Eckhart Tolle is widely recognized as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. He travels and teaches throughout the world.
Eckhart is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace, healing and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness - a global spiritual awakening.
Eckhart Tolle is the author of The Power of Now, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, which has been translated into 32 languages and become one of the most influential spiritual books of our time.
In his most recent book, A New Earth, he shows how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world.

I grew up with anxiety but didn't know what it was until I was older. What helped me the most was staying present and recognizing I am anxious right away. I started stepping out and watching my thoughts as Ekhart says here. At first, you won't notice that much difference. But the more you do it, you'll notice that your thoughts won't grip you for as long. I'm at the point now where they only keep me preoccupied for about 30 seconds. Be patient. It takes weeks and months of practice. It won't be overnight, especially if this has been a lifelong habit like it was for me. I wish you all nothing but peace and calm! Don't give up!

Hi Lisa. Very nice words. I had social anxiety issues in my 20's. When I'd leave the situations I'd feel better. Eventually kept exposing myself and got over it. Now in 40's, whether from habitual stress from a struggling business or another reason, I started having anxiety attacks last October. The physical anxiety attacks kind of diminished and for many months I'm having the toughest time with generalized anxiety all the time. It has put me in this weird state of being sensitized to everything. I feel nervous all the time, but it does get worse when having to do social things. I literally have this phobia I'm going crazy, into a state of mild psychosis, even possibly developing schizophrenia. Repeated dictors have squashed this and said its GAD. So if I had to pinpoint, I do have issues as Tolle first implies as to scary thoughts and this fear I have some scarier mental illness. But I also feel fear come out of nowhere. So I guess thats pain body. I've read power of now and been trying to accept everything, to flow through and let things pass. But I constantly feel this sensitized state I feel like I'm on a bad high from drugs but not taking anything. I've tried mindfulness meditation, when I sit with my thoughts I grow more nervous and worry more about mental illness. I don't understand how to accept this, when I constantly feel on edge and nervous. I don't understand how to step out when it's from moment I wake up to almost bed time. I'm still functioning, running a business with employees, marriage, 2 boys, their sports (I help coach), but everything is a struggle..i just want to find peace :(

@LisaIrby

@@320hp Keep in mind that acceptance doesn't mean you "like" what's happening. You start by becoming aware and accepting that this is what is happening now even though it may not happen forever. It just means you call it out as soon as you notice it and stay with what you're noticing rather than spinning the narrative "I'm going crazy." So the next time you start feeling or worrying that you are going crazy, you say to yourself.... "Here I go again. I'm worrying about going crazy when in reality I'm just a victim of this habitual thinking." It's unlikely I'm going crazy. I'm just caught in this bad habit. It will probably happen again later, but I will remind myself that I am not crazy. So every time that thought comes up you stay present with whatever you're thinking and repeat that reassurance again. The reality is you are not crazy. You are just worried you are. You are just caught in looping thoughts that grip you. Trust me! I know how you feel. I used to worry that I would never stop worrying and end up sick or crazy. Worrying that you are going crazy is a common habit of people with anxiety. I couldn't stop the thoughts either. But I would keep reminding myself that the worries never last and it's the FEELINGS that come after the initial thought are more troublesome than the actual thought itself. How you feel, feeds on more bad thoughts and you are caught in a cycle. The key is stopping the cycle as soon as you notice it by calling it out. It's what you do immediately after you have that recurring thought. Once you get good at catching the initial thought and stopping the looping thought (I'm going crazy), your mind will learn that it can't grip you anymore and you will ignore it and move on. It takes time! Trust me. You can overcome this.

Not sure who needs to hear this, but if things are rough for you right now, hang in there. This storm will pass. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Baby steps, my dear. As long as you don’t quit, you will reach the summit. Remember, baby steps are all it takes. Take a brief moment to rest, refuel, and come back stronger. You can do this. And when you reach the top, you’ll be glad you didn’t stop. Slowly, but surely, you’ll get there. Don’t give up. You can do this. ❤️

This book helped me look at my own issues with more perspective and objectivity. I agree with the author and how there are a lot of self-help books that just tell that “you that you can do it” or “appreciate what you have” so on and so forth. Anyone could write those kinds of books that look all nice and pretty without anything that actually GIVES. But this book actually teaches you step by step what you need to do, especially how to relax your nerves and anxiety levels which was CRUCIAL for me. This is a must-read.

