In this recipe for Bengali vegetable chop (sometimes called beet chop or veg cutlet), we recreate the popular and beloved Kolkata street food. The main ingredient of this easy Bengali veg recipe is beetroot, which lends the chop its characteristic vibrant maroon colour. Besides that, this recipe also uses a unique blend of spices. Follow this video to learn how to make a Kolkata-style vegetable chop of the perfect texture and flavour.
Bengalis look forward to nothing more on winter evenings than a batch of hot-off-the-oil fried snack and a cup of sweet, milky tea. One such snack is the delicious (may we even say nutritious?) Kolkata-style vegetable chop. Best championed by patrons of roadside shacks, ‘telebhaja dokan’, and cabins, this popular and easy-to-make Bengali vegetarian snack is enjoyed with a simple salad of onions and cucumbers, and a dollop of kasundi. Full of the goodness of the seasonal beetroots and carrots, both of which are winter vegetables in Bengal, the vegetable chop (or veg cutlet) is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and rather sweet to taste. It is a landmine of flavour and texture, which come from the veggies, spices, and nuts used.

i am also from south but yes married to a Bengali person. So i must say bengali recepies are really tasty but underrated . The people from bengal are not that good at coming of the state and promoting their culture. i have seen the mentality of ppl their. They are most talented but fail to promote themselves basically they dont have growth mentality . In kannada we say “ moond barod illa awrige ashtralle those ppl are happy“

Please tell me how did you Fry them straight from the Freezer...what heat level for oil and how many mins? The video says keep heat low if frying frozen chops but I think the cold Chops will turn the oil temp down anyway..so slightly Confused...

In US, getting authentic Bengali veg chop is really a big deal ! While few home based caterers try to do it, the taste is not fulfilling. At a time when the world is reeling under the threat of Corona - your video inspired me to cook after a long time and by God - my whole family (including me :) ) was really amazed! The outcome is really cool - though I would prefer to be totally veg with veg chop and so used water and cornflower for the coating. Nevertheless, the taste was wonderful! Well done! Keep up the good work! .
