They clearly couldn’t have both dogs, and not everyone is capable of handling a dog with behavioral issues. It’s a bad situation all around but at least they found a safe place for him with a family member instead of dumping the dog, taking him to a shelter or euthanizing him. They also said they were open to trying to work with the dogs so they get along, but bringing the recovering puppy back into a home with the dog that nearly killed it would be a disaster waiting to happen.

@@lesbodactyl Yeah, I deleted my response because I hadn't watched all the way through. My bad. I'm not a big fan of people getting small dogs when they have large powerful dogs in the house. What would be a minor incident with a similarly sized dog can be catastrophic, as was the case here. I worked at a shelter and saw it a couple of times and also have a good friend who's Shih Tzu was killed by her very nice pit/lab puppy after a beef involving the little dogs favorite toy. @@lesbodactyl Hard to say with no info, but I don't think its even a behavioral issue. Judging by the way there were no puncture wounds the mastiff wasn't even going for the kill or even trying to hurt the pup. Muzzle biting is how dogs correct puppy rudeness, if it were another mastiff puppy with a more naturally shaped face he probably wouldn't have done any damage at all. She set up poor Diesel and the pup to fail here. If he'd gone for a true bite out of aggression, the pug wouldn't be alive.

@hallykat6402

I came here to comment something similar. The lady should’ve given the puppy to her sister. It’s not Diesel’s fault that his human chose to bring in another dog into the pack without checking to make sure they’d get along. Sure introducing dogs to each other is usually quicker and easier than introducing cats to each other but that doesn’t mean the human should assume that all dogs will get along with each other. This is why I have all the feels for Diesel and the little pup & not for the human.

I’m torn on this one. She didn’t put Diesel down, and she did give him to her sister, so hopefully he’s content. Without knowing the full backstory of diesel (has he been repeatedly problematic? Is he getting old and senile?) I’m trying not to be too judgmental, but I’m always aggravated by pet owners who just add a puppy and get rid of the older dog. Some people really don’t think before they act. 🤦🏽‍♀️

@@charbri_8855 wow. You can speak to animals and therefore know what they think? I adopted an 8 year old dog named Jax. He spent the first six years of his life with a man who suddenly passed away . After that, for 2 years, he lived in a dog kennel, being taken care of by a group of people. When my 15 year old dog passed away, I was asked if I would take Jax. I agreed. Skip ahead a few months and one of the people that took care of Jax showed up at my house and just walked in the door. Fortunately I have wood floors and Jax wiped out running around the corner to bite the ‘intruder’ for walking into my house without warning or invitation. He was very shocked to discover how quickly Jax had bonded with me and now protected me. Dogs develop relationships with people, no matter their age. Diesel may be much better off where he is now, because his “original” family selfishly got a puppy, knowing they had a senior mastiff. You are literally attributing human emotions to a dog. Dogs remember people, but move on and form new attachments.

Our family had a beautiful orange tabby many moons ago who had been in a fight and his tail was hanging off at his bum. The vet had to go two vertebrae into his bottom to remove his tail. He was so funny looking for a while cause his shaved bare little bum cheeks as he moved made us giggle. Once his fur grew back in you couldn't even realize his tail was missing as he sat regally. Twas only when he got up n walk away did you realize his tail was missing.

The title made me want to cry. I remember very vividly when I was about 8. We had two cats at the time. I'd woken my mother up, it was the weekend and we were going out to the zoo that day. Cat went bolting down from sleeping with her upstairs and I shut the door as he did. I turned around and catch heaps of fur and droplets of liquid turning into a proper trickle just down the short hall. And I follow it and the cat from upstairs has sprint onto my sleeping sisters bed with the tip of his tail hanging on by a flap, bone exposed. I didn't wake her up I turned around and just cried to my mother. His tail had lagged behind and jammed in the door. Luckily, he only lost the tip of his tail.

This makes me feel happy and at the same time sad especially when the turtle had rubber on her neck. Pollution is a big deal for animals and to us too it always leads to a disaster that was unusual to see. However, this is not the end there is plenty of time left so we can help our nature to bring back its former beauty. Look, Doctors are our heroes and Vets are animals' heroes and we are the heroes of our nature.

I love all these stories. The poor cat reminded me my cat Hershey. She was an amazing cat, but definitely dealt with her problems her own way! When she was spayed she came home, walked across the living room, sat down and gave me a dirty look, and immediately reached down and snipped out every one of her sutures, spit them out, stuck her tail in the air and walked away. I immediately called my vet, but when he asked what the incision looked like, he said if she doesn't bother it she should be fine. She never touched it after the sutures were out. Then she got her tail caught in the door. It made a little cut that she wouldn't leave alone. I called my vet, and he said tape it. Well, Hershey wasn't having that! Sometime during the night she escaped her cone, removed the tape, degloved her tail tip down to the bone, and greeted us the next morning like "hi guys, where's breakfast? " Well, that meant surgery. A little half inch ended up as a low inch amputation. But she had such a long tail, no one ever believed she had lost part of it! She was a great cat! I had her for 19 years.

I agree. Now I don't know if they did any introductions between the two before actually getting the puppy home, but if not then that's a real shame. Not all older animals take well to a new addition. I've had to introduce several guinea pigs over the years, and some just didn't work and I had the fortune to be able to switch with the breeder for a new one (thankfully only had to do that 3 times over several animals). I somehow can't help but think that maybe they got the puppy and just "plopped" it down without any proper steps between it and the older dog. And I really feel bad for the older one, this could give it depression and anxiety for all they know, even if they visit it often. They should have given the puppy to the sister. For me it gives the impression that they care more about the small and cute, and not the old and loyal.

You know you can simply KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR TINY PUPPIES right? It isn't the big dog's fault for your negligence and ignorance. You can step in and separate them when the fight starts or simply have them never be alone once until the puppy is grown enough to defend itself. It's not hard to be a responsible pet owner...

I mean.... 1 - the puppy will take to the change better than an older dog. 2 - The older dog was with you for all this time. Through your ups and downs. The good and bad. You don't even know the puppy all that well.... But you're abandoning the dog that's been your best friend for a cute puppy just because.... Why? Because the dog is old and "not fun/cute anymore." 3 - That dog will live the rest of its twilight years wondering why you left it. It will never understand what went wrong or why. 4 - SERIOUSLY. WHAT. IS. WRONG. WITH. THESE. PEOPLE. Ultimately irresponsible, no loyalty, and ignorant. Do some freaking research. SMH.

I can understand Unluck's situation. My Zoey had her tail degloved by the wheels of an office chair. We tried our best to save what was left but this is not easy to do because of the way cats swing their tails. My mastiff mix had her tail degloved the exact same way. I don't recommend those chairs for any home with pets. Absolutely gorey. I was at work when it happened. Obviously I rushed home when my roommate called. Walked in to my dog furiously wagging her mangled tail because she was so happy I was home. We had to repaint, and replace a sofa because we didn't clean up until we got back from the pet ER. She managed to keep the tail.

Lucky, with a much more severe recliner injury, was a lot more stoic about it all. What a brave little fellow.
