Oh my gosh, that show on VHS is such a core memory! A contemporary version sounds incredible.

Tim Haines is actually making a separate 8 part prehistory series for NBC called surviving earth. Delivery date September, airing date either late 2024 or early 2025 :)! Definitely also stay tuned for that!!!

If you grew up in the Untied States, Walking With Dinosaurs had Avery Brooks doing the narration instead. It'd be wild if they brought him back for when it airs on PBS. I'd never even heard Tim Haines until I bought the dvd from Borders years later (yeah, Borders. Remember them?) and was genuinely surprised.

Woah; I knew about the Ben Stiller-narrated "Prehistoric Planet" version but had no idea about Avery Brooks. The whole idea of someone other than Brannagh narrating the original series is really hard for me to imagine 🤣

Kenneth Branagh was the BBC narrator, Tim Haines was the creator and director

I really hope they show the Triceratops with quills. In case none of you knew... they discovered Tricerotops skin fossilized, and it had these indents that are similar to porcupine skin... because they both have QUILLS. At least that's the theory going around now. Not gonna lie, it made so much sense, considering their defenses always seemed a little lackluster against predators. Like, modern herbivore animals with horns are BIGGER than their predators, so they can rely on their bulk to defend as well as their horns. Triceratops don't get that luxury, especially when T. Rex has the height advantage. Quills kinda make sense.

The quills weren't found on Triceratops; they were on Psittacosaurus. Ben G. Thomas did a great video on it :) : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJeTdLtezLqliZ8.html&pp=ygUOcHNpdHRhY29zYXVydXM%3D

@@geoduckgeoscience4300 That is pretty cool! But I’m talking about Lane the Triceratops at the Hall of Paleontology. She not only still had all her toes, but even mummified skin. Which has pockmarks that heavily implies quills or perhaps large decorative feathers. I only just found out about it recently and I’ve been telling all my friends cause it BLEW my mind!

My friend, *I* want to make a Prehistoric Plankton Documentary. A detailed look at how much and how little ocean ecology has changed over the history of life on Earth!? That would be FANTASTIC! Hit me up if you wanna talk about that!

What I loved about Walking with Dinosaurs as a kid and to this day is it basically treated the history of the age of the dinosaurs as a story of the rise and fall of a great empire. The first episode shows the dinosaurs humble beginnings and shows them slowly rise to dominance over other Triassic creatures. The next few episodes show the dinosaurs at the height of their power and glory as well as other reptiles of the times and the final episode shows their fall. Prehistoric Planet was a great show at showcasing the world 66 million years ago but it doesn't feel like it has any point or overarching story. I don't consider this a flaw as you could argue nature doesn't have any intrinsic meaning besides what we assign to it but with Walking with Dinosaurs there is more than just the story of the dinosaurs but it had a grander meaning about how all kingdoms fall and death comes for us all. It wasn't just a good documentary but was good storytelling. Its why its so well remembered decades later despite its inaccuracies and dated visuals. I hope this new series recaptures the original series themes and storytelling while updating the visuals and the science that haven't aged well in the original series.
personally i would love to see an episode set in the yixian formation, would be awesome to see the many diverse feathered dinosaurs, mammals and pterosaurs! also yutyrannus is my favorite dinosaur