I wanted so badly to get out of my mind and live. By reading your books and liberating myself through your teachings I was able to be present and appreciate everything around me. Ive started to appreciate everything Ive recieved, I look to nature and the sky and it brings me energy and a sort of happiness Ive never felt before. I never thought that I would get to this point, feeling this happy and grateful for my life. Thank you so much Eckhart. Many blessings to you.

Some Buddhist monks have said depression is a state of mental exhaustion, and only by letting the mind relax by doing nothing, or somehow relaxing the mind, can the energy build up again. 'As long as you deliberately try to stop your thoughts, the thought of trying to stop them wars against the continually arising thoughts themselves, and there's never an end to it. Just don't bother with them, and then there's nothing else they can do but stop. When there's no one there to fight with, things can't help but simply come to an end of themselves.' Bankei

Enter "Alternate nostril breathing meditation videos" on Google search and do the simple meditation for 10 -15 minutes if possible twice a day. Also read the benefits of alternate nostril breathing meditation.Try not moving too much when doing this meditation. It can also be done sitting on a chair. Best wishes. Hi Hunt. I've had many struggles on and off with anxiety. Unfortunately it's been back about a year now, however unlike when I was around 23-25 (I'm 41 now) when it was social situations, public ie: lines in big stores, church, waiting rooms ie: anywhere feeling trapped), I now feel a constant nervousness all the time and in the background (pain body?). I've read Power of Now and I feel I've relentlessly tried acceptance. Tolle talks about when you literally have had enough suffering, well I feel I'm way past that point.... I've literally broke down many times crying saying I surrender, waving the mental white flag. Yet, no matter what I feel this constant fear, on edge, nervousness from the moment I wake up. Literally I wake up, and stomach starts turning (butterflies, diaharea), and I'm then anxious and on high alert rest of day. I'm keyed up, yet feel tired. I feel strangely extra sensitive to anything and everything. Little to zero tolerance for stressful things, and even things that are normal. Just sending an email, going to the bathroom, eating with family or friends - I feel nervous all the time. Despite all of this, I'm trying to just accept it, to float through the feelings, to allow them to pass. I continue to go to stores, restaurants, my kid's sports events, anything that's normal, and unlike when the issues got better in my 20's with these times, I come out of these things now feeling more nervous, more drained. I do believe Tolle is on to something, but I've been trying acceptance for months and I don't feel any improvement. My mind races constantly, can barely meditate without feeling I' going crazy. Last thing I want to point out, I had a bad trip on weed once when I was maybe 23 or 24. Smoke weed maybe 3 to 4 times ever and this was only time this happened. Horrifying experience, basically became paranoid and freaked out, full blown panic, brain felt like it was melting, literally frying. I couldn't escape it (was in apartment and had to leave my party guests in other room). Lasted an hour, was longest and scariest moment of my life (and I've been through a lot including heart procedure). Anyways, lately my head starts to feel so scared and weird, and because this is much worse then the anxiety I had 15 years ago I now have this fear it's something worse. I literally have fear I'm going to go into state of psychosis, possibly develop schizophrenia. I know this is all probably hard for people to read but everyday these thoughts cross my mind. Keep in my I have an older brother (49) who around 20 was diagnosed with schizophrenia. No matter how many doctors tell me I'm well past the point, and even having a brother, I don't have it and not going into psychosis. But my monkey mind, because I feel so scared and having the brother I think the worst. Sorry this is such a long message but these specific things are consuming me. I wish I could find somebody else on this earth who a) has anxiety disorder b) has an older sibling with major mental illness such as schizophrenia and c) perhaps had a bad trip on drugs once so he knows how scary it feels console me and tell me they got over all this. Acceptance can work for this?? Love from Canada - Mike.

