I think the most poetic thing would have been for Jaime to kill Cersei in the same way he did the mad king. To stop her from doing something awful before she lost/died, and showing Jaime did actually care about the common people.

It's interesting that during the final couple of seasons, and especially the last season, the actors portraying he roles had to close ranks and put on happy, united faces. Only now, when things have been over for several years, are they finally opening up about their true feelings on the ending of the show. And to no-one's surprise they thought it sucked.

There were so many great choices for endings, other than the one they gave us. They'll never admit they phoned it in to reduce the writing. The Night King was never on A's radar. I miss so many of the great characters. The Academy robbed these actors. Great episode. Thanks.

Theon should have gotten to kill Euron, Jon should have gone through Grey Worm, and Arya should have killed Cerse after she ended Jaime. Jon of course should have been the one to end the night king, after the night king killed Bran. But Anything would have been better than what we got.

It's somewhat cathartic to hear that the actors felt the same about the GoT ending as its fans. Even though, I've read posts from some viewers who were fine with the ending. In my opinion, anyone who really thought about the its storyline and invested in its characters knows that the ending was a debacle.

Just about anything would have been a better ending. It was a betrayal by D&D of not only the fans but HBO, GRRM, and the cast and crew who worked so hard on the show with very little recognition of their efforts. I hope D&D never get another opportunity to ruin another show.

Something like it. Dany flies into Kingslanding on Drogon on her way to the Red Keep. Cersei sets off the remainder of the Wildfire, setting off fires through the city. Jamie, who had arrived just a day before, is in shock, horrified that Cersei who he believed that she had agreed to concede to Dany. Along his way to confront Cersei, he catches Arya outside the throne room. She tells him her plan. And he tells her that if anyone she do the deed, that he would be better suited for it. He reveals to he why he was named the Kingslayer. That he knows what he must do, but that he could not bare to live without his sister. He tells her that since they were born into this world together, that they should leave the world together. He then tells Arya that he and Cersei were lovers and that he pushed Bran out of the window to keep that a secret. Arya settles Jamie’s concerns by giving him a vial of poison. Telling him that he will only have minutes to have it out with Cersei before the poison takes effect. She then tells him, that if he fails, that she will finish it. Jamie drinks the poison and goes in todo what he must. After a few minutes of yelling at each other, Jamie realizes that madness has completely consumed his sister. And then become dizzy and sick as the poison starts to take effect. They embrace for one final kiss. And then Jamie starts to choke her, telling her with his last words that he had killed the mad King just for trying to burn down the city, and that he would be a hypocrite for not repeating his judgement on Cersei who actually did it. Jamie looses all strength. And Cersei finally breaks down. While she’s morning over her dying brother, her lover, she realizes that she is not alone. She looks up, and between her tears, her madness and Arya’s hood, she mistakes her for Tyrion. Arya tells her why she is there and what she intends to do. She slashes Cersei with the dagger, so quick that Cersei couldn’t even see the movement. Cersei confesses that her father’s death wasn’t her fault. That she had believed that Ned would’ve taken the Black and was to be set to the Wall to join the Nights Watch. Before she can finish getting all of the words out, she starts to choke. Arya tells her that the dagger was poisoned with the same poison that killed her son. Arya turns to leave, the last name on her list finally crossed out. Cersei and Jamie give there last breaths together on the floor, holding hands, side by side. Arya is last scene leaving Kingslanding on the white horse.

I think Cersei should have been the one who goes so mad that Jamie has to kill her the way Jon killed Deni.

Technically the night king and White walkers should’ve come to Kingslanding makes it more brutal and more in line with the story

The Writers should have took suggestions from the cast. Lena's ending would have been terrific.

I agree that Arya wearing a Jaime face to get close enough to strangle and then use Needle to quiet Cersei in her last moments and Arya telling Cersei how those who would protect her and whom she trusted gave in for only a face. It would have fulfilled the prophecy and Arya's list in some way. I just want to hear Jaime say "I am nobody" and leave Cersei thinking that he is the one who ended her as he turns and pulls off the mask and throws it to the floor. The Hound taking on the Mountain would have knocked another off her list, but I pray Arya could have intervened in that fight somehow to have the Mountain only be ended. I am wishing the characters / actresses / actors were able to submits ideas right about now as they could have done a much better job.

1000% that would've been a way better ending and it would've satisfied so many storylines that we were so invested in seeing end they way they should've ended instead we got slapped in the face. I can't wait to see how George decides to finish telling the story.

It would have made far more sense for Arya to complete her list and Jon to defeat the Night King. The end of GoT was just such a mess, we could probably offer a different ending for every character, that would be an improvement.

The show can be reset if it starts back at Bran in the one eyed raven's tree. The show runners could say everything we saw was a possible future and I would accept that.

The whole face switching stuff was a bit silly, but it was even sillier with Maisie being 4’6” and pretending to be 6’ tall blokes. Anyway, it would still have been better than the Cersei ending we got.

