Thx buddy I used this to do my brakes! One tip I think I’d share is you can do one pad at a time, and it makes compressing the pistons a lot less tedious.

The rear rotors were the biggest pain to remove I have ever encountered, and I have done a lot of brake jobs. Took while rotating and hitting the rotors before they broke loose, so you likely avoided some aggravation! The rear surface of my rear rotors were in awful shape even thought the front surface looked good. I always wire brush/sand the corrosion from the hub and apply a thin film of copper or nickel anti seize paste to avoid future headaches of rotor removal. I also apply a film to the mounting surface of the wheels to aid in removal.

I looked at the other side of my rear rotors and it was the same. Thanks for the advise. My wheels are never hard to remove, I remove them often for cleaning. It's easy with my QuickJack lift.

@@JamesDIYGarage You likely had aftermarket rear pads, as the OEM semi metallic pads are brutal on rotors. The Quickjack is on my list as a must have.

@@cmlf1 I love my Quickjack. You will need the EXT version. The smaller version is too small. I got the 7000EXT so I could use it on my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee also. It weighs 6500LBs.

The brake fluid overflow issue is from adding brake fluid to the system periodically as the brake pads ware. You should never add brake fluid while doing a "fluid check" on you car. Brake fluid level should only be used as an indicator of brake ware. When the fluid gets low enough that you think you should top it off, do a visual inspection of the brake pads instead.
@JamesDIYGarage
@JamesDIYGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds logical. But I worry about air getting into the system with low fluid level. Anyhow, I just bled my brakes several months ago. That is why it was my reservoir was full.

Great video! When exactly did the brake light came up? I had repeating squeaking noises on my SQ4 and one of the garages said i have around 1000-2000more miles to go on the brake pads before i have to replace them. I got the car new and it only has 6500miles on it.
@JamesDIYGarage

The brake warning light will illuminate when the sensor makes contact with the rotor. As far as mileage on the 1st set of brake pads, that will depend on what type of pads were installed and your driving style. Mine lasted almost 30k miles.

Hi James, I really like the content of your videos, may I also ask how do you find the torque for each bolt for a Maserati car? I just got it a 2015 Maserati quattroporte I planned to change the rotor by myself too. Thx for your help!

I have a shop service manual for my Ghibli. I dont have one for the QP. But for the front rotors, you are probably safe following the torue value I specify in my video. But for peace of mind, I would ask around the Maserati facebook groups if anyone has a copy of the Shop Service Manual for the QP. Torque values will be there.

Hey James. I am going to do mine soon and wanted to ask if there are any solid jack points other than the plastic ones in the covers that I can suspend the vehicle with axle stands. The issue is that the whole underneath is covered for the aerodynamics. Thanks in advance 👍

No, I have always only used the provided jack points. I have seen videos of people putting jacks under the subframe or the lower control arms. But I would never do that myself.

Nice video man , I have a question for you .. i recently got both my front and back rear brakes and rotors replaced. Maybe 2 months or so ago . Well, when I begin to brake everything's fine at relatively high speeds. But when I begin to go maybe less than 10mph and my foot is slightly on the brake, I can feel the front of the car begin to rattle abit . A bit as in its noticeable everytime. Any insights on what it can be? Thanks in advance ! Love the channel.
@JamesDIYGarage
@JamesDIYGarage 3 жыл бұрын
If this started after you had the brakes replaced, I would bring your car back to the place you had it done, advise them of your experience and ask them to check their work. They should warranty their work as well as the parts they used. As far as what I think it could be, thats a tough one. You say the brakes are nice and smooth at high speeds but vibrates at low speeds? I can't think anything that would cause issues at low speed that would not get worse at high speed.

Curious if anyone has ever used the non drilled rotors? Most of these cheaper sets on Amazon and eBay are rotor blanks they have drilled out to match OEM.

I get my oil filters and crush washers from EUTech Auto repair shop on Auburn just south of Watt. The rest I get from either Scuderiacarparts.com, Amazon or Ebay. I also get some 2nd hand parts from the Parts Pros in Rancho Cordova. They also sell on Ebay, but if you buy direct from them and pick the part up personally they will give you a good discount, especially if tell them JamesDIYGarage recommended you to them.

The brakes I got from both ebay and amazon. I would link them but that was a couple years ago and those specific listings do not exist anymore on either Ebay or Amazon. So far the rotors and pads have performed good. After all that time still no wear ridges and the pads are still thick. Not much brake dust either.

It should be automatically applied. I believe that setting is in the Infotainment center, don't know exactly where off the top of my head. But go ahead and try to remove the rear rotor. If you can't, the disengage the parking brake and try again.