Mike Corazza Hi Mike, I feel something like you! On the past Ive had many experiencies with psychedelic drugs (good and bad) and actually I smoke cannabis every day. I feel exactly the same you when awakening in the morning. I dont know why but I feel a lot of fear out of control: it causes me diaharea and panic. It is a nightmare waking up in the morning. After a feel hours I feel better, not in panic anymore. In public situations I feel very confused. Like Ive esquizophrenia, I feel very unconfortable to look into others eyes and the people realize it. Most of people think I have mental issues or think Im “crazy”. I became like this after using psychedelic drugs. The drugs made me awake spiritually but besides that it got me crazy. I cant handle public situations with a lot of people anymore and Im very sad about it. You are not alone, Mike! Sorry for my English. Peace from Brazil

@@Nick199607 Hi Nick. Thanks so much for taking time to reply. I am trying to do all the things you said and will continue to do so. There are many days I feel hopeless, feel it's impossible to get better which puts me in deeper fear and depression. However I will continue to stay strong. Question: are you practicing living in the now? Is it working for you? I feel so weird and uncomfortable at times that even stopping to meditate, focus on my breath etc make me feel even worse. My mind races, worries, ruminates on past events, worry about future events. Every moment it happens I refocus my attention on breath, feeling the sensations in body etc. But regardless, it doesn't seem to be taking the edge off. I almost feel high and it's scary :(

@@geraltvonriva9873 Benjamin, you may try to learn how to love yourself. It seems like you have the will to change since you're here and watch Eckhart's videos. This takes time and practice. It's like you've never run in your life but want to run a marathon. First it'll seem absolutely impossible. As you learn about the preparation required to run a marathon, you still probably won't trust you can do it, but you'll rely on these sources and start practicing. This might be painful. You may stumble and have to come back on your feet. But as you continue, hope will start arising. Months will pass, and then you'll develop confidence you can do it. It doesn't really matter if at the end you will or will not run a marathon. What matters is the path that will get you there. It's the same here for you. You probably feel lost and that's ok. You are a human being and as such, you are perfect. Everything you are experiencing is perfectly normal. You are human. If i take what you say here, it's a mix of facts and thoughts. You have no money may be a fact or a thought. It's all relative depending on what your reference is. But let's assume it's a fact. If you never had any girlfriend, that's a fact. No job, no friend, no social contact, these can be facts, although I'd argue you are here on KZfaq interacting with people. This is a social contact, even if I'm assuming you'd rather have actual ones instead of virtual. Now, saying you are an introvert, not good looking and that it's not very easy on this world for you at the moment are all thoughts. This is where you can start acting, with a lot of benevolence. Again, it's ok and human to have these thoughts, but I'm just saying these are not facts in the sense that you may consider them as facts, but an external observer may not agree with you, as I am for instance. Make space for these thoughts. Don't necessarily fight them. Try to identify where these thoughts are coming from, what generate them, what forms/sensations they take when you experience them. Meditation could potentially be a great exercise to help with this. The idea here is to become an observer of your thoughts, not an actor. Again, that may take time, so I would recommend to focus on being benevolent with yourself. You are not your thoughts. Believe in yourself. You can do it. You have the resources for. You just need to unlock them.

I have this at night due to overthinking. I tell myself these are/were old mechsnisms of fear probably from childhood that were useful at the time (survival) that my brain still uses as it clings to fear. This started as my life drastically changes so I had to face uncertainty. It's tough but after they pass you feel so happy that you're present. Simply that. Amazing. Thank you Eckart this video is extremely helpful.❤

I have survived 2 cardiac arrests now and near death experiences(I have a structural heart defect). Eckhart and The Power Of Now have helped me immensely. The Power of Now should be taught in every high school around the world, as well as dis-identifying from the ego. Within 2 generations, humanity would be very different, ie compassionate, kind, centred, loving instead of the dysfunctional madness we are now.

Eckhart, I totally identify with the fear you had for years and the way you described it. I start thinking about my death and diseases that will not happen and the fear just overcomes me and I literally start screaming gradually like you explained. Sometimes I have so much fear that I think I will lose my mind. Then, all of the sudden I just look back to my happy memories or go outside to catch some fresh air only to see a butterfly or a pretty bird and realize how beautiful life is. I need to be able to harness the power of now, the power of being present. The more I listen to you, the more I understand my thoughts. The key is to tackle the worrying and excessive thinking. Thank you for this channel that you gives us. Thank you, thank you.

