I don’t reread because I’m always afraid a book I’ve loved I won’t enjoy as much the second time. Also, there are so many books I want to read, I don’t want to take the time to do a reread. Glad people who enjoy rereads do it though.

If I read a book and take notes in a notebook (whole passages), I remember it for a longer period of time; less if I just annotate and use post-its and even less if I read and can't concentrate (like on the bus). I have no problem rereading on rewatching if it's something I liked. Looking forward to seeing the video where you organize your bookshelves. ❤🐈‍⬛📚

I want to say that, with His Dark Materials trilogy, I had exactly the same experience as you! I first read them (in Spanish, bc native tongue) when I was like 12-14 years old and I loved it, but when I re-read the whole trilogy (now in English too) when I was like 22, I was like "wow... I missed so much before!" but I loved it, because it felt like a new experience that didn't undermine my first one and I'm thinking on re-reading them soon (I'm 30 now) and hoping to see more aspects of it now that I know and have lived more since then. Also, yeah, it can be for young readers but the undertone is definitely mature.

I also plan to re-read "Blood Over Bright Haven" in the traditional published version ( by DelRey in October). My most re-read book is "Piranesi" by Susanna Clarke. I never felt as seen in a charcter before, so I return to "Piranesi" whenever I need the words to express the truth within my soul, to feel a wonder like no other and to be comforted.

I feel like i never forget books, at least not books I read before 2020-ish. I burnt out around that time and my brain works differently now, but before then, I couldn't forget anything. I am now rereading a book I read in 2014 and from the first page I remembered all the plot points, the reveal at the end and all the characters with the way I imagined them. Which rereading now, is funny because I imagined them completely wrong XD.

I need to prioritise reading some favourite books too. Like you say, it's difficult to pick up a book you've already read when there are so many books out there. I used to re-read favourites all the time when I was younger but I haven't re-read a book for about 3 or 4 years now (which interestingly aligns with when I started my booktube channel). It would be great to read some of my favourites from 3 or 4 years ago to see if they're still favourites ☺

Omg Lilith's Brood series being the "least traumatizing" of all of Butler's books? Dawn gave me a very uncomfortable feeling while reading and even afterwards couldn't shake that feeling. It felt very gross. I was interested in reading Kindred, but ever since Dawn I've been seriously questioning that.
@BookswithEmilyFox

Least traumatizing series! I think Kindred is easier because we're more used to hearing about slavery and it's less... alien. A tough read but I think you'll enjoy it!

I'm the same with forgetting books, if it's been (often less than) a year between books in a series I have to reread the previous books before picking up the new one. 🙂 But it's great, I love that I can reread favorite books almost like it's the first time reading them! 😃

Oh... I wish I could forget so many things. Sadly, (and happily in some cases) I never forget my favorite books. I reread them, knowing what's coming, and find the parts I love to feel the feels of, just to feel the echoes. I can tell you synopses of my favorite books (and some hated books) that I read as a tiny kid. Once they're in my brain, they set up shop and never leave.

I'm the same, I hate rereading/rewatching stuff. I will say "No, I haven't forgotten it yet!" My theory is the visual memory difference between people. If someone can't "replay" it in their heads, it makes sense that they would reread more than someone who can.
@CherreePanda
@CherreePanda 4 ай бұрын
Nah, I can literally replay a whole book in my mind like a movie and sometimes replaying a scene is why I pick it up again. I just have specific books that make me so comfortable that I want to dive in again. Some are also just so good that I have to experience it again and I feel the same as when I first read it. Having anxiety also means that sometimes you just want something you already love.

So far I've reread and would love to reread again Inkheart series (Cornelia Funke), and Black Mage series (Trudi Canavan), and Percy Jackson series. All of them are my favourites since primary school. In the future, I want to reread Lord of the Rings (well, I started a reread for Uni, but we weren't required to finish), School for Good and Evil series (because I only really read first 4 and there is 6 of them + 2 prequels waiting on my shelf). Btw, have you ever read Inkheart? I really really recommend it. First book was maybe 8/10 for me, and it's mostly nostalgia, but second and third book were great. And there is 4th book coming in English soon (it's already out in German, but while I bought the book on the premiere day, I can't understand German)

I read a library copy, so as soon as I finished it I ordered a copy for myself to own, which is very rare for me (I only own about 30 books). It was a very well observed exploration of emotions in a complicated and broken family dynamic, with an excellent fantasy story layered on top. I don’t like to reread, and I think that’s bad. I really think some books are really worth re reading, but it’s like I’m always reading constantly and feeling i want to read every book i hear about and i have no time to re read. I think it takes me two years to forget a book. And I think that happens when u read a lot of books. I mean if you read 10 or 20 books per year you would remember them more easily. But once they become 70 or more, and u r suddenly reading more than a 100, they all get muddled up and u forget them.

I heard some criticism about His Dark Materials being anti-religious and "killing God" and chalked it up to typical hyperbole. Then I read them and was like oh were are literally killing God lmao. I re-listened to them on audiobook as an adult and loved the experience. The first is still an absolute classic.

I didn’t have to read flowers for Algernon but I did have to watch the movie in science class in 8th grade (aka 12-13 years old) and it was so traumatizing I’ve never picked up the book😂

Oops.
