Hell Yeah!! I love all the grease you use!!! I am a tech too and use lots of grease everywhere it needs and other mechanics never understand and say oh dont need all that grease . well yeah ya do with the salt and its called doing a thorough job. It all helps because guess what the next season when it needs serviced makes our job a lot easier knowing its all been greased up properly!!!

Excellent demonstration. Your were quick and simple to the point! Too many other posts with long drawn out demonstrations. You should have at least a basic understanding of what needs to be done before attempting this type of job. Therefore demonstrations like yours are perfect. I have a 2016 model that seems to be a little different also it has a red thing instead of a water hose near the shift shaft on the lower unit.

Hi. Great video. You mentioned using a little grease on the oil filter and thermostat. Do you use regular marine wheel bearing type grease or something else?

Ever had and oil leak on one of the 2010 250 i just bought one and it has alot of oil on and around the base of the motor looking like maybe the valve cover jasket

Usually we just do a visual inspection and spray them with contact cleaner, I don't think vinegar would do any harm :)

I cannot believe how much a thermostat costs for this motor. Is it possible to replace only the inner components or do you have to buy the entire assembly? I see you link to a Sierra product versus the Mercury p/n, have you had good luck with the Sierra thermostats?

Quick questions: - Does this video apply to the Verado 135, Gen 1 as well?. . .other videos you can recommend for this engine? - Perhaps a dumb question, but why are you taking the lower unit off in this video? to change the anodes? - This is my first time doing maintenance on my own. Do I need to tighten some bolts or screws with torque wrenches? Thanks!

The 135 is very similar with some changes in the cowling parts. Lower came off to change the impeller:)

Do you recomend 25w/50 or 25w/40 for the L6 350HP Verado? Service manual seems to recomend 25w/40 as well as videos from quicksilver and mercury.

Since it's digital, the actuator on the engine will be in neutral no matter where the handle is :)

Excellent video! Quick question regarding my 2008 Gen II Verado. The owner’s manual lists the replacement of high pressure in-line fuel filter for the 300hr service interval. However, you recommend replacing this every 100hours? Also, the manual says that changing this is something that “should be serviced by an authorized dealer”. Why do you think it says that when your video makes it look super easy to replace? Thanks again

It looks easy because he's a pro marine technician. You'd be surprised what a hack job this would have turned into at other places. Engine oil overfilled (very easy to make this mistake on an L6 Verado if you don't know what you're doing,) overtightened oil filters, under/over tightened spark plugs, re-using oil seals/ruining them by overnightening, not filling the gearcase correctly, etc. If you have some good mechanical knowledge and experience then yes you could do a service like this by yourself. These days it's rare to find an actual professional marine mechanic who can service these modern four-stroke outboards and actually do it right. You want the real deal and not a paid hack.

Great job .....on my 2018 300 Verado ...After changing the high pressure filter and the boat mounted water separating filter ( which I pre filled with gas ) do I need to purge the fuel rail ?? Thanks

Thank you! No, if just changing the little quick connect filter on the port side of the engine and then the water separator that you pre-filled. The engine will consume any little bit of air and run fine within seconds. You should be good to go! Great job!

I like that how you do that service motor I have problem some how I drop the 1/4 " thick 12" long zip tie in to the dip stick hole. If I drain motor oil do think that come out thru drain hole?

Possibly, thats a bummer! There's a lot of curves and crevasses in that oil pan. Plus a long drain tube before the oil drain plug, but definitely try!

I love your channel, very helpful. I am winterising my 2015 Verado225 and since I changed motor oil lately, it did only 30 hours. I wanted to change impeller now, took lower unit off but motor oil started to spill out. Then I realised why I must drain motor oil first and then take off lower unit. I drained motor oil now through drain plug, throwing all oil away and changed oil filter. Is any harm done to Verado by taking off lower unit before draining motor oil? Thanks for answer The same thing I did last year with my Yamaha 150, took lower unit off but motor oil did not drain.