May I add, the key isn't to "tackle" the thinking and worrying. It's not modified thinking that brings freedom, its the rising above, the transcending of it, that brings the peace. thoughts happen. That's a fact. Just see them as passing phenomenon in your awareness. Don't try. Allow the thoughts to come and go, you be that which knows the thoughts and worries are happening. Much peace to you.

Anxiety really lost its grip on my life when I learned about acceptance. Acceptance changed how my mind saw anxiety. I was no longer in a back and forth battle to become present. When the mind understands what anxiety is, you no longer feel a need to run in fear from it. You can enter the present moment more fully, because you are no longer doing it as an escape.

Just wanted to offer words of encouragement to other people becoming more present/conscious :) I had a "breakdown" the other day, i.e. an intense episode of unconscious depressive thinking, so much so that I had to call up my mum . I spoke to my mum and started crying at it was all very dramatic and emotional. At the time, my thoughts, and the story of my depression seemed so real and so important, and I was telling myself things like "I just cant let go of things, I was just never taught how to let go of things as a child". The next day I submitted a self-referral to counselling because it really was an incredibly turbulent "breakdown"... But now less than 24 hours later im sitting here, and was able to be present for just a little bit, and recognise that I can do it, and that it really is the natural state of the mind and... Well I feel almost embaressed for how I was behaving the other night. I said sorry to my mum for "making such a big deal of things" but she said some words of wisdom, namely, "when you are going through it, it seems like a big deal", now I am not giving my support or encouragement to my own unconsciousness, but this is true, and I should not feel ashamed for having this egoic episode. What im trying to say is, since I started meditating and choosing to be aware of the present moment, and also on a related note *choosing to rest my awareness on my own sense of beingness*, since engaing in these pursuits, my mental health HAS improved, and it has improved A LOT. Even after having such a turbulent emotional release (nicer word than "breakdown") yesterday, I miraculously have found my way back to the state of presence, and the pursuit of recognizing the illusion of my false self, and recognizing 'my' own beingness. I just felt like sharing this, basically what im saying is dont give up, I know that I ("i") am not "giving up" any time soon! This is also something I thought recently: When you think about it, its true that you are the universe. You are the universe experiencing itself, this is just an axiomatic observation. Right, and so am I, and so is everyone and every conscious being. Its easy to trip yourself out with this idea, I know I did when I was a teenager lisstening to Alan Watts like "Oh yeah im the universe man". But the point of this message, I think, is that we ALL are the universe! And that is way more fantastic! In this sense, it is true that we are literally all one! We are one.. Isnt that incredible? Hello! I am here! I am, haha.. ^__^ If you find Eckhart Tolle too "new age" can I also recommend that you check out Sam Harris' audiobook "waking up" - That provides a very rationalist and secular approach and guidance on the exact same topic that eckharte tolle teaches If you are intersted in more new age stuff though, particularly in manifesting the vibration of love, I can recommend that you check out Matt Kahn - after watching some of his videos I have felt immense shifts in my energy and emotions, in other words its like my heart is starting to open... Maybe thats why the intense egoic episode happened.. Matt Kahn and Sam Harris are both great teachers to supplement Eckhart Tolle is what im saying We are one

I cry every night and feel so lonely even though i surrounded with many people in my life. But now, slowly, i come to realize that the more i think about my fear, the more i waste my time and forget to living in the "now" . I pray everytime anxiety attacks me and sometimes while praying, i didn't even realized that the tears flows down to my face. God's word is very healing and soothing and it calms your anxiety. I read spiritual, inspirational and motivational books. I now realized that there is more to life than spending my time on fears. I am now tuning myself to discover my purpose in life, notice the people who are there in my life (family and true friends) and spend time with them, love them and be kind with them and share your journey with them. Avoid spending time with toxic people or people who cause you pain and suffering.

