I loved watching all the shows when there was no audience. I get that it would suck for the comedian or host while doing it, but as the consumer on our end, it was great. Most of all, we got more content because there wasn't an audience constantly interrupting with laughter and applause. A 15 minute segment gave 15 minutes of content instead of 9 minutes of content and 6 minutes of applause breaks.

I don’t know if you’ve been watching Seth Meyers, but at first I found the lack of audience disorienting. The joke pacing felt WEIRD! The silence felt awkward. But after a few episodes I was hooked! I mean HOOKED! 😂🤣 It felt like I was in on the joke somehow.

@@sirknitsalot9504 I feel like Seth's show lost a lot when the audience came back. I loved that he could just make whatever nerdy, obscure jokes he wanted to without having to worry about the audience reaction. Maybe he's better now...from clips I've seen on other shows, quoting him...nope, still stinks on ice. (The clips are not that funny, insightful or interesting, so why quote him? Depends on who produces that show I guess.) Sorry, these days I'm not much of a fan of Jon "tRump who? Him or Hillary, what's the difference? I'm here to talk about first responders!" Trevor is so comforting. Having his show on - even repeats/stand-ups in the background while wfh has really helped me keep my sanity. I can 100% see where he is coming from with the no-audience shift because zoom makes me feel super uncomfortable and it's nice to do my work without an office/coworkers observing. Not to mention the impact on my awareness and current lack thereof in terms of how others react to me or whatever other distractions occur any given day. He is paving the way for more people (introverts?!)to do this remotely without outside pressures/opinions and I'm here for it. Also here for his hoodies and lack of pants.

I LOVE that Trevor decided NOT to return to the pre-Covid format ... And I really loved what Stephen was doing during the pandemic. I really appreciated the personal vibe that came from that format and frankly, I really liked the show MUCH better without an audience... I think going back to the very old fashioned way is just really outdated & prevents new avenues & out-of-the-box thinking that I thought was really good and entertaining. I know that Stephen just can't live without an audience but I had hoped he would have kept some of the more casual elements of the pandemic format, like, no suits for example made the show feel more personal & less staged for some reason. But what's done is done I guess. But I really appreciate & love that Trevor decided to stay with something new & that he's decided to ditch the audience. He definitely took a risk but I really like the results. ☝️😎👍

I agree! Too bad we can't convince Stephen to WFH like a Casual Friday. At least we could get our 'fix' with that format. From comments online, we are not alone in this preference. I'm actually surprised the production staff or audience engagement people haven't seen all the support for the Stay-at-Home Stephen 'A Late Show' format.

You can see it quite clearly in how surprised he is that Trevor isn't going crazy about not having a live audience. Stephen is great but he's very set in his ways it seems lol. But maybe, just maybe he can be swayed to do something like your suggestion... That would be a great way to test the waters too. Great idea💡 🙂

@@whatabouttheearth Hard disagree. Seth Meyers, John Oliver and Trevor Noah really learned something from their time without an audience. Stephen is back to audience pandering as usual, which is way more awkward in my opinion. He has to pause every time the audience engages and half of the show is him reacting to the audiences reaction. I’m not saying his show is bad, I still enjoy it to some degree, but it was 82x better without the audience, for sure.

While I think it’s a very very unpopular opinion because everyone wants things to be “normal”, I fully agree. Perhaps it’s the introvert/disabled due to ptsd part of me but I haven’t found the pandemic as difficult to deal with. I truly enjoyed the more intimate approach that these shows had to take. I’m not a shut in or anything lol but I also have found it hard to go back to the original formats after the more direct intimate one. The only show which isn’t quite the same ,since it’s once a week, that I have no issue continue to enjoy, is last week tonight. Of course I miss “the void” but John Oliver made it seamless and the HBO budget certainly helped that. But yes. I fully understand people happy to have things as they were but I’m with you on feeling differently.

@@Okiedoritos I feel that Oliver had to get back into a room with an audience as he started going off on tangents that made his show hard to follow. Noah thrived better with no audience and made his Daily Show unique from Stewart's version. Stewart's new show shows why Stewart had to leave when he left; he can not deliver his unique taking shots at both sides approach and shows his political leanings too much for fans of his era of the Daily Show. So, in summary, I'm split 50/50 on this but prefer Noah's approach with how his comedy works. Oliver and even Stephen, to an extent, need an audience so they don't get sidetracked, and Stephen works off his audience.

I'm with Trevor on this and support his decision! I loved when Colbert was doing his shows from home! It was still funny but in a more intimate, personable way and the commentary was much sharper than it ever could be on a stage. Maybe it's because I'm an introvert, but I really loved the pandemic versions of all these political talk shows, and face it, they're all political now because it's what people want. For me, it was sad to see them go back into the studios with live audiences. So I get what Trevor is doing now! The only one who I did not enjoy in pandemic mode was Bill Maher. He never embraced it for what it was. He just couldn't be flexible and only saw the negatives of the situation. That made it uncomfortable to watch.
