Carefully applying resistance to your boxing training can help create better punching techniques and power development. A kettle bell is a great form of resistance to incorporate for this goal. They are pliable and conform closely to the sporting movement of throwing punches. #dingding

What makes Tom so amazing is his attention to detail. He explains every bit and detail of the techinques and it helps me understand boxing like never before! It helps to know what foot to drop your weight off or push off, etc. (Those are the details many boxing coaches forget to stress it seems)

Awesome instruction coach, well made video. I love hearing of new ways to build strength and power without disrupting the technique. Lead uppercut is my weakest punch, so I’m gonna start doing these regularly as well as focus on mitts more! I’m a Harrisburg PA guy, but now live out west, so thanks from Phoenix and a new subscriber!

Excellent. I'm working specifically on generating more torque from my hips so this is super useful. I find that I'm coming up on mobility being a limiting factor in how much I can twist . . . ie tight QL's and almost everything in my hip/glute/hip flexors just feeling locked up from sitting so much at work. Do you have a mobility routine for those areas specific to boxers?

So am I, 6ft1 though. study lomachenko & practice orthodox too. The more you work your uncomfortable stances, the more comfortable you'll get over time. Learn to switch stances to manipulate angles. So you can go through your opponents reach advantage.

Hi Coach, When I punch the mitt or even when I'm punching on the heavy bag, it's very strange, but when I'm sparring, I can not use it same power.I was wondering if you could have a workout about this. Thank you so much.
@WorldClassBoxingChannel
@WorldClassBoxingChannel 5 жыл бұрын
As you have found out, sparring is much different than hitting a bag and the mitts, It's a different game when you have other elements to deal with like getting hit. It makes you more cautious and a bit hesitant to perform the same movements as you would on a bag. it comes down to experience and ring work with opponents. It;s the only way to refine the skills you need to be able to utilize your power. A bag cooperates with you much more than a sparring partner does! Thanks!

What kettlebell weight you recommend?
@WorldClassBoxingChannel
@WorldClassBoxingChannel 5 жыл бұрын
#1 depends on your strength level #2 weight divivsion #3 experience with resistance training #4 never use very heavy weight though. It will inhibit the correct muscle firing patterns and send the wrong message to your body for the desired movement technique. Thanks!

@@WorldClassBoxingChannel Roger that. Im pretty experienced with strength and do use kettlebell swings but it seems like I should go lighter on the side to side to start that movement. Btw you have so many good videos on here that its almost paralyzing to pick one to study. Thanks so much for all this great content!

I feel like you should be pivoting the opposite foot when you swing the bell to each side. Looks like without the pivot, your knees would suffer. I'm not college so idk wtf I'm saying 🤷🏿‍♂️

Can I punch with 5 pound weights to build power?
@WorldClassBoxingChannel
@WorldClassBoxingChannel 5 жыл бұрын
How much do you weigh? 5 pounds might be too much, but it depends on how you are performing the exercise. Meaning...are you punching the entire round with the weights, or are you periodically setting the weights down and punching free hand?!
@PassionateSpirit88
@PassionateSpirit88 5 жыл бұрын
I do 50 fast and powerful repetitions of all the different punches. I wonder if this can make all the different punches more powerful?
@WorldClassBoxingChannel
@WorldClassBoxingChannel 5 жыл бұрын
@@PassionateSpirit88 I would do what's called a "contrast" set with the weights. Start with 5 lbs and then 3 lbs and then unload the weights. Training with 5 lb weights too often, although great for strength building and conditioning is not productive for building more speed! It's too heavy for your body to maintain the punching techniques necessary to develop speed. It disrupts the "firing" pattern of the sporting movement! Good luck!
