The new mid-torque has been added to our list of tools that dont suck: www.amazon.com/shop/torquetestchannel I think Bosch model numbering their tools based on what they can do in forward tightening (which looks accurate), and leading with that number in marketing sells them short. It's an old school practice, so props for that. But likely makes it hard for the average buyer to compare the tools with the monster specs plastered on other brands today. The creator of this channel is working in product development for Astro Tools who also make impacts (air ones). Always consider multiple sources when looking at a tool!

It's not just this channel, but several tool-testing channels seem to often ignore Bosch and instead focus on other brands. Yet Bosch has a surprisingly good range of high quality tools that are overshadowed by Dewalt and Milwaukee simply because of name recognition.

I actually think Bosch makes nice tools. It’s nice too see them investing money back into their cordless tool lines again. They were pretty stagnant for a while.

I see many comments about Bosch being under rated, forgotten, or not well represented in stores or online. I think Bosch, and to a certain degree Makita, are brands that have a very large and well placed global footprint. As such, Bosch has not been marketing in the US, in the way it did 10+ years ago (and Makita also lately). For Dewalt and more so Milwaukee, the US market is their bread & butter. I do not know what their numbers are but they live or die based on their US sales. I personally believe that Bosch and Makita have so many markets to focus on that the US, although the biggest or among the biggest markets, history has shown them that they will only get so much in the US. All tools today are made in China or elsewhere, but Milwaukee is considered American, as is Dewalt, where Makita and Bosch are considered foreign. I think Bosch and Makita have come to realize that although the US market is large and valuable, no matter how much money they sink into marketing, storewide shelf space or other promotions, their piece of the pie will not get that much bigger. So invest a ton less, lose a few market share points but still make similar profits. the savings can go to other worldwide markets where it could make a difference.

I love the Bosch high torque 18v-740. Looks like I’ll be adding this guy to my tool kit as well.

One test I wouldn't mind seeing is the actual Lumin output on projectors. A lot of cheap ones have numbers that are high light flashlights but the actual major brands do not even advertise that high.

Bosch is one of the most reliable and underated brands out there.

I swear by Bosch tools and electronics, so seeing them perform so well and so consistently is a great feeling

Cool test and yes, sometimes lightweight is a big deal. I know that I will often grab a smaller battery for tasks that don't require max beans. Light, handy, ergonomic, and convenient are often things that make a tool one of my favorites.

I've had the big, brushed, tired Bosch for about five years now, and it sure has worked great during those years. Sure; it's not as fast or light as the new ones, but for tire changes and other basic mechanic work it's been worth its weight in gold!

Could you guys torture test and rank sockets? Both impact and chrome would be awesome! Brands like Snap-On, Tekton, Sunex, Mac, Cornwell, Pittsburgh, Gearwrench, Ko-ken, etc.

I found the Bosch 1/2" drill and 1/4" impact driver kit on clearance at Lowes for less than 1/2 price (under $150). They had two kits and I bought them both. The drill and driver both have been great, with long battery life and good power. Bosch didn't have a mid-torque impact when I bought these kits, but I'll probably pick one of these up since they do now.

I very much like the Bosch power tools I have, (Drill drivers) they are light and even better, comfortable to hold all day, The most recent Makitas seem to be designed to wear holes in your hands, more powerful yes, but painful.

Makita makes a bigger one than I carry, but I don't wanna carry that, and I don't need it anyways... This thing looked pretty cool.... Settable torque that actually works... That's intriguing....

I really like the channel and content. I have a couple test recommendations. 12V drill/impact kit comparison Bosch vs. Milwaukee with bushed vs. brushless and any other brands. I would also like to see the new Ryobi One+ HP ratchets run the gauntlet & test vs. the std Ryobi you have already tested.

I've always wanted to see the eBay battery adapters tested, DeWalt to Bauer, Makita to DeWalt, Milwaukee to DeWalt, etc. I know at least some of them work but it would be interesting to see the power difference between original batteries and other brands. Real Makita batteries in the SeeSii impacts would be interesting too, given that I have some Makita drills and their batteries work perfectly in the SeeSii WH700 I have. Seems to make a bit of extra power but I'm not 100% sure. Another Amazon episode would be interesting as well, there have been many new impacts that have shown up since the last tests.

I'm happy to see it doing well in this test. I bought this exact model a while ago. Have only used it once for changing tires on my car. But my main use case will probably be for big fasteners in wood construction. I bought it for it's small size and weight. Max torque is not my primary concern. I have yet to really put it to the test but so far it seems nice. Bosch have really been picking up the slack lately but are still far behind on marketing compared to the other big brands, even here in Europe.

