Any thoughts on spec'ing the RS W12D2 (2DVC Variant) in the shallow enclosure, so that you can wire up to 4 ohm at 500w RMS w/R2 A-75M in a single sub application vs running 750W RMS at 2 ohm in the 4DVC Variant?

It actually moves 27mm one-way. The 20mm rating is likely something based on gap, topology, and coil dimensions or from THD testing and represents linear movement. Don't sell your product short! Many shallow subs can do 20mm xmech but none can do 20mm linear. I would love to know more about the shorting ring(s)/ Farraday shielding if any, Klippel testing, and motor strength. The previous version of this subwoofer had a lot of detailed Klippel testing shown. Previous version also looks to have twice as much neodymium magnet on it. Must be why the QTS is so high on this newer one. Seems like the old gen had more xmech and more motor strength for a low Q. This newer version has the dual gap and rear mounting, which is really cool but some cost cutting in the magnet size. Unless there is some limitation in packaging of the motor, but that's not obvious to me.

Im not understanding how the sub is mounted in the loaded enclosure. Is there a double baffle in the front and back or single baffle but there is extra thickness with additional front and rear trim faces? The back looks like an extra meta trim ring with the R logo which I didnt see on the sub woofer itself. How thick are the box walls and how thick are the trim faces. How does the loaded box look without the trim faces, just sub and the primary box walls no trim or grill and the side profile pls? Also is there a link to just the grill pic i just want to understand how it mounts to the sub.

So the suitcase is made of super thin particle board. So thin you have to use the speaker to brace the box.

I have a type r but in a small box. Was wondering if i used this instead cause it doesn't take up as much basket space inside the box, would it make the difference in inclosure? How i make since

Keep in mind that the shallow version is almost double the cost of the normal one. So your paying for the shallow design. If you don't absolutely need a shallow sub your better off with what you currently have. These are also only recommended for sealed boxes.

Alpine can you please answer. I have this AMAZING sub!!! Thanks. I got the alpine 600 watt output as this is 600 watt rms. What is the reason he suggest multiple times in video to buy the R2-A75M? Anyone reading. A MUST BUY.

The R2-A75M is just the best matching mono amp we have for this specific subwoofer. Really gets the most out of these.

I have the Apline R2-SB10V... basically the gen 2 r series 10 because the standard 12 would not fit in my convertible trunk... would it be worth upgrading to the shallow 12? Or not much of an upgrade... the new r series 10s hit better than I expected...

If you are tight on trunk space I think the shallow 12 is a really good option but I think it would be about comparable to the same power and performance as your current 10.

I’m trying to run two of these. 10 inches. Do I get 2 ohm or 4 ohm? If I want to run two subwoofers?

Depends on what amplifier you use with it/them. Wiring a pair of dual 4-ohm subs all in parallel will get you 1-ohm. Most car sub amps are optimized for 1-ohm.

When you said 20mm of cone travel I thought you meant in total. No, that's one way linear! So 40mm peak to peak linear and 50mm peak to peak mechanically! That's very impressive! Ps, is Alpine using a new word "linear" or are you just pronouncing it funny?

You can pronounce it either Linear or Lanier. Different US geos lean one way or the other. When folks say Lanier, it always reminds me of the big lake NE of Atlanta

I thought 20mm one-way was a typo as well, until I verified with a few other sources. This is the highest xmax shallow mount sub on the market that I have been able to find thus far. If I'm wrong, someone please let me know!

That looks really similar to my JL 13TW5V2 that your Alpine PDX M6 burned out in my truck! I had to pay $280 to get the sub reconed by JL because of Alpine's design deficiency that they did nothing to address or correct.

Your ham fist on the knob and sending too much power for too long has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Alpine's amplifier design. I assure this amplifier, if correctly installed, does much more than rated clean power. Less than 1% distortion. You need to learn to use your equipment properly. User error 100%.

I wont be identical as there are different specs and materials used in the shallow vs standard subs. That being said, the overall bass performance on these shallow woofers is pretty close to our standard R models and most people cannot tell the difference, especially in the 12" shallow enclosure.
