Hey I really need your help here. I've looked everywhere on youtube and couldn't find anything so i came to you. I have a full choke that says lead shot only for my 12 gauge Remington. What would happen if I were to shoot steel shot out of that choke? Say 1 shot for geese. Or even lower? Would it be bad to shoot maybe steel 6 shot for pheasent?
@edwardseaton29023 жыл бұрын
It weakens the barrel , can bulge the barrel over time .....its fine every so often But you'll need a new barrel soon lead is way softer than steel
@johndoeglogloku53334 жыл бұрын
Guys remember this ... mod=full for steel and IC =mod for steel . Steel patterns tighter than lead so don’t be afraid to open your choke . Don’t be scared to use a skeet choke for ducks I guarantee you’ll hit more , all it takes is one shot pellet
@colt10mmsecurity6811 ай бұрын
So true! And unless you choke is made for steel, do NOT go any tighter than a modified choke for steel. Otherwise you’re causing unnecessary stress on that choke with the steel shot. Beretta chokes for instance state right on them “ok steel” or “no steel.”
@brookeremler91705 жыл бұрын
Great video Bobby! Another useful piece of info for anyone looking through the comments is that if you have a full choke, for example, it will throw a tighter pattern with larger shot like T, F, and BBB. With smaller shot the pattern will open up more, especially near the upper end of the operating range list by the manufacturer, pattern your ammo and choke combo to see what I mean. Also keep in mind that if you're looking for a new choke be sure to read disclaimers like max shot size and speed, some of the extra-full chokes designed for steel shot can only handle shot sizes no larger than BB and speeds less than 1550 fps. I know reading sucks but, but so does using a pair of vice grips and a 4' pipe to try and unscrew your choke tubes after they bulge. Best of luck to everyone in their upcoming season!

Just until last year, I always stressed out because I couldn't figure out how much lead I need on a bird. But as I started practicing more, I realized it becomes a muscle memory. I could shoot a bird, then 5 seconds later I couldn't tell you how far in front I was aiming. So shoot often is probably the best tip you gave

For those who teal hunt, federal makes these shot shells called “UPLAND STEEL” #6 shot for $8 a box and it hammers the teal and even some of the bigger divers at 0-40 yds

Hey there my man . Hope all is good . A quick run-down on chokes , Turkey super full-.660 , Full-.690 , Imp Mod-.700 , Mod-.710 , Imp Cyl-.720 , Cyl-.730 . The .700 is Imp Mod choke , when used for lead , then when used for steel , it becomes a full choke . Just passing on some info . Vids are awesome as allways .

Bobby you are EXACTLY right on the choke and the size of shot for ducks and geese!! The denser the pattern the more pellets on target you get along with more energy converted to the intended target. I LOVE LOVE 1 SHOT for geese with the Carlson cremator long range and use it for mid season ducks here in Colorado. I do have to say to those trying different shells pay attention to the velocity of the shells! I'm a fan of 1 1/4 ounce loads at a higher velocity over heavy loads at a lower velocity. Learn to shoot that shell if that makes sense. For dove I shoot 8's and 9 shot with a mid range Carlson. When I use my 20 ga I use a light modified with 1 ounce shot 8's or whatever my store has as long as they are 1200 fps so it doesn't affect my leads as much.

I bought a new Beretta A400 extreme plus. Bought 4 different boxes of shells. Kent, Heavy Steel, Winchester and Federal Blue box. Federals patterned the best at 30 yds and that's what I'm running in my gun.. Since I just got it last month I've been shooting clays in Central Iowa and took it to KC to shoot a Sporting clays course. Bobby's dropping knowledge on you.. Find what works best for your gun and go with it and practice, practice, practice.

@enteriowasoutdoors80145 жыл бұрын
An aftermarket choke like a carlsons cremator or a patternmaster wont kill more birds if you're a marginal or bad shooter..they will actually cause you to miss more....the technology used to strip the wad from the shot whilst still in the tube will make your shot column shorter both making your pattern more dense but will also make you either hit your target really hard with alotnof pellets or will cause you to miss completely. A regular choke will give you those back pellets as somewhat of a second chance. Aftermarket chokes like the cremator will make a better shooter not have as many wounded birds...but a marginal shooter will see alot more misses

I can't say I've ever filled a duck or goose with too much shot for the table... But squirrels and grouse you can bust up pretty easily. Upland game shotsize/choke doesn't correlate to waterfowl. Upland you're sprinkling through trees to whack a weak animal. Waterfowl, paint it on thick and you'll still have a nice dinner.