I thank you for putting it all in perspective for me. One thing I try to do is.. to not be afraid of when anxiety comes up. I try not to run away from it, but instead, just sit with it and feel it. I ask myself, what is this feeling that I'm so scared of feeling? What does it actually feel like? Doing this can significantly reduce anxiety because you're not being inundated with the fear of anxiety in addition to the anxiety itself. Doing this allows you to observe it moreso, objectively, rather than subjectively. And, you realize that this dreaded "feeling" is really nothing. It becomes like a phantom because as soon as you are willing and able to truly sit with it, it turns out that it isn't even there. It only exist outside of it. It only exists as a [fear] of it, but, it doesn't actually exist in of itself. Tho, this process may take a little time. At first, you just feel the anxious fear. And, you look at it and observe [how it feels], rather than looking at it as something that you are afraid of. In doing this, you must allow this feeling without resistance, and then just objectively observe exactly what this strange feeling feels like. Ask yourself why you are so afraid of feeling this feeling. You realize that this feeling isnt anywhere near as horrendous as you have been making it out to be. And, eventually, you realize it doesn't even exist. It was all a mirage created by your mind of something that you were avoiding due to your unwillingness to face it and feel it. So, you must feel it as resistance-free as you can. When you are in an anxious situation, allow the fearful feeling, and dont try to avoid it or escape it. Dont try to rush through the moment, but rather, just allow yourself to feel whatever feeling(s) comes up and then, observe it. Ask yourself.. what is so scary about this feeling? How bad is this feeling, really?

I used to suffer from debilitating anxiety. It was terrible. Gradually, through constant introspection, I gained some clarity. When the anxiety would strike, I would immediately come to the present, take a few deep slow breaths to stop my panting and look around for the tiger, the lion or the mad killer who caused this fear in me. There was no perceptible danger. I came to see that the fear came from a part of my mind. I would then say aloud a few times, "I am not my thoughts, I am much more than mere thoughts." I gazed internally at my fear and smiled as it evaporated. It came back many, many times and each time I performed my ritual and each time the fear grew weaker and weaker and my power grew stronger.

Dealing with fearful thoughts when you are one mishap away from homelessness is like walking a tightrope 100 stories in the air. Dealing with fearful thoughts when you have financial security is also like walking a tightrope, but only, say, a story off the ground. That's why one person's awakening and advice is only so relevant to another, especially when life circumstances can be so different.

Our mind is designed to constantly make up stories about the world and ourselves. You just have too Much imagination. Keep remembering that.

Beautiful observation and description. Fears are like wounds.. it is like powerful injured animal .. when someone comes closer to it and it starts to cry with more pain and cause more uneasiness and more unpleasant feeling but when you reach very close to it then it suddenly disappears into mist like mirage into desert giving feeling of water and disappear when coming closer to it ... then you understand that mind has created imaginary powerful animal where you do not want to go but it was unreal. When someone watches to your fear or weakness, you starts to tremble or you might lose your nerves and it happened into same way when one wants to see his own fears because mind can not differentiate between you and others ,so for mind both are same.. So one avoids to see his fears. Other reason why one avoids to see his fears is ... when someone is only interested to search for good feelings or good joyful state or happiness , so one can not go to the field where one gets uneasiness, pain or challenge. This is reason one is running in circles and not getting to point. Mind can not go at same time in two directions , so if mind kept focused on happiness then it will avoid to go where stress, anxiety, challenges comes.

I’ve had terrible anxiety and fear for years. Working from home has caused it to increase a lot. If I get out of my head and focus on something or someone else, I feel it subside. Being around my friends helps stop it too. It’s a terrible affliction to have. 😢

Watching this video makes me see that one should always learn from those who had walked through the valleys of life and experienced the sufferings brought about by our thoughts. These people have become wise because of the plights and chosen not to walk that path of longlasting sufferings again. Put simply, they have become invincible at their core. Kudos to everyone who could do this or to those who are striving to do this in their lives!!

I believe everyone of us suffer from anxiety on some level. I’d like to think it’d be abnormal to be totally anxiety free. However It only depends on us how much we let it cripple us. For some it becomes a habit and then the spiral starts. Great video! *On a side note thats a nice color, it matches you* :) Love and light to all ✨ 💜

You are very wise. Yes, we would have to be unconscious to be completely free of anxiety or fear. Like a dieter must learn to eat the right amount of food, folks with anxiety need to be shown that it's OK to feel it in normal amounts. It is the very fear of those thoughts and feelings that leads to severe and sometimes crippling anxiety in most people.

When you are fearful around people you tell yourself that its is your thought not reality but then you think what if the other person is assuming about you in a negative way and when you are out of your comfort zone your brain goes blank. Its getsss very hard to access your concious brain.