I know its not considered a profactor tool but I'm curious if the 8ah battery would make any differenceon this mid torque?

Not as consistent as an Aircat for a wheel gun: on setting 1 all 3 that I have owned would consistently put 95-100 ft/lb with a short run. Input pressure doesn't seem to matter, old place had 165-180psi but even at home 100psi same result.

Hopefully we can get torque wrench testing in the future.

Could a stack of bellevile washers replace the spring in an impact? Stacked in a way to get more travel they would have plenty of travel for the hammer but would provide much more force than a spring. Idk exactly how it could be used but maybe someone need a stronger spring but can't find an exact mach, the washers would give more options as they come in a lot of sizes too.

I can't believe it. I offered you my GSR 18v-400 (400Nm) before but you refused because I'm from another continent. recently this new model caught my eye. I checked it at the store and this weighted 40% heavier being similar sizes and only rated only 450Nm. could not believe it and you prove it. my next bosch tool as 400 feels too weak :D

What is the most common/general method of biasing the tool for one direction over the other? My guesses are either hammer and anvil geometry, or which way the spring is wound (cw vc ccw), but I'm just armchair speculating.

I would like to see a comparison of the 110v, corded impacts that are out there. No compressor, no battery (or _surprise surprise_ half dead battery) needed, just an extension cord. Seems like something an occasional shade tree mechanic could benefit from.

It seems really weird that Bosch isn't a big player in the US market. They make good stuff but it seems like a gamble to buy Bosch with a fraction of the availability than from the big players. There also doesn't seem to be much innovation coming out from them either.

I understand you're comparing the fact this is very underrated for its torque rating but it's kind of impressive that $159 Ryobi beat it because that same impact can be found on sale all the time at home Depot for like $100 or for $150 as a kit with a a decent battery and charger. Pretty good performance for the price. I bought mine for $99 on a sale and it does everything my friends Milwaukee does as far as practically being used for the everyday persons needs. Will it lasts as long probably not but I literally paid less than half the price for it and since I'm mostly a DIY and not doing everyday heavy construction I've never had a problem with any of my Ryobi tools breaking down I have some that are 10 years old. Had a battery that got left out in the rain once which was my fault but when I called Ryobi and told them it wasn't charging they sent me a new one no questions asked since it was under warranty. Didn't have to send in the old battery and the new one came in 5 days. Just told me I couldn't report that serial number in for a warranty again. I was even able to harvest the 18650s out of it for my rechargeable flashlights.

need some sort of torque per tool kg of tool weight. We know the brands that put in the r&d to set a new standard, then 2 years later another brand comes along and beats it. dewalt have shown how to up the torque by just increasing the hammer weight. first to market should be rewarded and efficiency of the tool. as mentioned, opening up someone else's tool, then a few years later bring out a heavier more powerful tool isn't something to be boasting about.

You know what is really missing big time on your channel: Teardowns and a rating system based on repairability and spare parts pricing. Bosch and Makita will dominate then since Milwaukee and Dewalt is basically unfixable due to spares being too expensive or not available on their own. They often lump groups of parts together and you end up paying 100+$ for a complete wiring harness assembly for a Milwaukee when you only need the trigger switch or the battery contacts. I only buy Bosch and Makita because of that, I dont support overpriced mid grade tools that are a one time wonder you better break in the warranty period because you cant fix it yourself. In fact I have an old Bosch 12V drill from 2014 thats been abused and used a lot in general. My oldest Bosch tool actually. Recently opened it up cleaned it out and regreased the gearbox. The motor is actually completely worn out. A new motor is 16€ plus shipping straight from Bosch. How about that for tools that actually last and are worth repairing. Bosch and Makita are a bit slow and not as innovative as other brands (Bosch still carries quite a few brushed tools for example) but their products are well engineered and are often worth repairing. Take the GSH 11E demolition hammer. Absolutely indestructible hammer, the golden standard on any jobsite across europe. Well worth putting 2 to 3 service kits into aswell as an armature before its done. These regularly last so long when serviced they will wear away the commutator bars on the armature completely and thats rare these days because it takes a lot of runtime hours. All im saying is when the EU overlords push trough more Right to Repair Legislation for Bosch and Makita it will be buisness as usual, for other brands most certainly not. Bosch Powertools is a place where german engineering still shines which is a rare occurrance.
