Westies are so funny...it never gets boring

Loved it! Very good tricks not only to make Westies eat but also to make them interested in learning new tricks. I’d like you to make a video about how you can get him so calm and engaged in the videos. That’s just amazing! ❤️🐾❤️🐾

✨💖✨Wonderful video. Sami is such a little man. I always had MacLaren sit when I put his food down. And if you forget to do that, he’ll stand there and look at you. You have to pick the bowl up, ask him to sit, and then he’ll eat. Sure has me trained. And he doesn’t like to eat alone. Our old little westie was the same. He had to be on a prescription diet. He didn’t care, as long as you were there. If we had to leave some food out for him, he wouldn’t eat it. When we finally got home, he’d greet us at the door, and then trot into the kitchen and eat. (My husband and I worked together.) He loved to play with carrots. If you’re giving it to them for nutrition, the carrots should be cooked, otherwise they’re just for fun. Now, our MacLaren is a different wee beast. He’s not a year old yet, so he still needs puppy food. But his food choices are limited, due to his sensitive tummy. He was fine until he was neutered, but got very sick afterwards. Loose stools mostly. It was rice and chicken breast after that for a bit and prescription probiotics to shake on his food. When he made the transition back yo dry food, we got the side look. Where’s the chicken? So we started to add a bit of water and pretended to warm it in the microwave. He was fine with that. Then after a few weeks, that food made him start vomiting. Back on chicken and rice and probiotics-no more vomiting. So we talked with the vet again and got the other brand she recommended. So we are a bit stuck at his current food until he’s a year old (next month). As long as we add a touch of water and pretend to cook it in the microwave he’ll eat it. We also have a little dachshund, who is a few months older. He gets food with added glucosamine and such for his little joints. He is not a picky eater at all. Our job with him is getting him to slow down, so he has a special dish.

Mixing it up is good advice and it works great. We always enhance Dougie’s basic dry food. Location is not an issue for him as he sprints to where his dish gets placed. It is actually quite entertaining. Our previous female Westie was more finicky and variation was much more necessary. By the way Dougie is more affectionate than Lucy was even though we felt she was very happy and loved to be around us. Both love (d) to go on road trips and when Dougie was 12 weeks old we went on a 15 week camping excursion. He loved it and was well mannered.

Our Westie was a very picky eater; we had to constantly change up his food, rotating through the various options about every 7 days. Moving his food bowl to different locations definitely helped when he was in one of 'those' moods :)

Brilliant ideas! Both of our Westies became bored with their food and we’d spend hours trying to get them to eat. I admit I often got down to their level, on the floor, to coax and feed by hand. We hope to have a new pup soon and this is the perfect time to put your ideas into play. (The two others came to us when they were older so it was doubly difficult to start new diets and food habits.) Yes! Would love more videos on the kind of food you have found to be effective for both Sami’s health and appetite. Thank you for another fantastic video!

My Westie is the exact same way around food! She hates boring old kibble!! They are such picky dogs that act like royalty! But I lover her even if she's a food snob lol

We lost our little westi , Bella in November 😢 But, I used to put either a beef roast or a pork roast in the crock pot overnight with lots of liquid in it. Then I would separate it into little freezer bags. I would serve her the meat, different veggies with kibble and lots of juice. We never had a problem with feeding her once I made the roast. We are on a list for a new baby girl, Sammi is so sweet ❤

Great video with you both.you are Spot on with all your advice. Murphy is a bit picky too but loves A raw carrot and peas. Of course chicken is hif favourite So l mix it with the dry kibble,like You l mix up the flavours. I will definitely try the sardines he Likes salmon and cod. Sami is beautiful, very expressive... I always like looking at you! I also have a 3 year old westie Mickey! like you, I add rice or vegetables to the croquettes, and he is healthy and strong. I saw in your video... which I can't find, you used a product (foam) that you put on your paws. My Mickey often has red paws because he licks them constantly... I think he's allergic to some grass/plant... because it only happens in spring. If you could tell me the name of this disinfectant product it would be useful to me. How do you keep his weight down Merin gets 2 to 3hrs excise each day food is controlled but he is still over weight.

Have you tried feeding him raw food? I feed mine raw chicken leg quarters with beef liver, steamed spinach and chicken feet. He’s ALWAYS excited to eat.
