Do you think GRRM met with his publisher to discuss a release date for Winds of Winter?

George finishing the series is the story we agree to tell each other over, and over...

George is the type that when he dies he will have us all on a goose chase to find out where he hid the book like Ready Player One

I am keeping my fingers crossed for Winds. I am old, I probably have about 20 years left in me, I hope I get to see it completed. Keep going George, don't get discouraged.

If I had of known it would be 20 years to finish reading this series I wouldn’t have begun reading them and waited instead! By the time it’s done I will have to start reading them all again just to remember the story 😂

If he does finish the final books, they'll for sure be on my wish list

The problem with people saying he should split the books is that I guarantee the reason its taking so long is because he keeps writing himself into a corner (not hard given how insanely complex the world he made is) and has to go back and REWRITE over and over again. Publishing one half of the story will trap him and may make it impossible to maintain quality going forward.

He ABSOLUTELY should split Winds of Winter in 2 parts! And spring too!

the idea of Part 1 and Part 2 is a good one for us the fans . But old George would be on the fence about I reckon as he is then committed to the Part 1 story line onwards and cannot go back and alter it if it becomes a problem plot wise for the finishing off of Part 2 and the last Novel.

If/when he announces Winds of Winter release date, I will immediately begin my reread of the whole series. I have been craving a reread for so long, but I’ve been holding out starting it bc I want it to be fresh for WoW!

I had the same thought months ago. The publisher should take the first half of the book and release it to the public. It will buy GRRM more time to complete the book.

The thing to remember is that even though Winds has taken so long, it does not necessarily follow that Spring will take as long. George could be having massive trouble with Winds but know everything that's going into Spring.

I doubt we will ever see Winds of Winter. Eight spinoff shows?? I'd be surprised if he ever wrote (or finished) another book.

I really hope wins of winter comes out next year maybe in maybe in December of next year that would be the perfect time because the book is called wins of winter, but if it comes sooner that would be awesome

I think a good ending point after the Dance would be the return of Viserys since it gives Aegon III and the audience some much-needed hope.

There are sooo many unanswered questions, I long for the Winds of Winter and and only guess what the Dream of Spring could bring. We bibliophiles can only mourn the loss of answers.

He said he is not sure if he can finish it till 2025, which means that he probably won´t finish it till 2027. He said he still has 400+ pages to go. He said in 2011 he already had 400-500 pages written for winds. He said the book would be around 1500+ pages. He therefore took 12-13 years to write about 50% of the book. That means his statement that he is about 75% done is accurate. In conclusion: He still has 25% of the journey to go, which, at this tempo, would mean another 5-6 years. If we give him some leeway, 2027 is an optimistic but also realistic date, but its more likely to be released around 2028-2030.

Breaking News: We'll Never Read The Ending To GoT George has written a total of 1100 pages in 10 years and Zero pages within the last year. Now he wants another 8 spin off shows bases off a story that he'll never finish.

What scares me is he has said he has a our 1100 pages written, then he said that exact figure a year later. I really think his schedules jam packed with fun trips, meetings, events, award shows, and then thrown in with the minutia of everyday life turned up to 11 for a guy with massive means and wealth. I fear in his mind he's already made it to the moon and doesn't really need the rocket ship that got him there anymore, the rocket sits there unused and his plans are more of "one day" commemorating it as just one of a large number of exhibits of his success. Instead of hopping back in the jump seat and taking that hard dangerous ride into the unknown only legends have made it to but with that comes the danger of crashing and burning. Why do that when he already inhabits the success and admiration few authors will ever reach, he's comfortable being a generational talent when instead his books could be seen as one of the defining massively popular books of the 21st century. I think him seeing season 8 flame out and how even the most successful TV show in the history of TV itself can completely unravel and gain the derision amd hate of not jusy a small part of the fans but damn near the entire fanbase entirely flipped to not just finding not alot to like about season 8 and just having the show fizzle put on a lower note after a series of intense highs, but to actually be so universally hated and scorned that it's lowest low is seen as more gargantuan than even the highest heights it ever reached. I just don't think he wants to gamble his entire legacy away on the whims of the people. But what he should understand is he got to where he is by gambling on himself and the only reason the show blew put so terrificly is bc he gave his dice through to two professional TV guys, not story tellers. While the TV show was really rolling for a while it did go up and down every season some being better than others and not each season even in the good Era being better than the last consecutively. But with everyone of George's actual pure works written by only him the fans obsession admiration and anticipation has grown 10 fold with every entry. He needs to remember he's george rr Martin great writer and author, not george rr martin pretty good TV producer.

