Happy Holidays!!! Filmed this on my laptop Webcam. This was my first time using it and some of the audio is wonky. Crank up your volume. (I'll do better next video.)

Great to see you back! I was extremely interested in your review on The New Jim Crow and I will definitely read it, and watch the documentary 13th. Also, I'm deeply impressed by the gap the you and your colleagues are trying to fill regarding your theater work, and would love any suggestions you might have on plays, musicals, etc.

Glad to see you back Mickey! I'm not a fan of Pessel after reading Special Topics in Calamity Physics. She seemed pretentious in that novel so I'm not shocked that she tried to sound "hard-boiled" in Night Film. I'm shocked that so many people like her writing. Keep up the videos and have a Happy New Year!

Morgan Gayle pretentious definitely sounds like a good way to describe her writing. I found myself thinking that often while I was reading Night Film.

Mickey! So happy to see you in my feed! Your theatre company sounds fantastic. I have heard a lot of mixed things about Night Film. I'm not sure if I will read it. I read Special Topics in Calamity Physics in 2016, and it was pretty good but it didn't blow me away. It had a TON of literary references which was fun, but the voice of the narrator was nearly unbearable. "Check it out...maybe" is definitely how I would speak of Special Topics! I have "The 13th" on my to-watch list. I have heard amazing things. I hope that you make some more videos soon. I enjoy your reviews! Happy New Year!

OneBookMore It's a book that I somehow managed to enjoy despite its flaws but I don't feel very confident recommending it to others lol. The 13th is really great at laying out the history of mass incarceration and the way it has affected the black community. Michelle Alexander is actually interviewed throughout the documentary. It's interesting since she wrote the book at a time when so few people were willing to speak up against the War on Drugs and mass incarceration. It's definitely a more mainstream idea so it's good to see we've made some progress but we got a ways to go still.