Hi, I have twin Verado 300. Every time I change the engine oil + filter I put 7lts oil in but after starting the engines, the oil hardly shows on the dipstick. I even tilt up the engines for a few mins and then back down to check again but still the same. The oil doesn't even reach the hexagon on the dipstick on both engines. Any suggestions? 2013 verado 250 lower unit front has 4 holes. Like on the tip below where a pilot would normally be. Are the holes factory? They are now irregular sizsize

As always thank you for your videos. Question, when i went to wash down my 2012 Mercury Verado 300 (550hrs) with a little fresh water, i noticed a little oil coming down from the supercharger front air vent filter. Is this something i should be concerned about? It does look like it been leaking for a while as it had some I haven't experienced any noticeable lack of power. Thank you in advance for any information provided.

Hey Jumar, unfortunately there isn't anything you can do about that, outside of replacing it, and as I remember they didn't used to sell a replacement for that:/ the new superchargers have a replaceable vent on the top, but the front one I dont think you can. Just keep your eye on it and the oil levels and run it for as long as you can ;)

Meanwhile in Norway: I drained 11 liters from my 2010 Verado 225. It has done 20 hours with 4 liters more than it should. How damaging is that? The motor has only done 182 hours. Dealer misfilled it during service. The service papers says "4 liters oil filled" 20 hours ago.

It's good that you caught that! It shouldn't have done any damage since you caught it so soon. They normally run on 7.5L or so. 182 hours on a 2010 is really low! Hopefully you get to put more hours on it :)

Hey, there's a lot of variables to account for there, and I can't really give you the prices for the parts. But I would say to definitely do the 100 hour and 300 hour services. It's basically identical to this but you have a red top fuel filter on the starboard side of the engine as well

Hi there I have two 250 verados Gen I, 2005. My engines sometimes take a while to start, even though the starters are only seven months old, all batteries are about a year old, and the port alternator is about five months old, in addition to the battery charger only being about 3 months old. Could that be a bad fuel injector?

Could be a bunch of stuff. I would start by checking the spark plugs and then checking spark and compression. After that, check the fuel pressure and see what that looks like. You might have resistance in the power cables going to the engine as well. If there is too much resistance in either the power cable or ground cable they can start hard. Just make sure that it's a power issue and not a running issue. You pull the fuel rail off as well of you wanted to see the injectors. They come off really easily.

If you had a choice of getting the same exact boat but one hade these verado 250’s or the new verado 250’s which one would you get ?

It's really a hard choice. These engines are fantastic and super easy to work on. But then again the new engines are lighter and have four more cylinders. Plus the fuel economy of them are way better. So that's a good question. For me, I'd probably go with the older ones, just because I have every part I could ever need for them and I dont for the new ones lol

I love mine. And it’s super easy to work on. If I get a new boat it will most likely have the new ones. But the new ones are lighter and more fuel efficient. But if the have any with the older verado I may do that.

Is this for a 100 hr or 300 hr service, I didn't realize the thermostat, belt and plugs need to be replaced every 100 hrs.

This is a full service :) or you could call it a 300 hr service. This just shows the entire service to be able to help everyone, depending on where they are in their service intervals! At 100 hours, you usually just do the engine oil, oil filter, fuel filters, and gear lube :)

My clean power fuse blew again. Disconnected the DTS throttle and put in a new fuse and it did not blow. Connected the throttle and it did not blow. I was able to make it back. Do you think it needs a new DTS throttle?

No when dealer came down to boat and plugged it in it was working. Said it may have been a loose screw so it’s the same control box.

That's the thing about intermittent issues, sounds like the control box needs changed, or at least the potentiometer changed.

No, the belts are 300 hour, this just shows everything that needs to be done on a 300 hour depending where you are in your 100 hour service intervals

@@BornAgainBoating I still watch A LOT, because I'm my own mechanic. Taking out a "didn't want to budge" Zuki water pressure valve right now! I see it's a big deal and EZ on some Verados. Doing it cause it's the last item in line to proper cooling here in this dirt river I fish. Feel I'm running a bit high temp at 5 grand plus. 👌
