Once I was in the airport in Iran, and a gentleman asked me if I'm travelling to London and I said yes. He asked me to do him a favour and take the 3 pages of documents which belonged to his daughter and give them to her in London; I really felt bad for him but I refused and apologized for not being able to accept that as I was scared if they contained any traces of drugs. So please, never be afraid to say NO to strangers

Those Fijians were lucky, but it would be terrifying to being that situation and for some reason or another You end up for 10 years in Prison, it probably has happened more than once.

If the couple at the beginning were expecting someone to meet them and take the packages, wouldn't it make sense for Customs to hang out and allow the meeting and then intercept the receiver? So instead of just finding two mules, they could have got the dealer as well.

a NUN approached me in an airport once and asked if I could carry a package for her in my luggage. She never asked where I was even going. I learned then that smugglers might use costumes to put a person's defense down

It's sad to see people being taken advantage of. Some dealer tried it with me once. And several other people. "Hey .Can you carry this package through customs for me?" We reported him and no drugs made it across the border.

I hope customs located and apprehended the recipient of the older couple's contraband from Fiji. The naivety of the couple is tragic, the story understandable, but releasing them without consequences is of course an incentive for smugglers to intensify this kind of smuggling. Difficult situation.

Interesting, this couple made a huge mistake and were allowed to go free, however in other programmes we see the NZ customs fining $400 for a single orange bought in my mistake.

So, I have a question about the first couple. If “Bill” was the intended pickup person for the package, wouldn’t he be looking for this couple? If their story was actually true, they let these people walk out of the airport and who knows what this “Bill” could do to them. Something just didn’t feel right about that one.

What you need to understand is that these 2 came from a third world country. First time traveling, tickets paid for by their successful son who made a life for himself in New Zealand and probably sends them money each month. Also... they did get the recipient as an officer did walk out with a blue hat and tried finding the recipient. (Not mentioned in the video but it happened). So in the end they did get someone...

Whenever I visit my root country, I never carry parcel for my friends to be given to their loved ones back home. If ever it's important, I make sure to check it myself, then I'll wrap it myself to be troubled-safe.

Typically, when a person is checking luggage, the question is asked (or at least USED to be asked) by airline personnel whether anything is being transported for someone else. I would think that there ought to be a penalty for not having mentioned such items when they are found later by customs, but perhaps the airlines don't keep a record of the response received when the traveler is checking the luggage. If this were the procedure, the customs officers could say "you didn't declare your carrying something received from someone else, so anything in your luggage is presumed to be YOURS, and will be treated as such." This could prevent the traveler's trying to claim "oh, I didn't know I had it" or "I didn't know what it was".

Typical Fijian people, I'm from Fiji as well. So truly understand where they are coming from; they are good natured people. It's respect and trust that they have for people so they try and help others as much as they can. It is who they are. But it's so sad people take advantage of their trust and naive nature😢
