Incubus singer Brandon Boyd delves deep into his history as a music fan in this special episode of the "Fan First" podcast. He shares the story of watching his talented, artistic mother sing and play piano when he was a kid. As a 15-year-old in 1991, he formed Incubus after becoming enamored of the incredible new generation of bands emerging at that time. Over the next three decades, Brandon Boyd found his distinct musical voice with Incubus and his solo work. "Pocket Knife" - the lead single off his forthcoming album 'Echoes and Cocoons' - is out now.

Brandon is such a nice guy and an incredible singer and songwriter. I love Incubus since SCIENCE, my favorite record of them is Morning View, since i was in high school, they are a big reason why i'm a musician.

I remember buying S.C.I.E.N.C.E. at Walmart in 97. I was like the first kid in my High school to bring Incubus to everyone's attention and that CD got passed around and ripped so much! Then make yourself came out my senior year, such an amazing time in music and pop culture in general!

Incubus didnt get all the credit they deserved because they came out at the same time as soo many other bands and singers.

But they did though, they still sell out concerts all over the world, and it's better they are not "main stream" because if you know, you know! They are THE most talented people ever and I'm glad they are not all over the place, because we appreciate them all that bit more and it makes it much more special, intimate and you can appreciate them that little bit more., but those who do follow, which is just enough, will always adore them. There's also those peoples children who are now attending concerts and they are the next generation of incubus fans. You don't get that with any other band I can think of.

@@lala_land86 but like are they being talked about for the hall of fame? They should be.
@Kinyson
@Kinyson Жыл бұрын
@@russellward4624 The hall of fame is redundant to musicians of this caliber. It’s what makes these artists much more loved over longer periods of time. You’ll notice a trend with pop artists, they shine big but burn out rather quickly. When artists like this resonate on a much deeper level with people. Ultimately, finding themselves more widely adored, and remembered longer than a pop artist who shined much brighter momentarily, but have flickered away decades ago.

What a beatiful story about pocket knife and the continuous fall. My pocket knives in lucid dreams, once i actually realize that i'm dreaming, which doesn't always happen, are: staring at the moon, rushing open a scary door and facing what ever monster is behind it (and there never is a monster, even when there was breath or knocking to be heard behind the door before) or jumping down an abyss and literally start flying away. All of those let me control the dream but also eventually wake me up. And i found out just by trial and error when i had one of my luckily very few actual nightmares in my life, i was very young and wanted to actually escape the nightmare.

Speaking of drum 'n' bass, the song "Nowhere Fast" on Make Yourself is a great example of that. That was my favourite song on the album for a long time. Make Yourself had this aquatic sound that I just hadn't heard anywhere else at the time. I was listening to Metallica religiously in my mid-teens and Incubus was quite the breath of fresh air. Damn I'm so late to this interview!!! >_

I saw primus is 91 at this small club here in Cleveland. The place probably held a few hundred tops and I wouldn’t doubt if there were close to a 1000 people in there. The floor supports gave way and causes enough structural damage that the club had to close down.

I have waking dreams from time-to-time. I was working on my house one day and sat on a floor joist, started to rest a little then the landscape changed. Now, I’m sitting on a desert plain and I’m looking out at the heat mirages. From them, a white rectangle appeared followed by a leopard walking around from behind it. It walked to the center of the rectangle, and rested in the same pose I was in. We stared at each other for a while then I was back the normal landscape. I’ve kept something of a journal for them perhaps to use creatively.
