Those LED lights are nice and are needed but being here in Canada the best thing I ever did for seeing in snowy conditions was to get amber coloured fog lights. They cut through the snow and reduces that wall of glare that comes back at you by 50%.
@GibsonB4512
@GibsonB4512 6 ай бұрын
Don’t you find they’re not hot enough to melt the snow that accumulates on them? Even the new LED traffic signals they installed here in Winnipeg are useless during a snowstorm as they’re now covered in snow and aren’t visible at all!

@@GibsonB4512 Its a trade off at times. Regarding LED lights and amber coloured lights specifically. For the most part I find I am not frequently driving in a significant snowfall and the lights are 100% positive for winter and summer for avoiding deer and animals. However there are those times when I take a road trip in the winter to visit family 6hrs north or driving 30 miles back home from work and a flurry is unavoidable. When snow storms come up and LED lights get snow build up I will pull over a few times to dust them off. That being the case it is still worth it. I would rather be able to see well for 15 to 20 miles in those random snowstorms than be crawling like a snail white knuckling the steering wheel without them and having the mesmerizing glare of a wall of snow like star trek warp speed coming at you. So at the end of the day, from my experience, the positives in general everyday varied conditions outweigh any of the negatives or inconvenience of pulling over and dusting lights off a few times if needed. It is better having them to compliment your regular lights then not having them. The same as having winter tires over all season or all weather. It is a pain swapping tires every season but the difference a good set of winter tires make is way worth it. The best people to ask are the professional drivers. I have 4 long haulers and one oversized hauler in the family who drive in mountains and up to Alaska border. I try to follow their advice for winter driving. Their advice on amber coloured lights for cutting glare in rain and snow made a world of difference.

End burnt drill bit: SLOW DOWN the RPMs the bigger the diameter. 1/4” is the absolute largest for the higher speed, and that’s on the threshold. On three speed, I’d use medium for 1/4 and low speed For larger. Saves your bits and actually cuts faster!

Hey Robby! A great tip to make the windshields and windows on Whiskers break proof/resistant, is to replace the glass with "Aircraft Grade LEXAN"! It not only is lighter and vibration/crack resistant, but way stronger than glass, and won't crack or chip if hit by stones or tree branches. Love watching all your videos, Thank You!

A few things, the "slag" left from the plasma table is actually called Dross. Slag is from welding processes and Dross is from cutting processes. Dross is the parent material that reattached, where slag is a foreign material. Next, if you want to drill plasma holes you need to anneal the material, that's why all your bits dulled out. Lastly, hillbilly is drilling too fast, also why bits are dulling and why it broke in the front of Whiskers. Set the drill on speed 1 for making holes.
@mikerubynfs
@mikerubynfs 6 ай бұрын
That's fitters for you push as hard as possible and as fast as possible, then wonder why is smoke coming from the drill and the bits are breaking? Even worse where I work we have a lot of stainless, that just hardens up if you go too fast and too hard. I have holes saws I've been using for years, won't lend them to a fitter, electrician speaking.

FYI, from previous experience, those lights on top MAY put a helluva glare on your windshield. You may have to move them back. I also would remove that amber beacon and install a REAL amber rotator with side lights off a tow truck. Why? Cause it looks cool at night 😁 (EDIT) OH, and also a remote spotlight on top helps at night too. Spendy but WELL worth it!

Yes a huge light bar off a heavy wrecker tow truck with lots of rotating lights would look awesome. And I agree move the light bar back a little from the front so that it doesn't directly light up the windscreen.

I enjoy watching Robby, Hillbilly et al creating and fabricating and solving problems. They are a cheerful bunch and work hard too. I also enjoy reading the comments and when you see the same advice repeated by lots of different people, you get a good idea that the advice is solid. It wouldn't have occurred to me put the light bar on the front of the roof about 15cm back sot that it doesn't create glare on the windscreen. That is really useful advice. Another thing was using a slower speed on the drill when drilling holes so that the bit lasts longer and keeps the heat to the minimum. All good stuff and it makes reading the comments really worthwhile and useful!

I'm not a fan of lights on top of the cab. If it's snowing or in dusty conditions, lights on the top of the cab tend to blind you more than help you see because the snow or dust will reflect the light back at you. I learned that a few decades ago, when I had some KC Daylighter lights on a lightbar on top of my truck's cab. Driving down the road, one snowy night turned on the overhead lights, and all I could see was the snow. Turned them back off, and I could see to drive then. A lot of people believe amber lights work better, which I agree with somewhat, but I believe it's not as much as the color as it is the light brightness. Amber lights aren't as bright as clear lenses therefore, they don't reflect as bright of light back. What I've found works the best is getting the lights as low as you practically can, gives you the best visibility with the least light reflected back into your eyes. On an offroad vehicle that endes up being a compromise of high enough, they are protected but low enough where they reflect back the least, which is usually just above or below the bumper. That's just my opinion based on over 40 years of offroading and driving in snowy condition.
