Library sales are amazing from what I've seen. I have yet to attend one myself . You got some great books for just $7. I'm going on a no buy until next year come July 1st. My TBR is soooooo huge right now.

I wish my library sales were like yours! I didn't get the hoopla over Drown. The only reason it's still on my bookshelf is because it's a 1st edition I bought at full price in '96 when published; maybe one day I'll recoup my money. Did enjoy Oscar Wao however . I love Thiong'o. I never read The River Between but one of the most beautiful and haunting novels I've ever read was his Weep, Not Child. Michelle Cliff is a hit or miss for me but I did like Abeng, of which No Telephone to Heaven is the sequel to. I read tons of Caribbean lit, especially by women authors. You will not be disappointed with The Between. Her subsequent novels The Living Blood, My Soul to Keep, and The Good House are all excellent! Happy reading!

+booksnq oooh I love these recommendations. I didn't know either of these authors until I got them from the book sale. Now I'm really excited to check them out and got more books to check out later. Thanks so much for these. #reasonwhyibooktube

I've been really interested in reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I'd love to have the chance to get that. I can't believe you got all of these great books for that price! Library Book Sales are amazing.

+Elizabeth Tyree hey do you have Twitter? Or you could send me your address on the message thing here although I usually have a hard time checking those. I'm traveling at the moment but I can definitely send it to you when I get back.

I hear Wise Blood is kind of weird. Wow Sherwood Anderson! I haven't read any of his stuff since college. Alice Munro is on my radar too. I haven't read a thing from her yet. Yah man Caribbean lit my new island to discover. Those authors are severely neglected on Booktube. The Nobel Peace Prize is for his work. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is fantastic. I think you'll like it. I read it when I was a kid. Would you like to buddy read A Sport and a Pastime and/or A Little Life? I have them both on my TBR as well. Girl you got some fantastic books for so little money. Very nice haul!

+Brown Girl Reading duh to the Nobel Peace Prize being for his work. I should've thought of that. Yes! Yes! To a buddy read of both if we can manage it. I kinda have most things planned out until mid-July but I'm also really flexible. Let me know when you're thinking. Also booksnq left a comment on this video with some other recommendations by Michelle Cliff. You should check it out if you haven't already.

I loved The Elegance of a Hedgehog! So many interesting books, what a good library sail! My libraries have couple of bookcases of old books they are selling out from the library 50 (euro)cents per book. The books are the ones no one wants to read in the library..not even for free :D And they all are laminated..or glued with plastic wrapping. Nobel is given for the author for his literary work, so it's not for a spesific book.

+Peony yeah we have a used bookstore downstairs in our library and they just collect donations throughout the year. Some of the books end up on the shelves and some are kept for the bag sales. I feel extremely fortunate.

The Moons of Jupiter is a great collection. I read it about 3 years ago, along with Who Do You Think You Are. I forget which I read first, but combined they made me a Munro fan. Also, The Elegance of Hedgehog is an amazing novel.

+FromTheDustyBookshelf I need to push Elegance of the Hedgehog up my TBR. I've owned it for a bit now. It's about time I read it.

+Mickey's Booktube Experiment happy to hear that the Munro collection I have is a good place to start with her. I thought about not getting it and holding out for one of those larger collections that have most her stories from most of her career but I think it's nice to sort of track her career by reading her collections they way they were originally published. Those stories were put together for a reason.

I prefer to read her original collections. Her collections are often composed of stories that interconnect.

OMG lucky you! whenever there's a book sale at our library they're only getting rid of old uninteresting history, war, travel, romance books. you can only find a gem in every 100kg pile of books. Anyways, The elegance of the Hedgehog is one my favorite books despite its flaws (mainly the writer's navel-gazing and presence throughout the book). I would have loved to get a copy and read it in english, but I'm from the other side of the ocean.

I really want to check out Drown since I loooved The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is one that I want to get to eventually as well, I've heard so many great things about it but the size intimidates me a bit lol.

+Sarai Talks Books I was surprised by how large A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is. I didn't expect it to be that long. I don't think I'll get to it this year because I have some other big classics I'd like to read but I'll let you know when I do read it If you don't get to it before I do. Isn't Oscar Wao amazing?! Have you read This is How You Lose Her yet? I plan on getting to it sometime this year. I've heard mixed things though.

My favorite Coetzee works are Waiting for the Barbarians and Disgrace. If the somewhat experimental Elizabeth Costello doesn't work for you, try those and see if you like those novels.

Wise Blood is wonderful, it's been so long since a read it - great film adaptation as well. I read my first Coetzee a couple weeks ago. Totally in love. Adore that Bergman book!! Great haul, I love your taste. I started watching your videos a few months ago before you took your short break. Glad to see you posting again :)

+mementomori Thank you! Which Coetzee book did you read? Wise Blood sounds amazing. I'm reading this essay collection by Hilton Als and he had such great things to say about O'Connor and about Wise Blood in particular. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Large library sales freak me out because of so many people all grabbing at the books. I don't know if I could brave your library's sale.

+LizaadBooks It is intimidating. I just stand by the paperback table and don't move. Most people are actually pretty nice. There's this one woman who's a bookseller and she is a bit ruthless though and she also enlists her like 9 or 10 year old granddaughter to help her grab books too. I respect her hustle but sometimes I want to tell her it ain't that serious.

The booksellers, or the people looking to buy cheap to sell back, tend to be grumpy and grabby. That's why if the sale starts at 10:00, I usually wait to go at 11:00.