I'm seeing a possiblity that if they take what they need from the current 1100 manuscript pages to form a workable Winds of Winter Part 1 and publish it, the positive feedback from the readers (assuming it's good) might give George the boost in motivation and inspiration he needs to finish the second half.

George is going to shock us all someday by announcing release dates for Winds of Winter AND Dream of Spring, secretly working and completing them simultaneously

I'm almost finished with my first reading of A Game of Thrones, and i read multiple genres at a time, so hopefully by the time i catch up Winds of Winter will be released 🤞

"A Dream of Spring" Won't be finished by George. The unfinished pages will be left for someone else to finish, like Frodo finishing "There and Back Again" for Bilbo. Hopefully George at least outlines the broad strokes of the story, so whoever writes it can stay true to the intended story.

I plan on buying the audiobooks and ebooks versions and then sitting on them. I might read them, but atleast I will have the other books when last books finally comes out. I expect a similar situation to happen to George RR Martin that happened to Robert Jordan (and another author take over ..... Someone who will finish the series)!

I would not be surprised if it took (at least) three volumes to finish the "trilogy" he envisioned so long ago. His writing style would seem to produce all sorts of dead ends and mysteries. But it is a world he has completely invented, and I appreciate the work of such creation. There is no real way to be sure how much he has really completed. The POVs could end up in one book or the other, probably with only minor changes to account for other events outside the scope of a particular POV. It is a challenging way to write, as is almost a "random walk", but there is such interesting texture to the writings, I can't really complain. As a side note, I suspect that had HBO realized how far GRRM was from finishing, they would never have signed off on the project in the first place. That it became such a hit could not have been anything they would have expected and I appreciate D&D's bringing it to life as powerfully as they did. Yeah, yeah, I know ... everyone grouses about stuff. But this was a far more powerfull series than anyone had an idea it could be. Hence, "House of the Dragon" and others to follow. Well, my opinion, anyway ...

He's probably at the point that instead of rewriting like he was talking about that he just screw it it's good enough and wrapped things up to get it over with.

George and I are of similar age and I fear one of his will kick the bucket before WOW is finished.

You would think he has some type of succession plan. A massive amount of notes and a detailed map of where the story is supposed to go and how it will end. It would be such a shame to never finish the story

It doesn’t really sound like a major thing meeting his publisher. I really can’t get excited about the bulk until there is an actual confirmed release date. 1100 pages could be two books. If he has the first half of the story written, they should release it! But I know he really doesn’t work that way unfortunately.

I loved reading the books and seeing how GoT played out in the show. Now with HoTD I know the ending but for some reason it's much less appealing. Maybe because we didn't know the actual ending of the GoT show where as in HoTD we know how it ends. Just knowing what happens makes me just like...meh. anyone else?

Why should he ever publish that book? He already fullfilled most of his thoughts about that story via the tv-show. And he probably saw how badly people reacted to certain aspects, like Bran becoming King, Daenerys burning KL and getting killed by Jon etc (which most likely happens in the books as well) so he either has to rewrite his whole book which already took him years or just leave it be....

I remember George asking Steven King how he puts out content so quickly and didn't think much of it at the time. Now I am very concerned lol
