UPDATE: I added the ThinkTank Photo Exposure 13 to the mix in this review here: • Three 13-inch Messenge...
I compare two great bags in this video. The Peak Design Everyday Messenger 13, the bag I took to Germany, Czech Republic and Poland last year, and the Tenba DNA Messenger 13, the bag I'm taking to Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina this year.
I'll walk you through the details of each bag and which one I like best going forward.
Thanks for watching, and don't forget, if you need any temporary gear, let me know. I'm always happy to help. brentrentslenses.com

Thnaks for your detailed review of the two "messenger" bags Brent. I definetly agree with your choice of the Tenba DNA Messenger 13 bag. I'm impressed with the small amount of gear you carry with you o your trips. I'm impressed on your choice of lenses, and just one camera body. I like your approach to speaking clearly and not to fast for me to trake notes. Thanks again! 👍 📷 😎

Probably the only comparison video on these 2 products. Even when I purchased the Tenba 13, there was not a single video on these two. I had to research a lot n then decided to go for the Tenba. While Peak Design by no means an inferior bag, I favoured Tenba for the same reasons u mentioned here. Nice video. Thanks.

The Tenba DNA line is just perfect. I like Peak design (capture, etc.) But clearly the messenger line is overpriced and inferior to Tenba. No question. Well done!

Thanks for this. I like the way you calmly went through both and pointed out how each bag mattered to you for real trips. I have been looking at both bags (and size variants), this was the most helpful video by far.

I felt like this was more of a "Whats in my bag" video. I was hoping to see more on the main compartment. Good video on the other stuff though. Gave me some interesting ideas. Thanks

I know this is an older review, but it is still a great one. I was on the fence between these two bags. You cleared up all of my questions. Great Job.

I have the DNA message bag. I think it’s a great bag only let down is the magnet dips on the front always seem to slid off.

Tenba bags are well thought bags, no doubt, but they have one major flaw. I owned two of them, the DNA shown here and the previous generation, with the kind of military fabric. After a few years (around 4 for both) of daily use, the shoulder strap broke exactly the same way: the metal clip just couldn’t bear the normal weight of my gear (I use a mirrorless system, so no overweight here) and ripped of the socket, leaving only the hand strap to carry the bag. Twice the same failure makes Tenba bags a no go for me now.

Hi! Nice review! I have a Question: Is there a key leash in the Tenba DNA? Or a designated space for your keys when using the bag as an EDC bag? Greetings from Austria
@BrentBerghermPhotography
@BrentBerghermPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
There's not a key leash, but there are two pockets on the flap that are zippered and one on the back and one inside that are also zippered. Hope this helps.

I'm struggling to choose between the 13 and 15 slim... i'm leaning towards the lower profile but bigger 15.
@BrentBerghermPhotography
@BrentBerghermPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
If you've got a smaller mirrorless system like the Fuji or Sony a6xxx then the slim model would be fine for you I'm sure, and would still allow a regular notebook computer to be hauled about. I like the smaller size myself, but I tend to not have a bunch of gear to haul about, and if I do, I go with a backpack to better distribute the weight.

Great comparison video Brent. I was lucky enough to live near a retail store that carried both bags. I really wanted to love the Peak Design as I have other products of theirs that I love. However, I did a side by side comparison and felt that the Tenba met my needs more and like you said, was easier on the budget. The DNA 13 was great, but when the Tenba Cooper Slim came out, I switched over to it. It's not as bulky a bag and is very stylish looking.
@BrentBerghermPhotography
@BrentBerghermPhotography 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and that's great on the Cooper slim. I too like that bag but not sure it'd fit my 5D4 with l bracket attached like the DNA 13 does. Cheers!

What about the Cooper 13 then? That should fit I guess? I'm currently trying to decide between a Cooper 13 and an Everyday Messenger 13... both have their advantages and disadvantages it seems. The Everyday Messenger needs proper exterior pockets for water bottles (even if it is small ones...). The Tenba seems to take lenses too, which is quite convenient at times. However I want to carry 5, soon perhaps more small lenses, and I need quick access to all of them. Being able to origami my way around the bag, instead of having the lens covered by a velcro divider that I need to get around to get access is a big advantage, too. Price is similar for both. I see lots of content for the DNA series, and much more yet for the Peak Design, but not as much for the Cooper. :(

Hi Mr. Bergherm, I heard that you mentioned the Wi Fi Hot Spot, what is if??
@BrentBerghermPhotography
@BrentBerghermPhotography 5 жыл бұрын
That's a device I used for connecting to the cell tower networks and it then produces a wifi signal to connect my phone or computer. Now that I have an iPhone 8 plus I just use that. I have the mifi device by novotel. (i think that's what it was anyway.

At 12:15, you start to demo a smaller strap that can be added when the upper shoulder strap is 'cross body' but it's not clear to me what the purpose of that lower strap is. What's it for?
@BrentBerghermPhotography
@BrentBerghermPhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. Yes it is a bit confusing since I took the bag off and the lower strap was not lengthened. It's for wrapping around your waist to connect to the contact point on the shoulder strap. It provides a bit of stability to the bag to keep it from bopping about as you walk.

What size MacBook computer did you pulll out of the Tenba bag?
@BrentBerghermPhotography
@BrentBerghermPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
It would have been the 13" if it was in the little padded compartment. The 15" fits between the ICU and the computer compartment, but then there's no padding along the bottom/edges to protect it.

Brent, Great video, for the past two years I have been "preparing" to start my KZfaq channel myself.... I struggle with the time to shoot, edit and post consistently, however, I digress. I wanted to give you a pro tip to help you out. Put an Amazon affiliate link to the products you're reviewing and show in your video. I like your GoPro case and but have no idea which one you have, if I used your link and buy anything off Amazon in the next 24 hours you could make a little $$. I don't work for Amazon just trying to help a fellow man out. You leaving extra money on the table. Keep up the great work!

I own a Tenba DNA 11 and a Peak Design 15" everyday messenger (gen 1). Tenba wins by a mile. Peak Design bag costs 2~3 times more than the Tenba bag. It's too heavy that it's not functional for me. I just leave it at home to keep gears.

If a tripod worked in the past it will work now. I have a 1972 TiltAll tripod and its working just fine.. it looks like hell, just like my gear which is a tool and should look like a tool. You know, like a shovel, hammer, wheel borrow.
