Yup, Honky Tonk means a few things. Honky Tonk is a genre of country and rock mix, it's also harkening all of the way back to Hank Williams singing "We'll go honky tonkin', honky tonkin', we'll go honky tonkin 'round this town." Loose women is most likely what the Stone's song is referring to, which you probably would see in a Honky Tonk bar.

A honky-tonk is both a bar that provides country music for the entertainment of its patrons and the style of music played in such establishments. It can also refer to the type of piano (tack piano) used to play such music. Bars of this kind are common in the South and Southwest United States. Many eminent country music artists, such as Jimmie Rodgers, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Ernest Tubb, Johnny Horton, Carl Smith, and Merle Haggard, began their careers as amateur musicians in honky-tonks.

If I remember correctly, the song was initially written by Keith as a country/bluegrass tune as in 'Country Honk' and Mick Taylor at one point just plugged his guitar in and hammered out the riff as we know it. Changed the whole sound of the song. The rest is history. Not sure who exactly is playing lead/rhythm on the record, though.

The song came about when Mick and Keith were on a remote ranch in the US.They sat outside talking about some of their life experiences. The song was more blues originally but was altered once they got to the recording studio.

A honky tonk is usually a tawdry bar or dance hall, especially one that features country music or the loud unrestrained music that pours out of these bars. So a honky tonk woman is a cheap dance hall girl. 💃

In the late sixties and early seventies i went to Honky Tonk's all the time. Had some really good times, but also had some pretty rough fights. All in all it was a good time of my life. They mostly played old sad country songs so people would buy more beer and cry into it. lol. Thanks for playing this as it's one of my favorites..

When creating art, here in the form of music, the artist has a mood, a sound, a feeling they want to get across and express to their audience. It’s crazy how quick Lex picks up on some of these songs. After the first lick she fell right into the groove and “got” the song. Not sure if it’s a credit to these artists song writing and being able to convey their art so well or Lex’s musical intelligence and awareness (it’s both) but I enjoy watching how quick she picks up on some of these songs with the insight of someone who’s listened to them thousands of times. It’s honestly impressive.

A honky tonk is a country bar or dance hall where blue-collar, working folks hangout and have a few drinks. A honky tonk woman is the kind of woman that hangs out in a honky tonk drinking. And yes, there are honly-tonk men. Johnny Horton (and later covered by Dwight Yoakam) had a huge hit in 1956 with a song titled "Honly Tonk Man". It is a country classic and worth listening to.
