected.

The pigs should of course be named Ask and Embla, the Adam and Eve of Norse mythology

Beehives can be put really close together actually. There's a yellow line that stick out of the front of the beehive. I'm pretty sure THAT is what determines the happiness. Also, beehives can be mounted on walls or in trees to provide better space management or aesthetics.

To get good spacing with farming I press c to walk which will give you the correct timing for spacing your farm plantings whilst moving don't try and run because that will break the walk. I had the lesson with raids and boars and now have the palisade around the boar pen. Monkey and Tripitaka.

I named my breeding boars "Boaris" and "Swynonna" because I like puns.

as a helpful hint, all you need to do is find at least ONE 2 star boar/wolf for breeding and bring a 1 star or even a base one to tame as well. once they breed they have a probability of random level being produced. once they pop out another 2 star, pull the food, let it mature, and slaughter all but the 2 stars and then setup the pen/breeding factory and BOOM...G2G! ~Sheist (Hi @Kysen) PS, Bacon and Betsy for their names :P

To help with the spacing I line to make a rectangle out of wood beams on the ground and cultivate it. The snap points on the wooden beam make a good guide for you to build up a grid

A good way to level sneak and protect crops early on is to have a trench around your farm then push a deer or something into it, then sneak when you're farming. Gets you into the habit of developing the sneak skill on a regular basis withot even thinking about it which is handy if it's not part of your build but may eventually need later raiding fuling camps etc.

My last solo playthrough, I had a large 2 star boar farm. 1 raid from the ooze things took all of them out. But, by then, I was on to barley farming and lox meat, so it wasn't a huge loss. On my wife and my current playthrough of H&H, she named our first two tamed Loxes Giggles and Tickles. Those are great pet names, IMO.

I hadn't made time to watch these till now... Bees are happy as long as their entrance is open to the air. Seriously, rotate them all the way around and there is one tiny hole on one "plank" that is difficult to see sometimes. I lost all my pigs to raids, yes, more than once. Freaking poison. (By the way, your tamed wolves will also find your tame pigs a tasty snack, as I recently learned... Sigh.) The best solution I have found is to have a dedicated large farm area away from my regular base containing only boars, crops, and central structure. I try to put the portal and structure in the very center (12x12 room with a fire, bed, workbench, forge and a few chests. We're talking rest buff, and to keep from porting out to repair, not a full base); then the pig stalls at the "four corners," crops on the outsides, wall the whole thing in stake wall/ stone. When I put the pigs along the walls, they can be poisoned, or panic from passing "wild animals" or enemies, besides, anything along a wall leaves it in log swiping range of trolls, etc..., but crops do just fine with a 1' boarder. With that server, when I get back to base, I have a plot where I plant one of some kind of seed at my main door as a timer to let me know when the plants were ready, if you have multiple farms, use different seeds or put a sign on the wall with which farm it indicates. It's a bit annoying to ferry stuff back and forth; but I don't spend a lot of time at the farms (I also have a plains farm, farm and windmill only, I HATE those mosquitos) - exploring, building, stocking my warehouse and workshops are where I spend time.

Had the skeletons from the swamp murdering my wolves I was taming over and over again. After about 5 attempts I finally got a pair of them and then a drake attacked the pen and killed them.

I mounted my hives right to the side of my building and there is no change to the amount or speed they honey is produced after hearth and home.

I designed a piggery with four pens where each pen is 4m x 4m. As long as pen is a minimum of 10m away from each other. So i have one square wooden building 18m x 18m and a pen in each corner. Because of the separation each pen quite quickly breed up 3piglets and then 3 boars. So you can cull 12boars (leaving a pair in each pen) and start the process again.

I have not yet reached the point of a "Foul smell from the swamp" coming to my base - the notion is terrifying, and it's coming next for me! *O.O* LOL Currently I have my hives in rows, they're close enough side to side that the little hay like bits on the tops are almost touching, with enough space that I can fit down the center between the rows, they all stay happy. I also have them on the 1x vertical bits for "stands", putting them on the ground didn't seem right, lol. I did have one nest I had to move after set-up, but it was too close to the small "shed" my workbench is tucked into. Tyfs! Best of wishes.

had my base perfectly setup for farming boars and various seeds. Out of nowhere I get raided 3 days in a row by drakes and they slaughtered and nuked my entire farmstead. Almost uninstalled lol. Found a new base, got everything set up, found wolves to tame... They broke through my iron walls and proceeded to run over and slaughter my entire boar farm. Fun times...

There was a talk where the creators stated that boars do not spawn more near the runestones about boars. There might be a bit more initially to get the point across, but after that the spawn rate is the same as anywhere else boars spawn and apparently it has no effect - or at least had no effect when they did that interview.

Just need to dig a quick trench around your fenceline for your farm or raise the ground around it and it should be fine for raids

When I looked up updated info on keeping mobs from spawning, another guide said a workbench needs to be sheltered. Having one in the open won't stop spawning.

I've seen beehives say they need more room if you place them so close to each other that they are touching. I haven't tried this since hearth and home came out.

I had a boar escape the pen, I'm still not sure how. It then proceeded to sneak in and out of my house, so my daughter named it Sneaky. It was her favorite. I still haven't told her that it died during an event raid because I know it will crush her.

I had my 15 (2 Star) boar wiped out by a tree wielding troll the other day while i was working late chopping trees. They made a huge change to raids in H&H. RIP piggies.

Beehives have always been a go or no go, either too close or not. They have always produced one honey per day.

The only problem I've had with beehives was just putting them too close to a wall, I've heard that boar farming isn't a thing anymore (since these are a year old). I just got 2 1star boars last night and then was watching a video from drspicy and he made his video about 11 months ago and he was saying his boars weren't breeding. Maybe he did something wrong but I'm still gonna give it a go and see if it works since i do have the 2 1stars, just need to let my second tame this afternoon after work.

What you forgott to mention: you only need 1 **Boar. 50% of the piggys will be **. so for the next generation just keep one of them for breeding. Also I protect my farm, like my base, with a moat. A fence will not protect against a troll...

It's been ages since I'm trying to tame a two star boar, but just can't find one!!! :( I've been to diferent runes during diferent time frames and there are no new respawns... what should I do? i'm a little late to the party but i have started my 3rd game and made it to the iron age for the 2nd time. i started a boar program in my last game before i lost everything. i started another in the new game and found 2 one star boars straight away. found a 2 star but he ran away and died. was out and about and found another 2 star and bred him with the 1 stars and got some 2 star babies. well then some inbreeding started to occur when the 1 stars were all slaughtered.

You only need one 2 star boar since its Babys can also be 2 star even if the other Parent has no star.

I mean, you expected this right? Why not put the boars inside the base's fence? I mean I build a moat and the boars and I sleep inside the moat. Just saying. I will add though that the boars can be finicky it seems if they are right against the home, but I did finally get the unhappy boar to tame. I wish I could see the 30% tamed without scaring the boar.