My ideal ending for Cersei would have been for Cersei to mine the city with wildfire, intending to set it off and destroy King's Landing out of spite to deny Daenerys the gratification of taking it. The real Jaime finds out, and is horrified to discover that his once-beloved sister has become his greatest nightmare: Another Mad King Aerys, willing to slaughter thousands for her own gratification. So he strangles her to prevent that, just as Maggy the Frog prophesied decades ago. Cersei breaks free just long enough to rasp out that Jaime was the valonqar, not Tyrion, with an expression of shocked betrayal on her face. Jaime grabs her again and finishes the job with tears in his eyes, as he can't help loving her despite it all. Just as it makes more sense for Jon to kill the Night King rather than Arya, it makes more sense for Jaime to kill Cersei. Arya has killed a boatload of people on her list; she'll have to pull up her big girl panties and deal with not getting to kill Cersei. 😉

I just hope the snow sequel gets to see the light of day. Then the ending won't be as bad. As we will get to see the fall out from what transpired in that last season.

Who killed Cersi is less important than who became King and who killed the knight king .. your right that it would of been logical that Jon killed the Night King .. but also Become King .. since he was the last true aire to the throne !!!

It would’ve been funnier to have Arya acting as Jaime, rescuing Cersei from the collapsing building to make her think she has a chance and she’s living and she’s being saved, and then Arya reveals her self ins splits her throat. Perfect

I would have thought that Jamie died during the long night since he was technically crippled as a swordsman from losing his right hand but we didn’t see his death until Cersei was confronted by Jamie in the red keep. She tries to kiss him but has the sword impaled into her and we see the sword in the right hand. She looks down and is confused until Aria takes Jamie’s face off and says “traders die” going back to her father’s death in season 1. That’s how I would have liked it.

Lena got jazzed up about the wight in the Dragonpit, she loves this stuff so it makes perfect sense. Such a shame the writers didn't get the actors input for their endings.

Arya would have never let Cersei think it was Jaime that killed her. Arya 100% would have wanted Cersei to see her face as she died.

It's a creative idea, but it wouldn't work because Arya is a different height and stature compared to Jaime Lannister. Just because she wears the face of Jaime Lannister doesn't mean that she gets to be the same height. It would look kind of weird. The idea is interesting, though.

I absolutely prefer Lena's ending. I also considered Ayra killing Cersei wearing Jamie's (or Qyburn's) face. Those idiots, Dave and Dan should never be able to create, write or produce a show or film again. Despite the horror that was season 8, Game of Thrones is still my favorite series. Unfortunately after two attempts, I can only watch my favorite episodes instead of all eight seasons.

What about Danni’s heal turn. Like she did have the vision of the Red Keep being destroyed which is a GRRM idea from the books so how was this wrong for the show. Also Prince/princess who was promised and Arya didn’t want to be a princess and was always destined to kill “death”. Jon was always the King really anyway. Maybe the whole time we were ment to worry about the “Ice/winter/snow” threat when the “fire” threat was overlooked. I really think GRRM had a similar ending in mind but is trying to change it cos of reactions.

Cersei dying at Arya's hands would have been a very satisfying scene. Only Arya isn't very tall. How could she be believed to be Jaime? Wearing his face doesn't automatically give her his height

I personally like the idea of all the major events/choices that played out were really the 3ec and/or Bran. 3ec made Jamie push Bran out the window, made Tommen jump out of the window, made Dany unleash on kings landing, and set up the events leading to Arya killing the night king cause he was the only one who knew the truth and could stop him. I also think the 3ec could have been controling littlefinger the whole time while Varys was controlled by whatever dark magic his geneitals were used for. They should've put flashes of full white eyes on the people right before they did what they did to show the control. "You were exactly where you were supposed to be"- Bran to Jon at the last scene of them together.

We all wanted three things from the ending and we only got one - The Hound and The Mountain facing off leading to the death of both. What we didn't get was Arya killing Cersei disguised as Jamie and either John Snow killing The Night King or The Night King killing John Snow then all of Westeros

I fan wrote an Emding scene for C+J.... Well it was a Lot of them ... Basicly, Arta, Sansa, YheHound, jamie Gendry and a couple others do a Special Mission to sneak into the red keep... G inows yhe Exterior hidden ways, Arya knows the hidden passages, Sansa and Jamie know the interior better....and cercis habits ... Big fight.... Arya saves the hound so the hound can kill his bro, sansa gets some background helping.... Arya gets mortaly wounded and wargs into Nymeria who then "bexomes sansas wolf (completing BOTH journeys, Arya protecting and loving S, and replacing Lady, Sansa realizing how much A meant to her)

I always thought that Jon should have confronted the Night King. Imagine if he was in combat with Him but it looked hopeless as the Walkers tightened a ring around Him and Bran. Arya comes flying out of nowhere to do the same trick but it gets blocked only to Have Jon stab him with Longclaw. Teamwork takedown...... so many cool changes could have happened.

Not a perfect ending but I definitely would've liked it better than what we got. Furthermore, imagine if the way Arya gets Jaime's face is after HE dies killing the Niteking. His name would live on as the NiteKing-Slayer instead of just the KingSlayer, and we'd get to have that cool "face off" between Cersei & Arya.

