Yeah Harri, she can break your heart. I have 21 of Bonnie's solo albums and countless collaborations. She's on of the best slide guitarists in the world, a superb blues writer and singers. In a word THE BEST.

Bonnie wrote this song after seeing an news program about a Olivia Zand who met her donor who received her son's heart. She was so moved she wrote this song.🙏🙏❤️❤️ I cry everytime I hear this song because I am a recent liver transplant recepient post 23 days. ❤❤❤

She'll be 74 in a couple weeks and still sounds the same (voice is a little deeper) as the first time I heard her in 1971.

The story of the song was inspired by a true story Bonnie learned about in the media. From the Wiki: In an interview with American Songwriter, Raitt explained that her initial inspiration for the song came after she saw a human interest piece on the news in 2018 about a woman who donated her deceased child's organs and was meeting the man who received his heart. The segment moved Raitt to the degree that she was compelled to write a song about the selfless act, noting "I just lost it. It was the most moving and surprising thing. I wasn't expecting it. I vowed right then that I wanted to write a song about what that would take. Every time I hear about a family donating organs when their child has been killed, or there's some sort of sudden death - as if you're not in grief and shock enough - to have the view and the compassion and the love to be able to pay it forward like that is so incredible"

It made me cry the first time I heard it and has every time since then. It's not only the sorrow of losing a loved one but it affecting your whole life with sadness until finally achieving peace or "grace" as she says.

So many wonderful artists were discovered there; Linda, Jackson, Elton, Eagles to name just a few. I have often thought that Bonnie Raitt never received the acclaim she really deserved. Bonnie is indeed a TREASURE, a musician's musician, so much heart and soul in her music.. but she "outdid herself" with THIS amazing song! As others noted, such a hard-working musician that didn't often get much of the recognition she deserved, so what a TREAT to see that look of complete SHOCK on her face when she won THREE Grammys re: that album/song! The title track from her 18th album, " Just Like That" from 2022, this song was inspired by the loss of Bonnie's dear friend John Prine. She said she was carrying a piece of him in her heart. ❤ Told in the perspective of the grieving Mom, the lyrics are so sad and breath taking at points, that Bonnie delivers beautifully. Bonnie was clearly SHOCKED to hear her name called when they announced she was the winner of the Song of the Year Grammy. She had zero expectation of winning considering she was competing against Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Adele.

This sounds beautiful, great storytelling, and I love when the story is told not another word is added, just an outro that leaves you to sit with what you just heard.

To hear her voice at its peak, listen to Takin My Time, Three Time Loser, Gamblin’ Man…ballads are ok but she can really belt out a hardcore blues tune.

The fact that this is the title track from her 2022 album and a Grammy winner clearly demonstrates that Bonnie Raitt has lost none of her fantastic skills. Ms. Raitt shows us in the first stanza and refrain how the deep the pain ("no knife can carve away the stain, no drink can drown regret") such a loss must hit the survivors of a death of a child, particularly if there is any chance that the survivor could feel responsibility for the death, however unintended it may be. But the redemption found in the second half of the song is as overwhelming as the pain is in the first half. "Just like that, your life can change, look at what the angels send" is followed by something that lifts the hardest of hearts. Bonnie Raitt's "Just Like That" gives you a full daily ration of all three. A lot of songs have meant a lot to me over the years, but this song has a special place of honor for me: someday, I hope to visit my Olivia Zand, for I know that there is someone who lost a son, a brother, or a lover in early April 2015, and his heart beats in my chest now.

Seen Bonnie 5 times. I am still waiting to be disappointed. At 5.40 and onwards you can feel the pain in the voice, brilliant.

I don't listen to very much "modern day" music, but this song hit me like a ton of bricks. Such pain and then joy. She saw or read about a situation like this one and it touched her so deeply she felt impelled to write a song about it. No frills, just a stripped back beautiful love story. Well done, Harri! I see you talk about happy songs a lot, when you are covering blues and sad songs. For me happy songs are easy. Yes, there are great ones, but most are a dime a dozen. It’s easy to share happiness. But the best songs hit you deep. Even if you haven’t experienced that pain, a really masterful song conveys it, and that is perfection. Much harder to share pain than happiness. So when a song like this makes me feel so much, it makes me happy. Thus, sad songs that really move me make me happy!

The writing style in this song is surely influenced by John Prine. Several lines remind me of some from his songs. I have been a fan of Bonnie since 1974. Have seen her in concert about five times. But to be honest this recording is okay but nothing special to me. And if this song won a Grammy it may be a reflection on the current state/decline of music.
