Today I'm talking about real estate coaches, primarily Brian Buffini and Tom Ferry. And the reason I'm bringing these guys up is because I've been... I'm a huge fan of real estate coaching. I've been coached for say the last six years. I believe it's very helpful for your business. It's helpful for both new agents and seasoned agents. The reason I'm talking about these two guys specifically is because, at least where I am, there's a... kind of a divide. You're either a Brian Buffini fan or you're a Tom Ferry fan. I want to talk about the differences in the two. I've been coached by both, not directly right. Tom ferry has coaches that work under him in his company and the same with Brian. I haven't been coached by Brian or Tom specifically, but the coaches that work for their company. I have experienced with both.
Today, I just want to share my experience and why I chose one company over the other and why I continue to get coached by that company after making that move. This video isn't meant to be controversial. It's not meant to bad mouth either of these guys. I believe that in the real estate market, both of these guys have a place in the market. Both of these guys are relevant in the market, but their coaching methods are completely different. Right? Brian Buffini's method, Buffini & Company is very relational approach to real estate. What I mean by that, it's very much kind of an old school way of doing business. Old school in the sense that it's been around for ages and Brian's been teaching the same method of coaching for 20 plus years and that's a relational method.
What I mean by that is you're more or less creating an advocate of your business. You're following up with past clients, with friends, with family members, through a series of calls, notes and pop bys to stay in touch with them. You're doing that because you want to deepen the relationship with those clients and get to know them and what have you. And through that, the theory is that those people will refer you to their friends and family when buying or selling real estate. My experience with, with Tom's company, is a little bit the opposite, right? Tom is a little more trendy, a little bit more up to date on video, on marketing, different types of marketing. He doesn't really have one approach that he takes, like Brian's very relational in his approach. Tom's method is a little more of doing a little bit of everything, doing farming, buying leads, online lead generation, doing videos. I mean, just a series of a lot of different things in order to figure out what your niche is, your specialty is and that's how you create your business.
Now, that method didn't work for me, right, because I don't enjoy door-knocking. I don't enjoy cold calling people, knocking, doing expireds. The reason I don't enjoy those, it's not that I'm scared to do it, it's just that I don't like that when people do that to me, right? I don't like when people show up at my door unannounced. I don't like people calling me unannounced. I felt like when I was doing that, I was kind of going against my inner beliefs and what I believed was right or wrong. Now, keep in mind, I know people that are very successful with Tom and people that are very successful with Brian. There's two methods at work, but I chose the more relational approach.
After being with Tom's company for just over a year, I believe that the coaching, I just didn't feel like I was getting the value out of the coaching with Tom Ferry that I'm currently getting with Brian's company and Buffini & Company. The reason I say that is because with Brian, initially before getting assigned a coach, you actually do what's called a heritage profile. They do a profile on you to figure out what your strengths and your weaknesses are so that they can coach you specifically. At the time, this was six plus years ago, they didn't do that at Tom Ferry. They may do that now, but they didn't do it then. I was just assigned to coach that I didn't really feel like was... We didn't really... What's the right word? We didn't really mesh, so to speak. Whereas my coach at Buffini & Company is a similar personality. He has real estate experience so he can kind of coach me through things that he's been through when we're doing... when we're having similar problems, which I feel is very helpful.