I had actually proposed this ending before the final episode aired (or maybe after, I can't remember now). It would have played out like this... The Hound, accompanied by Arya, confronts the Mountain and the two brothers fight as before. Cersei and Jaime flee to another area of the castle pursued by Arya. When Arya catches up with them, Jaime tells Cersei to go on ahead and lock the door... he'll handle Arya. From Cersei's point of view, she hears sword fighting in the other room, then Jaime emerges into the room having seemingly killed Arya. The two embrace and Cersei is shocked to find a knife in her belly, as Arya removes her Jaime face. Arya would want Cersei to know that it was her that ended both Jaime and Cersei. I just really felt like Arya got rooked out of her revenge on Cersei.

It really feels like D&D only wanted to wrap things up easily and that their wish was just to surprise viewers, not make something logical. The show needed seasons 7, 8 and 9 to have 10 episodes, and probably even a 10th season. Minimum, and that's without adding any new book characters... Really I'm confident D&D just wanted to subvert expectations for the sake of it, which is bullshit. I'm not against subverting expectations at all, after all GRRM does it a lot, but Jon being useless against the night king passed the moment when we think he's going to confront it but the night king raises the dead in S8E3, is really disappointing. Just stuck by Vyserion. And his parentage didn't care one bit in the end either. But they had to place it because it was setup, so it needed a minimum of payoff. The worst thing for me is not Daenerys going mad and burning King's Landing, although it is rushed and happens in an absurd way just when the city capitulates, but the worst is the white walkers. They've been set up as the ultimate threat for 7 seasons, and in the end, they last 3 episodes passed the wall. The series had to make a decision on whether the ultimate confrontation was to be the living against the dead, or an ultimate confrontation for the iron throne, and they chose the latter. I disagree with that, but OK. But still, the white walkers are eliminated waaaaay too fast. I wished the "North" side had lost at Winterfell and was forced on the run south, something like that. That Winterfell was not the ultimate (and only) battle, and that the white walkers would not be a threat just for the north. That they marched passed the neck, with Jon and Dany trying to ambush them with the 2 dragons advantage, but that failing, and that the walkers reached King's Landing, or Oldtown, and spread over multiple places to destroy everyone. And that Jon managed to kill the night king only in King's Landing, in a battle that would both be the ending against the white walkers, AND the decision for the iron throne. As for Cersei's death, this choice would have been quite nice, the good choices for people killing her were obviously Jaime, Arya or Sansa. Sansa is almost never mentioned. It could also have ended up with Cersei cornered and her begging Sansa to let her live and flee with Jaime, him refusing and she'd commit suicide. OR Sansa accepting but Arya killing her. There were so many good possibilities.

That would have been an unjustified ending for Jaime. My biggest problem with that finale was that he didn’t get an ending deserving of his redemption arc. This ending would have been even worse.

Jamie is way taller than Arya her killing him and taking his face to trick cerise wouldn’t have been realistic at least her and Frey were the same height so it’s easier for her to get away

My ideal show ending vs ideal book ending have very different outcomes. In the show I wanted to see Sansa on the Iron Throne with Tyrion at her side. Jon would take out Dany before she got around to burning king’s landing, it would bring him full circle mirroring what happened with Ygritte. Clearly the unsullied would have taken issue with their Queen being killed but those who witness why dragon fire could do first hand would keep them from right out killing Non. Arya would have gotten to take down Cersei after surviving the battle for the living where she and Gendry fought back to back. Meera and Bran would have continued on as a partnership with hints at a romance brewing. Jaime would have turned out to be Azor Ahai after Brienne fell in battle only for the night king to raise her as a wight, he’d stab her through the chest with Widow’s Wail and pulled it out only for it to burst into flames transforming it to Lightbringer.

Technically ceresi would’ve put wildfire around Kings Landing because she mad grieving and loss of her dead child original ending that’s more like it

Her training fight with Brienne was totally amazing and can't lie it was pretty cool and unexpected how she has killed the Nightking but else of that.. and what happened to Nymeria? Why did they show her and then didn't make her and her pack appear again

Jon would have been too obvious, if they really wanted to shock the public, they could have had Sam kill the night king in a "Lyanna Mormont" kind of heroic gesture (without necessarily have him die doing so)!

💯for Jon getting the long-awaited 1 vs 1 duel with the NK. He drops Longclaw during the fight, Arya throws him the VS Catspaw dagger, and Jon destroys the NK, thus fulfilling the Targaryen prophecy. Arya using Jaime's face to whack Cersei would still give Maisie a huge woo-hoo moment. We all cheered when she took out the Freys, so this would be even better.

As someone who watched the show late I didn’t mind the ending. I do think that would’ve have been a more poetic ending. But I don’t think it fits the idea of the show. The show is about pain and not getting the ending you THINK should happen. Like when the Mountain won the duel, or when Ned was killed. The show constantly subverted expectations so why should the ending be any different? While I think there are a lot of more “fun” endings, the one we got felt the most thematic and “right”.

I agree with her ! This would’ve been better . I don’t mind much Arya killing the knight King because it was a great scene . Your right she was not connected to that story . She had her kill list . She should’ve been able to finish it . Jon shouldn’t killed the knight King.
