Bob Dandridge : The Greyhound Was One Of The Best Players Of The 70's

This is a journey back through Bob Dandridge's Hall of Fame career. Bob Dandridge was an elite defender who took on tough matchups yet could get you a bucket in clutch moments. While always being around winning teams. Where he would win two NBA championships to go along with being four time all-star, an All NBA Team player, and All Defensive Team player.

Bob Dandridge was basically the Kawai Leonard of the 70's (minus the injuries and basically being the face of the load management era 🙄). Great 2-way player that was quietly a championship winning level difference maker. Much like the modern era where Kawai had to compete against bigger names like prime LeBron and Kevin Durant, Dandridge had to compete against prime Dr J and George Gervin. But Dandridge not only held his own, he was even able to outplay them on any given night, especially in crucial playoff series.

Ehh great underrated player for sure but kawhi is better on both ends... but I'd definitely take Dandridges availability over kawhis ability on the right team... he's maybe a guy who could be a second option on a championship team or contender... but I think him as a third option with a center and PG being the first and second option (in no order) but tremendously underrated cause people don't really know basketball other than current shit or whenever they first got into ball and don't appreciate or understand the guys that don't get much recognition from past eras

I went to college at Norfolk State in the 2000s and we'd always hear stories about the legend of Bob Dandridge. Glad to see him get his flowers while he's still living, that hall of fame selection was a proud moment for all Spartans.

Nice job. Greatly underrated player. His full impact isn't shown by his stats because he was a great defender and super clutch. Almost always outplayed Dr. J. and was, in my opinion, the MVP of the Bullets' championship.

Bobby D! Did you see how many “swishes” on perimeter shots he had? Also, a little detail which means a lot: he would NEVER bring the ball down to waist level or below. He would keep his hands up always. He must’ve received excellent coaching at a young age.

I started following the Bullets while living in Japan and Elvin was my favorite player until I returned to the U.S. in 1977 and recognized that Hayes had many flaws. In contrast, Dandridge could do it all: shoot, post-up, rebound, pass, hit the big shot and lock down stars with defense. Smart, clutch and underrated.
@Amick44

Couldn't have said it better. Dandridge's solid overall game masked Hayes' and Unseld's shortcomings. They do NOT get a title without him. He fit in beautifully with Kareem and Oscar at Milwaukee and honestly, was the top dog at Washington.

As a teenager, there are no words in the english language to discribe the hurt you experience when your home team gets swept in 2 championship series. The bullets needed a two- way all-star small forward to compliment Hayes and Unseld. Dandridge was finally the missing link that bought it all togather. Still think the Bullets sjould have won that 2nd championship in 79, but we will take it. Love you Bobby D. Best wishes.

Bob Dandridge was the X-Factor on two different 70s champs. On the Bucks he outplayed some great small forwards despite an offense heavy on half court play. In Washington he was the release valve against teams that stacked defenses against Elvin Hayes. In the mid 70s, the Three Bobbys - Dandridge, Jones, and Gross all contributed to championships despite being third or fourth options on underrated teams.

Bobby Dandridge was an all-court player who could do everything well. Even with Elvin Hayes and Wes Unseld, the Bullets did not win an NBA championship until Bob Dandridge joined the team. Bobby Dandridge definitely is one of the best NBA players of the 1970s.

You have to mention that Pee Wee Kirkland #44 in the first Norfolk State pic was the leader of that team so good that John Wooden offered him a spot at UCLA Pee Wee eventually left school 🏫 because he was selling dope and money superseded basketball as he was offered a contract by Thw Chicago but he made more money selling dope Pee Wee would no doubt be a hall of fame PG had he played. Bobby D was nice when he went to the Bullets he got busy and they won a chip..

@richardoconnor8984 Ай бұрын
Yes, he was. Davis was mistakenly given the nickname his rookie season (77-78) by Suns broadcaster Al McCoy. Dandridge had been given the same name years earlier by the Bucks play-by-play man for his ability to run the court. One played in 4 championships winning 2 and is in the HOF. The other has none of these accomplishments. The Greyhound goes to Dandridge.

@elindioedwards7041 Wouldn't compare the two, and my interest in seeing a piece on Davis should not have been construed as a comparison. Dandridge was a small forward. Walter Davis was an agile, 6'6" shooting guard, molded in the way of the modern-day NBA two guard. Fast, smooth, with a deft shooting touch from deep.

I admire your efforts in talking about players from generations outside of your realm but your story telling is off first you mentioned Dandridge and Jabbar being a duo while showing Oscar Robertson in the highlights and then you go on to mention Robertson. Truth be told Jabbar and Dandridge were never thought of as a duo it was Jabbar and Robertson who were the duo and Dandridge was a complimentary piece and secondly you mentioned the Bucks playing the Washington Bullets, while Robertson was still playing and that’s wrong because at the time they were the Baltimore Bullets heck even in the highlights as you refer to them as Washington the screen is showing Baltimore smh please do better but until then I revoke my subscription
