This is Boolavogue, a ballad commemorating the Irish Rebellion of 1798, played on a hand-made A whistle by Anthony Murphy.

Bravo, Mr. Murphy!! I had no idea that you played the whistle! The whistle is my own strongest instrument, (mainly because I couldn't afford a set of uillean pipes or a cruit (harp) or even a bodhrain, so I became a whistle-player) and I love its haunting and inspiring melodies as dearly today as I did when I was young. Anyway, you play it beautifully, and I thank you for sharing your art with the rest of us out here in the world. (If I ever learn how this whole KZfaq/computer-y world works, I might upload some videos of my own music, but for now, I shall be content with admiring your own.) Go n-eiri leat! --N

Thanks a million Naomi. I am not a great player because I don't have the fine motor skills required. But I'm OK with the slow airs. I think my experience with the brass band helps with breathing, phrasing, etc. Would love to hear your whistle playing! Yes to some KZfaq uploads!

As the mortal remains of our dear Aunt were returning to her home to be waked for 3 days, I was asked at the last moment to play a Boolavogue instrumental piece to herald her home reverently, So I turned to the great works of Anthony Murphy and played this piece, it was received so well that a second piece by Anthony played her coffin into its final resting place 3 days later - I invite you to go listen to, "Lament to the Newgrange (Sid in Brogha) ancestors". Thank you Anthony on all 3 counts, the 3rd being permission to use your work in this way... It was a very positive addition to a sad occurrence.

What they did to Fr Murphy really upsets me. RIP Fr James Murphy and his fellow United Irishman James Gallagher. Both shared the same faith. Rest in peace sons of Ireland.

So beautiful. If ur irish you know this from the tin whistle or the flute. I'd prefer the tin whistle personally.
